Musicals, favorite being Fiddler on the Roof
Anything Clint Eastwood, young or old
Good family movies, especially with animals
Like the LOTR movies, dislike the major deviations from the books
I read lots of fiction, love a good mystery, historical novels are my favorite way to learn about a specific place or time. A good story with a believable plot and great characterization is what I look for. I have completely worn out and replaced three paperback sets of Lord of the Rings over 45 years - I joke with my kids that they are lucky they weren't named after elves, hobbits, or dwarves.
Quilting, photography, reading, writing. I love to travel but don't get to much. I walk for pleasure and for health. In the coming year I'd like to finish some quilts, work on my flower beds, and make a small herb and vegetable garden, possibly in containers.
MY BUCKET LIST
I've always said I wanted to travel and visit places I've learned about in favorite novels. In recent years I've been reading a mystery series set in national parks, so... I would like to visit as many of the national parks as possible. So far I've only made it to Big Bend and Carlsbad Caverns, the ones closest to home. It would be awesome if I could visit these places in my own little camper. I want to own a piano and take piano lessons. Several friends have told me, you should get a keyboard - it's the same thing. It's not, and I wouldn't get satisfaction from that. I want to speak Spanish well enough to carry on a conversation.
I'm a mother of four grown daughters and grandmother to one small boy and two baby girls. I thought my life at my age would be all about them, but I was mistaken. Just day-to-day living and the dogs take up most of my time, but I'm feeling a need to make my bucket list and see if there's any of it I can still do. What I like here on BoomerPlace is the exchange with friends through status message and replies, and getting to know folks by reading their blogs. If you wish to "friend" me, please message me, comment on my blogs, or otherwise give me something to let me know who you are and what we have in common. I don't care one way or another about the guestbook - some of my friends seem to enjoy a daily ritual of sending lovely comments - I do read and enjoy them, but I seldom send any.
A beautiful day, a bright starry night. A good conversation. A good meal. Animals and their antics. Awesome scenery, which can be anywhere you look. Roses with a lovely aroma. Birds. Quiet spirituality, honesty, respect for oneself and others.
Loud people who seem to crave being the center of attention. Bigots. Stupid people. People who think they have the right to infringe on my rights. Extreme activists, both left and right, who think it's okay to twist the facts to support their agenda. People who interrupt because they think what they want to say is more important, or simply because they like to do all the talking. I find I don't talk much because of them. Once a very nice, kind, patient and tolerant woman, as I get older, I find I just don't have the time to waste on any of these people.
