Help in repairing a wall?
Posted On 03/08/2007 10:15:18 by wlittle1686
Mary Lou and I live in a manufactured home and, lets say, the previous owner was big on hanging things on the walls. I have no problem with this except in both bathrooms where she used what I will refer to as a double-sided sticky, rubber block. I understand their purpose. . .to keep the picture, mirror or whatever you hung level. My problem is this: how to remove them from the walls without marring the finish. Sounds simple right? Here's the problem: since this is a manufactured home the walls are a cross between the fabric walls you would see in an office cube and drywall or particle board and, just to make it really interesting, the walls in both bathrooms have a wallpaper-type finish on them. Any ideas on how to repair these?

Hi Walter,

Avon's Skin So Soft works great on removing sticky glue residue from just about any surface. A tiny drop and rub w/your finger will kind of roll it up and you can lift it off. It does leave a bit of an oily finish behind, which Dawn dish soap removes w/a breeze. Haven't tried it on your kind of surface thou, but if you are going to repaint anyway, I would wash the surface real good regardless of what you use to remove the glue. Otherwise any residue will bleed thru the paint. Good luck, let me know how it turns out.
Hugs,
Mary

Thanks for some good advice Junie. And, yes, I've also got to fill nail and screw holes where she hung stuff with large diameter screws and nails. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I also use lighter fluid to remove sticky glues, etc. No smoking or excessive heat around, though. It cuts through what other, more expensive, products I've found that don't. You may have to re-paper or paint you walls after all is done. Let us know what the outcome is. I WILL tell Papa HATES sticky tapes, etc. on walls!! He had a house to clean up for our son and that stuff was EVERYWHERE! He told me he hadn't ever better catch me using it on the walls. He's rather deal with nail or screw holes! Wish you the best, Junie

I think I've seen that at the hardware store and, possibly, at Wal-Mart. I will check and report back. Thanks!
