My Dad
Posted On 11/03/2007 14:04:26 by faith
Just wanted to update and thank all of you who have been praying for and inquiring about my Dad. As you know, he started chemotherapy on Monday for advanced prostate cancer at age 86. He did very well and we are hopeful that this will keep him comfortable and functional for a while longer. The treatment is palliative, not curative, but he elected to try it to give him a greater degree of comfort and to allow him to maintain his independence and enjoyment of life. So far, so good. He will be going in to Boston (a 2 hour drive from his home) once every 3 weeks for the IV infusion. The infusion takes an hour, but with the required blood work, visit to the doctor and waiting around, it is an all day affair. I'm so inspired by my Dad and the spirit with which he tackles life. On the way out of Boston last week, right after making the decision to go ahead with the chemo, we were looking at the beautiful blue sky and colorful trees, and Dad suddenly broke into song, "Oh beautiful, for spacious skies...". Then on Tuesday, when I went to check on him the day after the chemo, he greeted me at the door wearing his Red Sox "championship" T-shirt and cap with a big smile on his face. He was watching the Red Sox victory rally on TV. Today I went to bring him groceries and he was not in the apartment. He had gone down to the recreation room in their building to play the piano. So, you can see he is still enjoying life and not letting his problems keep him down. No wonder I love this guy! Thanks again for your prayers and concern. Love, Faith
