I know there are a lot of intelligent people of vast experiences here in Boomer Nation, so I ask for your thoughts and insites;
My 22 year old grandson came home from 22 months in Iraq December was a year ago. We all were so concerned for this bright young man who had never been away from home other than for high school football games and such. He came home unharmed and we are all so thankful.
We now are advised that he goes back in June. His brothers both younger are so upset about this as is him Mom, my daughter.
I am just out of things to say, my Dad was a Marine and going away was just a fact of life and being in a war zone sometimes was involved.
I have advised them of course we're all concerned but bad thing can happen to you on the way to the 7/11. We need to focus on the pride in his choice to serve and protect his country and show him a strong proud homefront confident in his experience. My son was in desert storm and I know that helpless feeling that Mama can not protect that just knaws away at you.
I just hate that my grandsons (12 and 14 ) are so upset and my daughter trying to sooth and comfort them and here I am thousands of miles away. We do talk everyday on our way to work.
So come on Boomers, is there something else I can say to help them?
