MORE BETTER
Posted On 08/28/2008 16:14:44 by katpurrson49

Ah yes, one of the dreaded phrases I see too often in messages from potential suitors who have viewed my profile on one of the online dating sites.  I certainly hope no one who is actually a native-born American would use that phrase.  As an English major, it just makes me want to scream out:  NO! NO! NO!  Having a chat with these guys is a challenge at times.  “More better” is just the tip of the iceberg.

Even if you can get past the murder of the English language, then you have to wade through the stories that sound like they have been mass-produced on an assembly line somewhere in Outer Mongolia!  Here are some of the catch phrases that just make me wanna run for the hills while yelling:  “Danger Wilhemina Robinson!  Danger!”

Sample first contact message:

Hello or Hi followed by such words as Angel, Hunny, Beautiful, etc.

My name is ______ and I was browsing (or looking through) this site and saw your beautiful face smiling at me and I just had to write to you.  I am ___ years old, an engineer (could be electrical, civil, mechanical), and have just one beautiful son/daughter named _____(usually rhymes with Sherry!).  My wife was killed in a car accident ____ years ago (usually from 2-5).  And I am here looking for my soulmate.

Please to contact me at my home email (usually a Yahoo addy) or add me to your Yahoo IM (same ID).

Now, before I became more savvy about Internet dating, I talked to a few of these guys.  It became obvious early on that they were not natural born Americans even though they professed to have one parent who is.  The dead give away that it was a con job would be when they mysteriously had to travel to Africa (be it West, South, North or East!) on business but still kept in contact on IM.  At that point in time, I severed communications.  I will write more about why in another blog.

Please NOTE:  Not all of the men that I have met online fall into this category.  I have met a few genuinely nice guys.  Unfortunately a lot of women do not see through the rhetoric and end up being hurt, or conned out of money and possessions.  That is why I have chosen to write on this subject.  Please be very cautious when you meet someone online.

Thank you for the info SavedByGrace!  I was not aware of that site even though I have done some online research.  Of special interest to me were the photos that they have accumulated ~ and when I have more time I plan to see if I recognize any of the faces!!  Thanks again, ~KK

See the Yahoo group Romance Scams

I learned a great deal from this group! They even have photos many of these people use with the multiple names they go by. Check it out!
