On Our Corner of Paradise
Posted On 07/03/2009 01:41:00 by Junie

We're very tired tonight; worked hard all day into the late evening. We should sleep good tonight that's for sure!

Papa planned on mowing our friend and neighbor's yard after lunch today but he got a call from Terry about a tree. Terry had planned on doing it by himself but it turned out to be a bigger job than he anticipated. So I drove Papa up to the nursing home where the job was.

I thought that since I was already there I'd pop in to see a next door neighbor and friend from when I was child. She will be celebrating her 101st. birthday on the 4th! She was so surprised to see me. I haven't seen her in 2 years. I called her last year on her birthday to let her know I was thinking about her. It's hard to believe she's 101! She doesn't look any older than many 80 year olds we know. We had a very nice visit. The mowing neighbor just mentioned will be 95 on the 28th.

After I left the nursing home I went to the Dollar General to pick up a few things then, stopped in to see another friend at her beauty shop. Visited with her and a couple of her clients for about 20 minutes and came home. Called my brother to let him know I saw our old neighbor.

Back in the days when I was a child all the neighbors helped raise all the children. It is a lot different these days. Some neighbors we don't even know and some we wish we didn't!

Then Papa and Terry came  and we all sat on the deck sipping tea. Terry really like what Papa has been doing and likes all the flowers, etc., too. The fellow that complained about the staticy music came by yesterday, without his ex, and was able to really see what Papa has been doing. He, also, likes it and wishes he had something like that at his home. I could just see Ron out there with his coffee and reading; he loves to read. But his ex would throw a hissy fit or he's have run after her again and wouldn't get the full enjoyment of it.

The ceiling fan went up tonight, as well as, the glider being brought out from the back porch and set up. I haven't had a chance to repair it yet but Papa sat in it for about an hour and a half without any problem. But I do need to get it fixed in case someone else should sit in it; don't want anyone getting hurt, do we?

Boy, I'm sure catching a lot of misspellings! I'm really tired and not seeing all that well.

I got weeds pulled in three small gardens this afternoon and evening. Papa kept after me to keep taking breaks and I finally told him to leave me alone; I was feeling good and I was finally accomplishing something (in between helping him). I feel really proud of myself for all I've done today. If I can work like that early in the morning I'll have most of my weeding done then, it will be off to the north of the house.

I think I finally have talked Papa into going out to the lake to spend time with Travis and his family. They got their camper all set up at the KOA camp today. Our grandchildren are having a lot of fun already but they just can't seem to get away from that TV!

Anyway, there will be a parade Saturday morning in Papa's hometown of Whiting (about 8 miles from here) then it will be off to see Mom for a few before going out to the lake. I believe we'll have fun and Papa will too if he'll just let himself. He doesn't know what it's like to just wind down and not be working at something.

Oh, I need to follow Papa and Pepper Dog and go to bed. I'm pooped!

We hope y'all have a peaceful night and a very good Friday!

Much Love, Junie and Papa Allen
