Hot Time in the Old Town that night!
What is your most memorable concert? Back "then" I think The Establishment didn't know what us youngins were capable of. Book a few bands, a BIG place to gather and 50 security officers to control the crowd an we'll make big bucks. Ha! My husband and I went to a concert at the Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh with a few friends (about 1974), Arrowsmith, Peter Frampton and ZZ Top. The field was packed. Through the first part of the concert, we moved around trying to get up closer to the stage. People were smokin pot, shooting up and passing out all around the place. Heck, though I can't recall for sure, we probably stopped to smoke a doobie or two ourselves. Getting up close to the stage was futile, so we decided to take a seat in the stands. We just got seated, looked down at the field, and the WHOLE right half of the field, where we just came from, broke out into a fight...all at once! It was amazing, pushing, punching, hair pulling...they're down, they're up, they're at it again. How do you stop this? You don't, you just let it play out and let the ambulances carry the injured away. The crowd couldn't get a grip. Though the major fighting ceased, little squirmishes dotted the field throughout the concert. We're about 4 hrs. into the concert by now, still in the stands and more interested in the drama on the field than ZZ Top, when someone above us in the stands starts shooting off fireworks...into the crowd !!! One landed on a girl standing three people away from me, some kind of fireball thing, it lodged on her shoulder on top of her beautiful, long, wavy blonde hair and melted a huge chunk of it off. Luckily, she was not seriously injured, nor was anyone else as we could see, but that was the it !! we bolted for our car. Three GREAT bands...we could have had such a great time...what were we (the crowd) thinking??
