Diabetes in women
I should read all the replies on this page but -- forgive me please for I'm short on time and I'll forget to say what I'm thinking.

I see mostly women asking questions on this most serious subject. My wife had diabetes so that is how I'm familiar. As I write this there are tears in my eyes because she did all the right things, maintained her diet, checked her sugar daily, but this bastard disease still took her, from me.

My wife died last year of Pancreatic Cancer. It wasn't the cancer but the treatment for the cancer that took her life. It was sad but she passed in peace and with relative comfort. She was also allergic to almost all pain medication. That is why I said what I did.

She had a heart attack about 5 years before. They did triple by-pass surgery and she came out of it fine.

The point I want to bring out is the symptoms. She had a back ache not chest pains. She had me take her to the hospital at 2 in the morning and they could not find a reason for her backache. The EKG was good and she has a very tiny elevation in her blood test. Not what is normally considered, "a sign." I told her if she had me take her to the emergency room for the flu like symptoms she was displaying I would be upset. After 18 hours they decided to admit her and the following morning did an Angiogram revealing the blockage. She had little pain just a feeling she wasn't right.

The Cancer was undetected also. I guess if I can give you a single piece of advice please, please keep in close touch with you body. It will give you very subtle signs. Have the doctor do an xray of the pancreas to be sure nothing is there. Life expectancy after the massive surgery and treatment isn't that great.

No one will tell you these things. "There is always hope" is there cry. They don't have the condition and the cost is unbelievable. One Chemo treatment runs in the neighborhood of $3000. Thank God we had insurance. Finding a good doctor is even more important.

If your doctor does not consider your concerns important then ask for a referral to a specialist. Life is not a dress rehearsal.

Diabetes is a serious, very serious condition and stress and emotions play heavily in your success with it.

You may have heard all this before but I'm speaking from first hand experience as the husband of a diabetic woman who lost her battle.

Thank you for you time

diabetes in women
thank you so much for your message about your wife's battle with diabetes and its a very hard disease to deal with the rest of your life once you get it. my son came down with it at age 12 years old and hes now 25 years old and doing ok with it and has gained weight lately although it could be diet mostly eating out instead of home alot ,but hes tests and takes his shots and exercises when he can do it apart from work and he has type 1. my hubby and i both have type 2 now and we test and take metformin and diet and exercies mostly housework tho and i do all of my own housework too. its the gaining weight i want to control more but to eat so less of food is not the right diet and alot of the other pills i wont take for it so its hard to do with feeding two others in the house as well. i do have a doctor that doesnt see the dieease the right way and not sure if we have to get xrays for it just yet. and yes i have alot of backache for alot of resons not just diabetes but it as well as arthritis poor back muscles and the pancreas will hurt in the front and the back most of the time. it is all expensive all the meds and doc visits and tests and xrays and treatments surgeries too yet there seems to no cure as yet so the doctors say it, but we have the disease and thats life! just thank god and glad hes there when its time to go with or wirhtout this disease! women and men can get it and its a killer of one or many on this planet. i wish i could be happier about it but im not that much but just dealing with it day by day seems to be the best thing and pray and thank god alot of it too. take care of yourself and other people and bless you all. lynsee cain and family
