Hairspray
It's 1962 in Baltimore and the local television station produces a teen "dance" show (think Bandstand) everyday right after school.

The local "fat girl" and her slim best friend tune in everyday to
"rock out" to the new tunes.

"fat girls" mom "fat woman" played to near hysteria by John Travolta is not so keen on all this "rock n roll". That is until
her sweet little daughter gets a chance to show her stuff on TV.

The dance sequences in this movie will never compare to anything
by Gene Kelly, Ann Miller and the great Fred Astaire OK? That said, This is a funny movie with a few twists and some cameo acting and odd ball characters. Michelle Pfeiffer as a Televison Station manager? When she goes all out to seduce a man that cannot be turned away from the wife he adores, you realize a lot of people in Hollywood that have been typecast as "sexy" or "dramatic" actors have comic timing and just goofy fun when you let them.
This movie "IS" Goofy fun.

I saw this in the theater and when Christopher Walken sings a love song to and dances with his wife (Travolta) the laughing out loud in he theater became part of the experience for me. It was good to connect with a bunch of strangers in the dark......with my clothes on for a change..(drum beat)....but seriously folks I promise you this....I walked into that theater (was dragged actually) just knowing I was going to HATE Travolta and was in no mood for a "sixties retro movie" in 6 minutes I was in another world....the opening song "Good Morning Baltimore" had me hooked and ready for the next scene.

Rated One to Five stars...
