I started learning to play pool on a snooker table when I was 17. My parents moved into a mobile home park and all the men that played taught me. Eventually I got so good at it that I usually won and they stopped playing with me.
We played for money..nickels and dimes sort of thing. I then started going to pool halls. Oh the shame on that, in those days it was frowned on for a woman to go into a pool hall and actually play anyway I got quite good at it on a regular table.
I haven't played in years now. Lost interest in it when I discovered better sports..ooops, sorry just couldn't resist.
