Fruit Cake
I know that this time of year is famous for all the "fruit cake" jokes and after trying a few I agree that they are well deserved. But one of my most cherished memories is being old enough to be included with "the women folk" when the holiday cooking would start. I think I was about seven years old when I was given a pair of scissors and the honor of helping cut up the candied fruit while my aunts would shell pecans and assemble the rest of the ingredients. The warmth and the smell of my mom's kitchen is something I will never forget. I remember feeling safe and loved and all "grown-up" as I sat and listened to all of them share their memories of Christmas's before. Happy Holidays to all and please take time to "make" a memory with someone you love.
