Hi, Sue! Thanks so much for your post and welcome to this group. (We are glad to have you in Boomer!!) Everyone in here is very caring and supportive.

No, you don't sound "crazy" at all about naming the depression, writing to it and also and using your imagination to vent at it. That sounds like a great idea!

Btw, I also take Paxil for depression, too.

Jess

Hello all, I am glad I found this group here. Depression has been a part of my life for many years.. It was very mild in the early years, in fact neither I nor anyone else knew i was depressed,, I was just kind of quiet.. It became much worse when I went into menopause.. then found out I was, Hypo-thyroid. The meds for the Hypo-=thyroid have held as well as Paxil. And I believe most of my depression is a result of my thyroid condition...
I like to write poetry, and I was very depressed one day and wrote a poem to my depression, giving it a name. Once I named it, it somewhow has made it easier for me to cope with it and to fight it off when it first begins. I have put a face to it, so my enemy has has personality and a self created face and body. I can then imagine in my mind an actual character who I throw things at, cuss at, and vent anger at.. now this may seem crazy but I know it helps me I am not sure why, but it makes me feel better..
I look forward to giving support and getting support from all of you.. Hugs Sue

Hello Sue
Depression has been part of my life for a *long* time too. I've been going to therapists since I was 7. They didn't start medicating me until I was 16 or 17. That was off and on at first, eventually becoming constant.

I'm glad Paxil works for you and Mimi. It only works for 33% of the people they try it on. When they tried it on me, all it did was intensify my shaking.

IMHO, I much prefer Art Bell or Ian Punitt to George Noory. I know it's off topic, but when Noory started, he always sounded like he was being snide and sarcastic. He's gotten a lot better, but I still prefer the other two.
