Bipolar Disorder
I am called schizo-affective bipolar. I went to peer spport last week and one of the consumers gave a talk on Perseverance. It was a great talk and he told abot famous people who persevered and some of them had depression and others of them were bipolar. The one who sticks in my mind is Abraham Lincoln. They said he was bipolar and had to have someone in his room with him at all times or he would try and commit suicide. Yes, I am back in Peer Sport. It s a program that is only in a few states. But is really helping people to learn abot topics that help them in every day life. It includes alot about psych problems and every day problems. Today the topic was on problem solving. It s a very important thing to use in facing everyday life. I am not sure if I want to stay in this group or go to another where I can teach more. But the group I am attending now has a lot more trips to Saint Simons and more activities of interest. Plus it's a place where I feel close to 2 of the group leaders. They took me to St/ Simmons once and the one was my roomate and the other was working at phoenix house where I lived for about 5 and a half years. One time when I was either in one of my highs from drinking too much eggnog [I'm a diabetic}. Or because I was on a natural high [from my bipolar]. Or what my husband thought I was- drunk. At any rate I was in a fantastic mood. He told our friends I was drunk and one of our friends told me I had better not get drunk again. Why did he think I was drunk? I had drunk 3/4 of a 1/2 gallon eggnog that said it was nonalcoholic but also said it was Southern Comfort Eggnogg. All in all I'm feeling pretty good. My blood sugar is normal so I suspect I am on a high from bipolar. I know I'm not drunk. You probably wonder what the schizo stands for. It does sometimes mean you have schizoaffective disorder. But it also means that when I am admitted as a psych patient I usually only stay for a week. The last time I went in I went in because I refused to take my insulin. Basically I did not want to take my insulin anymore. Mary Lou GOD BLESS anyone who has this condition. --------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for sharing this very interesting post with us. Whatever you do, DO NOT QUIT YOUR INSULIN SHOTS unless a doctor tells you to. Your life depends on it. Whenever you are feeling low come to this site and talk it out. We are all good listeners. Hugs, Linda
