Cabbage Rolls (Tried and true 40+yrs)
Cabbage Rolls

1 lb hamburger
1 lb bulk Italian sausage
1 cup uncooked rice
1 egg
salt & pepper

Mix beef, sausge, salt, pepper and egg. Add rice and mix

As many cabbage leaves as you want. I used about 15. It was a med. head of cabbage. I steam the whole head in a pasta cooker and then keep them in warm water to keep pliable.

Sauce-Make first

2 tbs butter
1 tsp parsley
1 cup onion,chopped
1 can tomato soup
1 cup hot and spicy V-8 juice
1 large can tomato juice
1 can tomato soup
3 tsp lemon juice
salt & pepper to taste
1/4 tsp garlic powder
2 stalks celery
1 tsp sugar
In a large dutch oven, melt butter and saute onion, celery until translucent. Add soup and water and stir to blend. Add remaining ingredients and simmer 10 minutes.

Place 1 heaping tbs of meat mixture in leaf and roll up, using toothpicks if necessary. Place rolls in large roaster (Iused my 12 quart Nesco) Pour sauce over all and cook two hours. With any remaining meat, make into meat balls and add to cooker. We love the meatballs with the cabbage and sauce. This makes a lot so we freeze them. They are even better after they're frozen.

I use this same recipe for stuffed peppers. Equally as good.
