Ticks
a friend asked the question what about ticks. Is there any home remedies to keep this demon of the insect world away! To my knowledge there is no home remedy that is worth talking about. Most of my investigations are in MD, VA and further south so doing it in the warm months bring on lots of really scary stuff and none of it is of the paranormal nature. Mosquitos, spiders, fleas, ticks, snakes, and some of those Fly species that bite like hell. Not to mention ground hornets, and bees, "oh" and Chiggers God help me don't forget these nasty itchy insects or mites! Anyway, Do more investigating in the cold months, or try this one is not natural but so far seems to be quite harmless (sure it is), and the other is from natural ingredients. Duranon, active ingredient Permethin. Use this on your outer clothing only, spray it on let it dry it is odorless when dry. The claims are that it puts a protective barrier on your clothes for up to 2 weeks even after being washed. Put it on your shirts, pants, socks, and shoes, and hats if you wear any, outside only! This is said to repel Ticks, Chiggers, and mosquitos. For your skin not covered by clothing, try Buzz Away Extreme. In case you are allergic to anything here is the ingredient list: Soybean Oil, Geranium Oil, Castor Oil, Purified Water, Coconut Oil, Glycerin, Citric Acid, Lecithin, Sodium Bicarbonate, Benzoic Acid. In a blend of Essential Oils of Wintergreen, Citronella, Cedarwood, Peppermint, and Lemongrass. (Patented base HOMS). This stuff is said to last 8 hours but excessive sweating might shorten the life of it. As Far as snakes and bees or hornets, be cautious where you put you feet, respecting any animals space it always a good thing. So many of us think that killing a bee ends the problem, WRONG! Ever hear of Pheromones, many bees and hornets secrete help I am in danger pheromones, and some of the nastier species, will come a running, Killer bees, Japanese Hornets, and others. So dead bee doesn't mean it is safe to go back in the water! Steve
