THE ADA...WHAT DOES IT COVER?

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a comprehensive civil rights law for people with disabilities. The Department of Justice enforces the ADA's requirements in three areas --
Title I: Employment practices by units of State and local government
Title II: Programs, services, and activities of State and local government
Title III: Public accommodations and commercial facilities

I TOOK THIS FROM THE ADA WEBSITE..MOST COMPLAINTS ARE MADE TO THE EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY COMMISSION(EEOC). THIS WEB SITE GIVES AN 800 NUMBER TO CALL IF YOU WANT INFORMATION ON WHAT THE ADA COVERS AND HOW, UNDER EACH TITLE.THEY HAVE A 31 PAGE BOOKLET THAT IS AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC WHICH GIVES AN OVERVIEW OF EXACTLY WHAT IS COVERED UNDER THE ADA. THAT NUMBER IS 1-800-514-0301.

When a complaint is made it goes to the Department of Justice and they have to attempt to settle it through negotiations. If that fails a law suit is filed by the Dept of Justice in Federal Court.Before it gets into court, many cases are resolved by a Consent Decree,which is as binding as a court decision. A Consent Decree is just an agreement between the two parties to settling it it out of court.
