How does being overweight cause my problem??
Bear, you mentioned loosing weight would make it so you would or might not need the C-pap machine. For me I do not think that would make any difference since I think but can't say for sure I have had the breathing problem since the seventies. And then I was in my 20's and not overweight like I am now. Plus having my tongue close over my throat is what causes my problem. I do not understand how being overweight would be affected by that. Basically because it is when I am on my back and very relaxed that I have a problem with stopping breathing. It does wake me up and when it wakes me up in the morning or after I have taken a nap l feel chest pain and I find myself gasping for air. How that would be affected if I was to loose some weight I do not know. Please explain. LOVE, Mary Lou

According to my doctor, when you are over weight, you have a better chance of having problems breathing while you sleep just like when you walk up stairs or strain. That doesn't mean that is a cure for everyone or that it effects everyone. But in my case, and my brother's, it was an issue. I guess if you are concerned, you may want to talk with your doctor.

i dont know much about the c pap but one of my g/f's have to use it and oxygen when she goes to bed but then she is over weight and she has cancer also and other medical problems and now my son had to do that sleep test and they told him he needs it now and he will be the first in my family to have to have it . i guess i had better read up on it and learn more about it before i really speak out on the subject
its getting to be a natural thing to have to have now from what i have heard about it .

Sassy andy, I have been reading up on Sleep Apnea and had the test and now have the C-pap machine. One of my biggest problems is that my husband goes on trips all the time. He just left yesterday again. While he is away I can't use the C-pap machine. WHY?? Because he is the one who puts it on me and fastens the places that need to be fastened. The sleep apnea people did call todayand asked me if I have any problems with the machine. I guess I will need to call the lady back and get information or have her come and show me how to put the C-pap on my face. From what I have read about it, alot of men have a problem with it right now. Alot of him have men snore. They told me my tongue falls over my esophagus And I have to have some results fily soon, becausase they have to explain to Love, Meriand there favwere they admitted to us onorite plasses

Changes due to using the C-pap machine
Sassy Sandy, I am not in love with having that machine and a mask on every night BUT I can think and accomplish more rhings and NOT feel as tired as I used to. Plus my mind is working in a good fashion. Like it did when I was working in surgery trying to think faster than the Doctor. To figure out what he would need for the surgery as I was going to the hospital because we were having emergency surgery. And I was the one who was assisting the surgeon and handing him the tools. I switch topics like I used to do. I could actually be planning for more than one topic at a time. Sometimes as many as 3 or 4 problems solving each of them successfully. For a long time now I have been getting bogged down with just 1 project. Right now it is good because I have so many things I need to get done and so little time. LOVE, Mary Lou
