Getting Started

One of the best things about retiring at 55 is having more time to take care of my health - before problems start.  Let's face it, when you're working full-time, you often go around sleep-deprived and stressed, eat out too often (restaurants feed you way too much food) and are too tired to exercise.  Since I retired, I've been going to the gym 3 times a week, sleep a lot better, and eat a lot healthier.  As a result, I've lost six pounds without really "dieting" and feel great.  I'd love to hear from others who have adopted fitness programs - or would like to - and swap tips and stories.

Thanks for starting this topic.  Although I haven't retired yet, there is still time in my day for fitness...I feel the important thing is to find what works for you...For me if I don't exercise first thing in the morning, it is much harder to do when I get home from work...usually I'll find an excuse...too busy...too many chores to do...too tired.  But you are right, exercise does make you feel better, sleep better and look better.  Staying motivated is the important thing.  Thanks again Grasshopper, perhaps we can motivate each other.

Finding Time

When I was still working, I walked every day on my lunch hour.  It wasn't much exercise, I admit, but at least I kept it up consistently, and it was great stress release!  For a time, I also took up swing dancing and between weekend classes and a couple nights a week of free dancing, boy is that a work-out.  That kind of went out the window when I got married, though!
