Sometimes they just don't speak clearly enough. .
Several years back our 911 center received a call from a caller who said "fight fight fight" (or so they thought) and hung up. Going on the info that she had, the operator dispatched the beat car and a back-up on a Signal 29 (fight) with caller hang-up. About 30 seconds later the beat car came on and said "Radio. . .this won't be a fight call. . .I've got a fully-involved structure fire. . .start the fire department." See what I mean about sometimes they just don't speak clearly enough?

Oh, they surely don't. I hope the house didn't burn down. Had a call from a man with a southern accent who kept referring to "gays". I could NOT figure out what the heck he was talking about until I realized he was saying "gas".

And it's not just the civilians. . .
. . .sometimes the police officers and firefighters aren't clear on what they have. I remember in the mid 90's we had a small plane make an emergency landing along Main Street in East Point. The pilot did a beautiful job of landing the plane but ran into trouble as he taxied after touching down. His wing clipped a utility pole rupturing his fuel tank and starting a fire. One of our police cruisers was approaching from the north and reported "a (car) accident with the vehicle on fire." It wasn't until he got closer that he realized what he thought was a "vehicle" was an airplane.
