Exercising

Working out was something that I used to do on a regular basis. No matter what! However, I hurt my back, (nothing to do with the workouts), and I had to stop. We won't into why I stopped working out... so much happened, but now I want to start again. It's been 10 years, and I've tried several things, but my back is bothered by them.
So, I'm going to do things very slowly. The treadmill doesn't hurt, and it's fun as long as I have cheerful music playing, it can be fun singing along. The Elliptical is good too, I use music for it as well. Now for arms and stuff... that's where problems come.
I think I found the solution: It will take time to get to this phase. LOL

Right now, I'm at this phase: Ha ha ha

Starting Slow

I agree, it's better to ease into it and keep in enjoyable and fun.  I love the elliptical also, especially with the music playing, it makes the time go faster.  Walking is low-impact and great for stress release also, if you can find a pleasant place to take a walk.  Before I joined a gym I was working out at home with very light hand weights for my arms, using an OLD book I have by Joyce Vedral called "Definition." Even though it doesn't seem like a lot of weight, it is still very good for your bones and muscle tone.

Laurisa,
Have you tried beginners yoga for you back issues?  I am no expert but it has helpled me with a few problems I have had.
Stretching is very important before and after any exercise, but I am sure you know that.  The old bones and joints aren't what they used to be.   My arms are a real problem for me.  I know I need to do some weights for toning.  My treadmill is not working,  I have been waiting for the part to come in, its been 5 weeks now.  I have used my friends ellipitical a few times and you really get a good workout from that, but coordination is not one of my strong points.
