Birmingham's Hot Spot

We had a place here in Birmingham that was the very same and that is where I hooked up with my husband Steve for the first time, 1969! For here it was Shoney's.......and yes, we would fall out laughing at their sign, Home of the Big Boy!!!!!!!!

The Boar n' Castle

Awwww, The Boar n' Castle! This was the hottest place in town. Everyone flocked there on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. This place would bring your food right out to your car. They had the best castle burgers with castle sauce you would ever want to put into your mouth! The Boar n' Castle had two sides. One side was where everyone would go just to socialize, meet someone new, or hear who was leaving soon for Viet Nam. The other side was called the dark side. This side was for the lovers who would park and make out. You would turn into The Boar n' Castle on the dark side. It had less lighting than the other side, that's why it was called the dark side. You would drive through the dark side and circle around to the other side, check to see who was there,some would park if you were lucky enough to find a space. Most had to go back out on the street and try again. The traffic was always backed up for miles! I met my first love there and my second! Did I ever go to the dark side? You betcha!

We had a Shoney's too. I still remember that big boy sign... lol!
