This is the story of the Marquis de Sade after he was incarcerated in an insane asylum. This is how he continued to write, and secretly would sneak his stories out of the asylum for publication. The movie uses a great deal of symbolism to express how his stories and he would be silenced.
For me, Quills is a great movie about this man, whom I consider to have been a very interesting, and who would not give up his fight against those that tried to stop him from writing his "fascinating" fiction. It's not a movie for everyone, and certainly not for the kids.
