THE INDISPENSABLE MAN

Sometime when you are feeling important
Sometime when your ego’s in bloom
Sometime when you take it for granted
You’re the best qualified in the room

Sometime when you feel that your going
Would leave an unfillable hole
Just follow this simple instruction
And see how it humbles your soul

Take a bucket and fill it with water
Dip your hand in it up to the wrist
Pull it out and the hole that’s remaining
Is the measure of how you’ll be missed

You may splash all you like when you enter
You may stir up the water galore
But stop, and you’ll find in a moment
That it looks quite the same as before

The moral of this little example
Is to do the best that you can
Be proud of yourself but remember
There is NO indispensable man

I will read anything at anytime.

I WOULD NOT TELL YOU

If I knew the essence of love
I would not tell you
You’d redefine it
Repackage it
Paint it pink
Sell it at an obscene profit
Then love would be trite and tainted

If I knew the birthplace of dreams
I would not tell you
You’d predict them
Dissect them
Paint them purple
Genetically modify them
Then dreams would crash to the ground

If I knew the germination of hope
I would not tell you
You’d analyse it
Apply statistics
Paint it blue
Compute a standard deviation
Then hope would wither away

If I knew the conception of poetry
I would not tell you
You’d regiment it
Destroy its flight
Paint it grey
Stack it in boxes
Then poems would never inspire

If I knew the essence of love
The birthplace of dreams
The germination of hope
The conception of poetry
I would not tell you
You’d destroy their beauty
Then your soul would die.

What most people need to learn in life is how to
love people and use things instead of using
people

I TRY TO TAKE ONE DAY AT A TIME, BUT SOMETIMES SEVERAL DAYS ATTACK ME ALL AT ONCE

LIFE IS LIKE A COIN. YOU CAN SPEND IT ANY WAY YOU WANT BUT YOU CAN SPEND IT ONLY ONCE.

REMEMBER - THERE IS ONLY ONE CHANCE TO MAKE A FIRST IMPRESSION

SOMETIMES THE HEART SEES WHAT IS INVISIBLE TO THE EYE

MAY A WARM BREEZE CROSS THE IRISH SEA TO BRING YOU PEACE AND JOY AND MAY THE SUN BRING YOU WARMTH AND COMFORT WHEREVER YOU MAY BE.

EVERYONE HAS SOMETHING TO GIVE AND HAS SOMETHING TO BE THANKFUL FOR

I hold a Doctorate in life experience.
Been there, done that, got the T-shirt,
and had them ripped of my back a number
of times. Such is life. I have been in
the Navy; The British Army
(Parachute Regiment); SAS Regiment
The Rhodesian Army (anyone remember
Rhodesia?)! I lived in Africa for many
years including three years at the
Victoria Falls, when it was but a
small village. I now live back where
I was born - The Isle of Man -
(Which is in the middle of the Irish Sea)
which makes me a Manxman. I was widowed
in 2006 by the dreaded breast cancer.
I am a poet - of kinds - and otherwise
life goes on. I welcome friends from any
Country and/or culture. .

THE WARRIOR

I am a warrior
whose duty is to serve
my country and my people
in the cause of liberty
I have tasted the very evil of war
smelt the stench of death
seen the cruelty that man
can wreak upon women and children
with all humanity cast aside
I have looked closely into the eyes
of my enemy
and seen his silent plea for mercy
but I am a warrior
waiting for the kill
I have held a dying comrade
closely in my arms
said unspoken prayers together
as his grip tightens on my hand
and watched as his eyes glazed over
and flicker into darkness
I have wiped my blood with
that of others
on my stained and torn clothing
and looked in awe at my hands
red, as a deep sunset of life
blotted dry by the burning sun
I have sought sanctuary
wherein a man can rest safely
and not be found by a searching bullet
I have been in that grey place
trembling, bleeding, praying,
but knowing that I shall not die
for I have been chosen
to carry the dark cold memories
of mans mad destructive passion
until deaths misty mantle
allows me to join
the stark young men
who never got to celebrate
their coming of age
whose carefree years were pickpocketed
from their lives
I will hold and cherish
their memories and wait patiently
to experience deaths singular finality
and join them on the day of judgement.

At the going down of the sun
And the rising of the dawn
We shall remember them

For those who serve and have served
and to all the families who have been
affected by the madness of war.

Family isn't always blood.

It's the people in your life who want you in theirs.

The ones who accept you for who you are.

The ones who would do anything to see you smile,

and who love you no matter what.
