I remember
I remember:
They taught phone etiquette at school because kids needed to know how to properly answer the phone and what to do. They had fake phones to practice with. But even after the session, my dad said phones are for business and we shouldn't be tying up the party line just talking to friends. What if an important call couldn't get through?
I walked home from school at age 6 with a bunch of friends every day and we stopped at the local candy store and nobody wondered why we were so late.
My mom would take us to the dime store so she could pick up thread, needles and such. She would let us pick out our own penny candy that were displayed in large glass cases. We each got our own little brown paper bag.
At my cousins house, all of us kids would walk a mile and 1/2 to the swimming hole that had a rope swing to jump out to the deep middle of the creek. No adults went with us.
I remember watching Lassie, and Romper Room (who do i see in my magic mirror...i see Tommy and Mary and....)
The good old days!!

I remember ....

My Three Sons

Family Affair

Courtship Of Eddie's Father

Petticoat Junction

Real McCoys

Gomer Pyle USMC

Lassie

Flipper

Gilligan's Island

Shock Theater

American Bandstand

Dark Shadows

Flying Nun

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir

Green Acres

I Love Lucy

I remember ....

Riding my bike and not having to worry about being hit by a car.

Playing outside at all hours of the night and not being afraid.

Candy that cost a penny

Being able to leave the windows and doors open and unlocked.

Families watching after each other's children.

Playing at the playground and not having to worry about perverts.

You didn't have to worry about kids slipping some drug in your drink when you went to parties.

School Lunches was worth what you had to pay for them. And they gave you more than enough to eat.

Milk, Bread and Gas didn't take your whole paycheck.

You could go to McDonalds as a family and eat for under $10.

Going to the movies, buying popcorn, a drink and some candy was under $5.

Comic Books were 25 cents. Loved The Archies ... Mad Magazine ... Tiger Beat ... 16 ....

I remember when everyone wore "Daisy Dukes" and looked good in them.

Tie Dye, Bell Bottoms, Halters, Mood Rings, Peace Sign Necklaces, Vests w/Fringe, Converse Tennis Shoes, Platform Shoes ... were all the rage and wasn't expensive to buy.

You wanted to be like Marica/Greg Brady, Bobby Sherman, David Cassidy, Ginger, Marlo Thomas ....

Your family was like the Cleavers, Bradys, Patridges, Andy and Aunt Bee ....

Wow ... I could go on and on with this! LOL!

It was all good. And a kid could be a kid ...

I remember what i call the good ole days when you stayed outside playing till after dark and then you ran around catching lighting bugs , and june beetles , i remember you could sleep on your porch and not worry about anyone bothering you, you left your doors unlocked.

i remember watching when i was in the house the old shows like I love Lucy, jack benny, dinah shore, melton beryle , sid caesar, lassie, we got our first tv in 1952 and before that we would sit and listen to the radio .

later as i got older i remeember the sock hops , roller skating at the rink, carhops where they came out on roller skates, juke boxes that sat in each booth for your enjoyment, wear poodle skirts with all the starched slips under them, the boys wearing greaed slicked back hair and trying to look cool, going to drives ins ,These times seem so much simpler and yet left us with great memories to pass on to our children

Then and Now
We've come a long way since we were all children and teens. What are some things you remember from when you were young?

Do you remember:

Howdy Doodie?
Sock Hops?
Drive-in movies?
The Mickey Mouse Club?
Car Hops?
When a loaf of bread was 25 cents?

Tell us your memories...

All of you bring back a lot of memories for me. Things really were so much simpler then and most kids had very little which is why we learned appreciation. Something kids today don't seem to have. I think we were better off before they invented tv. Because you can always keep busy doing something while you listen to the radio. You're not stuck in one spot. That's why I carry my mp3 player and listen to podcasts while I work. I hate sitting in one spot for any length of time. It's just not natural. I grew up with all of you. We were busy from sunup to sundown and beyond as you say. Catching lightening bugs and playing tag. Yap folks, things were much better before all this materialism took over and left everyone brain dead and lazy.
