...is my master bath. Being a muralist, I'm quick to subject a wall in some quiet corner of my home for muraling. My idea is to make the room regal. Here's some history of the room...
It started out with this TEAL CARPET attached to the side of the giant brown tub! There was green linoleum on the floor.
The first thing we did was remove the carpet and linoleum and unify the space with the same 12" tile that goes all through the home...and painted the walls a pretty buttercream that's also all through the home.
Next, I got some jars of gold gel glaze and rubbed that all over the walls. I didn't know what I was gonna do, but I knew I had to do something to help those brown fixtures 'belong' with the space since they're real 80's...but very nice and 'staying'.
Next, I got the idea for a mural on the ceiling....and also for some luxurious features like extra long spa towel bars running along both walls that surround the tub (really they're handicap bars, and since I have a really bad back, they'll be welcome features!). Also, I decided that I wanted huge, luxurious, white towels. No...bath sheets! Giant blankets of terry really, and textured hotel-quality washclothes. Here's a rough sketch of the idea back when I was thinking of only one towel bar..:
Well, all fine and dandy...except for the part of getting up there to that ceiling. So...while I procrastinated about that, I decided to paint some murals on the walls...which I could reach! (See how I am?). So...I created 3 giant arches....one on each of the walls minus the mirror/sink wall. Here's a sketch to show the general idea...plus also showing the two towel bars I will have. Ignore the words on the photo..they're old! Since that time, I have painted the arches robin's egg blue for the backdrop....sky if you will...to whatever I'm inspired to paint in them. The problem now is WHAT to paint! I've purchased a little chandelier to hang directly over the tub for candlelit bathing. I'll have bowls of lavendar petals and such...and a plush, very special rug to step out onto. I'm thinking of something to surround the mirror with, too, and I'll be handpainting the cabinets decoratively...in some way.
