Juno(Ellen Page) a 16 year old high school teen suddenly faced with a unexpected pregnancy. That too with with a guy whom she does not consider to be her boyfriend. Her first reaction is to see if it can be made to away like a bad dream. But she is pragmatic enough to realize that she needs to take control of the situation. So she enlists the help of her Best Friend Leah (Olivia Thirlby). She considers Woman's Help center for what she calls "Speedy Abortion". But her friend Su-Chin reminds her just outside the clinic that the fetus probably has fingernails by now. That changes her mind immediately. Together she & Leah find out a Yuppi Couple Mark & Vanessa Loring that are desperate for a child. They find this through Penny Saver ad!
Facing her parents is a different story all together. Her Dad Mac Macguff (J.K. Simmons) & her Step mom Bren Macguff (Allison Janney) react similarly. Their first though is that she may have got into Drugs or DWI. Like her they are pragmatic. They decide to help her through the whole 9 month Pregnancy. Her Dad meets up with the Lorings' Attorney to draw up a Consent form. Although the Lorings are willing for an Open adoption, Juno is set for a Close Adoption. Hence starts the Ball Rolling.
Through the pregnancy Juno starts to realize Family values and Nice things in her imperfect family. Her dad is a AC&Plumbing contractor whose first wife & Juno's mom left him and went to arizona.The Step mom works in a Nail Salon but is strongly supporting her step daughter. On the other hand, the Lorings who look too perfect from the outside, have fissures within. Mark is unhappy that his wife does not consider him to contribute to the income since he works from home. He is a Composer for Commercials whose love for 80's Music & Slasher movies is shared by Juno. He also realizes that he is not ready for a child yet. Vanessa although desperately wanting to be a mom is reserved since she's been bitten by Cold feet developed in a prior adoption attempt. She's working hard to make up for the period she is going to spend with the baby. She's also not willing to throw a baby shower for the fear that Juno might develop cold feet & back off.
There's strong performance by all the main characters. Especially by Page in portraying a flamboyant yet scared teen. Michael Cera shows perfectly a confused guy whose first reaction is WTF ? Both her parents are aptly portrayed and come off impressively. Jason Bateman & Jennifer Garner act as if they are the real life yuppi couple. Its a natural fit. All in all its a nice feel good Family entertainer.
