Sweet!!! I knew there was someone else out there!! What do you ride? I see you're in Florida, I'm up here in Connecticut, I run a 2005 Suzuki V-Strom DL 1000. Good bike for touring and back road play. I've been riding for about a year now, got back on it after a long abscense. Just got back from LA where I rented a Heritage Classic Softail....good bike but I missed the V-Strom.

Great! We're up to three! Welcome MadJack! Tough years to be in the Marines! I salute you and yours!!

The tour of Southern LA was good once I got out of the valley. I have never seen so many people going absolutely nowhere in my life. I lived in NYC for a bunch of years and I used to think that was bad traffic. Not hardly!!! It was abusive. I did find out what lane splitting is all about. Within reason it's not a bad thing, once the speed gets up above 15 or so I would back off of it. We went up to Santa Barbara on the PCH then cut up into the hills back towards Van Nyes. Routes 150, 196, and 126. Great scenery all the way around.

It wasn't that expensive. Mine was $130 a day and the Sportster was $75. After riding the Sportster for a couple of miles I was glad to get off of it. I'm also glad I didn't buy one. It's an abusive machine compared to the softail. That thing was smooth as silk. I'm 6'3" and weigh about 230. When I rode the Sportster I felt like I was on a mini-bike. I'm all talk of course, not willing to pop the nut for a $20K bike!!!

I like my V-Strom. It has enough kick to get me around, I'm not all hunched over on it, and it was under $10K. I've always thought if I spend over $15K on something with a motor I'm going to want two more wheels.

Triumph MadJack, very nice! What do you run now? How did it run for you when you were out and about. As I recall you really had to keep up the maint. on the earlier Triumphs or you would be doing a bunch of walking.

I hope you both have a great holiday weekend! I think we're riding the bikes up to the cape. No definete plans, no place to stay, figure we might just fill the saddle bags and go....ok, maybe a tent!!

...and I
I just spent two weekends on a Harley.... sweet rides....

I had two bikes in the 80s... a Honda 350 (sorry)..way to big for a petite lady... feet didn't reach the ground... that I laid down and broke my armpit.... yes the whole hospital came to laugh and point at my x-rays.... said they were trying to figure out how to cast it.... my HEAD was in the way.... so they strapped my arm to my chest... then a Honda 250 Nighthawk... a sweet little bike... fit me well, but found out I couldn't strap an infant seat on it.....

Content to be a backrest now....

Ok, looks like the group is expanding! I suppose I should put up a photo or something. That "no image" thing really gets me!

Well then, welcome all you new people! It's been a fairly busy summer for me so far, if it wasn't for having to go to work I would probably not be checking in as often! I run a Mac with a 56k connection at home which doesn't like MyBoomerPlace for some reason or another. The thought of posting up $50+ for a DSL connection makes my wallet quiver.

I didn't know what I was actually thinking about when I created this group, I guess I was just looking to find others with that motorcycle itch. I like hearing about cruises, long trips, riding experiences, bike "issues", and just about anything else that goes along with motorcycles. Post what you like and hopefully we'll all be richer for the experience!

I think I've said before that I am located in SE CT. I've been taking longer and longer cruises lately. Went out to the cape a couple of weekends ago, and this past weekend I cruised the NY Hudson region. I'm not sure of the area's you all live in but it seems in CT in order to get somewhere you have to take a highway. I don't mind riding the big roads, I find I tend to get bored though. Well there's that and the V-Strom seems to traditionally have a buffetting problem with the windscreen on some of us "larger" riders. I've tried different helmets and I'm in the process of tilting the screen back with grommets to lessen the effect of the wind on the, as now, upright piece of plexiglass. Once I get somewhere it and I'm doing anything under 70 it's fine. One day it will be the perfect bike!

I recently added Nelson Rigg soft saddlebags to it which gives it a less bungee cord look when I'm travelling on the weekends. I haven't quite figured out the photo requirements for my personal gallery, it seems like everytime I try and add a photo it tells me it's too large of a file. Basically it's all black which appeals to me.

Future trips this summer are going to be a long weekend to the Jersey shore (Cape May), another long weekend to Vermont, and, hopefully, a trip to Maine and upstate New York. I've put about 3 grand on it so far this summer and I'm hoping to actually get it to the 12,000 mile mark (and subsequent service) at about the same time my 12 month warrenty is up the end of August.

Alrighty then, enough ramblings, how are everyones summer going?
