Sewing
Hello ,

This is Sharon the seamstress . I use to do alot of sewing for people online , there are several sites you just have to get on here and look . The main problem I had was finding steady work , or people who want to pay you what your worth . Good Luck and your prices are right , Don't sell your self short we are a dying breed and people will pay good money for a good steamstress. I make my own patterns and everything . I love to sew , but I never have time anymore . God Bless and Good Luck

You might want to check with the local drycleaners and see if you can put up a sign. Also, most grocery stores around here have bulletin boards you can post that sort of ad on. Good luck with it! Kat

Alterations
Quite a few years ago I worked at an alterations shop and found the work interesting and not difficult. As a way of helping to pay my way through the last year or so of college I was thinking of doing alterations again. I have a Home sewing machine which is practically brand new and matching serger which is all I think I would need as far as sewing equipment goes.

The question I'm curious about is how can I get started? I was thinking that I might possibly work through the community college I attend and advertise there, maybe make contacts there too. It would be a good place to meet with clients because there is a student life room and I might be able to set up something there. I could put up ads or flyers and maybe a classified in the school newspaper since I work with the paper staff.

What are going rates for alterations? I was thinking that hemming skirts could be around $5 or $7, pants $10, other things I'm open to suggestion. Any ideas of a website that has information like this?

Just want to say thanks in advance for any suggestions and help you can offer.

Jan
