The True Beauty of a Woman
Posted On 02/25/2008 18:40:50
So True

Ah, to arrive at the point in our lives when we know who we are and are content with ourselves. No longer is there the urge to please or impress. We realize, as the saying goes "those who care don't matter and those who matter don't care" if we're young and beautiful or starting to show our age, if our shape causes heads to turn or is just comfy and curvy.

We revel more in the warmth of relationships that have stood the test of time such as long-time friendships, lifelong partners and loving family. We cherish the sweetness of those newer arrivals in our lives such as grandchildren and, for some of us, the love of a friend, companion, helper and lover who cared to look beyond what the mirror reflects to know and embrace our souls in the autumn of our lives.

True and lasting beauty...and our worth...lie within...and the years can't take that away.

Just My Feelings
Posted On 02/22/2008 15:40:33
I put a comment on a blog posted yesterday that was a joke about Mexicans. I've held back for some time through the year and a half I've been on Boomer when I am offended by ethnic jokes, but finally couldn't stay silent any longer.

Some seem to find it funny to post derogatory jokes or blogs about those of the Mexican nationality. I just finally got fed-up enough to say something. The joke inferred, from what I understood, that seeing the Mexicans with a motorcycle immediately was interpreted as, not that it was owned by them, but that they must have stolen it. That's stereotyping.

I wish people would not find it necessary here on Boomer to post such things that disparage a particular group of people. I happen to have two children who are 1/2 Mexican from their father's side and two of my grandsons are 3/4 Mexican as their father is 100% Mexican. So you may understand why all this anti-Mexican stuff irritates me.

Since my feelings on this are not so much about that one joke as about jokes in general that poke fun at any particular group of people or blogs that put them down, I thought maybe I should just put my feelings out here publicly in a blog of my own.

Anyway, I expect I'm not going to change anyone's way of thinking. I just felt SOMEONE should speak up so that all those who find these sort of things appropriate can know that not ALL of us feel the way they do, and maybe they might take that into consideration, especially when some of us just might BE Mexican or closely related to one (or any ethnic group of people about whom someone is writing in a derogatory manner).

There's loads of funny stuff out there we can all enjoy, and many subjects one can blog about without stooping to this level. How about we think twice about what we are posting and try to make sure we will not offend?

Thanks for listening to my rant.

Susan Freeman Fundraiser-Lung Transplant
Posted On 02/20/2008 11:48:46
Back sometime last year, we heard about our Boomer friend, dejaVu777 (Susan) needing a lung transplant (actually two) and how, in order to get on the list, she is required to do fund-raising to help off-set the costs, some of which are not covered by insurance. At that time there wasn't really any official way to donate, but now I've learned there is, and we have until April 27, 2008 to help make a difference.

Please visit her fund-raising website, Susan Freeman Fund, read her story and, if your heart is moved to do so, please donate to help her out. The donations are via Paypal, are matched dollar for dollar by "Access to Care" at the Georgia Transplant Foundation and are tax deductible. Every little bit helps.

Thank you and God bless,

Janet

Kudos to MyBoneYard- Recycle

This website is a fantastic idea.

One, it is a service to help recycle electronics, keeping them out of the landfills (or piling up in your basement, drawers, etc.).

Two, it's free, even including the mailing label which they provide, free postage included.

Three, though it's best to do it oneself, they are very diligent to wipe all info from the electronics sent to them (computer hard drives, cell phone contacts, etc.).

Four, they recycle some of the refurbished electronics to schools, battered women's shelters, etc.

Five, they actually give some form of compensation to the the one sending in the electronic product for recycling.

On the downside, I found it impossible without actually going through the process of submitting an electronic I want to recycle through them to find out exactly what they give as compensation for ones using their service.

All in all, even without the plus of there being something in it for me, this is a much needed service. We all have computer parts, cell phones, etc. that are just sitting around as we move on to the next new system or gadget. I've seen electronic recycling locations before, but never with the free shipping nor with any compensation for the one donating the electronic equipment. Check it out!

Oh, My Gosh!

I just want to apologize to anyone who has stopped by my page recently. I usually don't linger there long, going right to messages or comments so I had no idea my music list had somehow been changed, definitely NOT to anything that would be my choice. *sigh*

For those of you who are new members, that was NOT "me". To all my long time friends here..I guess even your best friends won't tell ya...LOL.

The first song I heard as I opened my page just now was a rap, saying something like "I feel like dying.."..yeesh! Until I can get this fixed, I've deleted my music altogether!

The joys of the internet..I'm on my way to the site that provides my song list..grrrrrrr!

PS..Well, it's fixed now..went to my MySpace and the music was the way it's supposed to be, so I guess someone messed with my code here on Boomer. Not sure how that could be done but not nice..hmmm...

"Utter Stupidity"

Oh, boy...tonight I'm embarrassed to say Chicago is "my home town"...after voters in one city precinct were told to cast ballots with "invisible ink."

Click below to watch a video on our local news channel on the incident (excuse their ad that may run before the actual news report video):

Create a valentine and help homeless pets!
Posted On 02/03/2008 09:30:33
Hey, not to promote any pet food brand, but I just saw something from Purina where everyone can have fun, send some love, AND help homeless pets:

"This month, love is in the air at petcentric! Between February 1 and Valentine’s Day, Purina will donate 50¢ for every DOGGIE- or KITTIE-MAIL sent, with all proceeds benefiting homeless dogs and cats across the country. So swing by the Petropolitan and create your own custom Valentine, complete with selectable accessories, backgrounds and pets…you can even upload your own dog or cat photo!"

I'm thinking at 50 cents a Valentine, that could add up...so if you're inclined..and care about homeless pets..click below and send away. You can share the love AND save the pets.

Why Caroline Backed Obama

Sorry for yet another blog on the tail of the one I just posted, but I find this article interesting as well, though completely on another note.

I am in no way recommending any one candidate. I, myself, am still far from having a strong leaning toward any of those currently in the running. I did think that this article offered some interesting and possibly little known information on Barack Obama and his history, so I thought I'd share it with you.
