The Green Fairy (La Fee Verte)
Posted On 10/03/2006 18:48:22
I sort of felt like talking about the theme of my page. See, the thing of it is, fairies seem to be a very "in" thing right now and while I think they are cool, I tend to avoid trends. However my page isn't just any fairy page. It's a green fairy page. And if anyone is familiar with the delightful elixer that is known as "Absinthe", they know what I am talking about. That's because Absinthe is also known as The Green Fairy or "La Fee Verte". There is too much to tell about Absinthe to try and explain it here myself...the history, the myths, the ingredients, the taste, the effects, etc. If you're interested in learning about it, you can get some good, basic information on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absinthe I am what is referred to as an Absintheur, however I only drink Absinthe on rare occasion because good Absinthe is quite costly. Especially because the "real" stuff has to be shipped by special courier in order to stand the best chance of making it through customs. You see, oddly, it is illegal to sell Absinthe in the United States, however it is not illegal to possess it. Hopefully that will change before too long. Absinthe: my one guilty pleasure (besides "Big Brother" each summer )

I was thinking about John Denver today and...

Elton John, Sacramento, 9/15/06

I recorded this on Friday, Sept. 15, 2006 at Arco Arena in Sacramento. It's Elton John performing an extended version of "Rocket Man". Unfortunately I was unable to capture it in it's entirety as I ran out of memory.

A Boomer Survey
Posted On 09/11/2006 09:11:46
Here's a fun little survey I've created that's more applicable to those of our generation than most you come across on Myspace and elsewhere. An entertaining way to learn some interesting tid-bits about other folks here. Copy and paste this into a new bulletin window, delete my answers, add yours, and re-post. Oh, and feel free to add new questions.

Where were you born?
San Francisco

What is your recollection of JFK's assassination?
I seem to recall the school janitor entering my 2nd
grade classroom and informing us. I remember my mom
crying when I got home from school (my grandma also
died that month). And I remember John-John's salute
at the funeral.

What is your recollection of the moon landing?
I watched it on tv while vacationing at my friend's
summer home in Sebastopol, CA and was amazed.

(For the ladies): Did you ever burn your bra?
No, I was excited when I finally even NEEDED one
(LOL!)

Did you ever streak?
No, I had the opportunity and was tempted to on a high school spring break trip to Senegal, Africa, however I'm quite tall and was afraid that, at any speed, my height would give me away if our chapperones spotted us sprinting by.

What was the first concert you went to?
Glen Campbell with my parents when I was 13, however my first "real" concert was a George McGovern benefit concert when I was 16 in San Francisco featuring Chicago and Judy Collins

Who have you seen the most times in concert?
Probably a tie between Fleetwood Mac, Judy Collins, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Peter Paul and Mary

Who did you last see in concert?
American Idol Season 4 Live, a year ago

What was your favorite candy bar/gum/snack item as a kid or teenager?
Pistachio nuts, Razzle Gum (the packages of all-pink ones)

Did you ever hitchhike?
Only twice maybe...with friends. A short distance. And very nervous about it. (And not my idea )

What was your favorite vacation or vacation destination as a youth?
Cross country road trip with my parents and cousin to visit my aunt's farm in Wisconsin.

What was your first car?
A 1965 Chevy Bel Air

Can you remember the first non-kiddy album you bought?
I think it was Nancy Sinatra, "Boots". Either that or the Beatles "Yesterday and Today" (Gosh those guys churned out a heck of a lot of albums in the beginning)

What was your favorite type of music to listen to as a teenager? (Hard rock, pop, country, folk, oldies...?)
Folk rock

Who was your favorite actor or actress as a youth?
When I was a kid it was Julie Andrews. As a teen it was Diana Rigg (Emma Peel) and Roger Moore (guess I had a "thing" for Brits).

What was your favorite movie as a youth?
As a kid, a toss up between Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music. As a teen, probably Psycho. (Quite a contrast, eh?)

Were you a hippy?
No. I was too young. Would have liked to have attended Woodstock, but I was only 13 that summer and on the west coast

Did you have an Etch-A-Sketch?
Yes

Did you have a Creepy Crawler "factory" or one of the numerous offshoots?
Yes

Who was the most notorious local criminal or prominent celebrity or headline maker when you were growing up? At least that stands out most in your mind?
The Zodiac

What was your favorite tv show as a kid?
Probably Laugh-In

What do you miss about the 60's or 70's?
The originality. And feeling safer. Definitely not Disco! LOL!
