OY!

Many of you know about my daughter and how her last relationship pretty well ended in a train wreck. Well, she has started dating again. Met a guy on Yearbook (yeah, I know). They start talking, they find they like each other, so they meet for lunch. It goes well, they meet for lunch again. But, they are not a couple. They are just friends. He gives her a single red rose for Valentine's Day, then takes her out to dinner, then to a sport's bar. He calls her 3 and 4 times a day, either at work when things are slow (he works for a tire dealership) or when he gets home. She giggles and talks in that certain voice she has always used when talking to one of her boyfriends. But they are "just friends". I give up.
I got my GPA for this past quarter. 4.0!!!!!!! I guess there is a brain in there someplace.
I had lunch today with two of the sweetest ladies-Svetlana and fishin'_nana. We had so much fun, and I felt like I had known both of them for years. Mary and Marianne-I love ya both!
I have been at my job at the high school for 10 years now. I used to love being a lunchlady, but the last couple of years have been stressful. This one worse than any of the the others. The head cook has been on this power trip and she is making everyone's life miserable. So, when the Media Tech Facilitator job came open, I applied for it. I had to pass both a typing test and a ParaPro test to do it, but I did. I got the call this morning-the job is mine. Now comes the hard part-telling my boss.

Rebel

I guess I've always had a bit of a rebel in me. Not the trouble making kind. The type that always wants to be a bit different. It was always stifled, first by my parents, then my husband. But, bit by bit, that rebel is coming out. First, it was dying my mousy dark blond hair. I went through all the colors-browns, reds (I found out quickly that Burgundy turns my hair purple), blacks, before deciding to just let it go. By that time I was almost completely white. Next were the tattoos. Now I'm going to college. My husband is less than thrilled about the changes. I don't care-he can either learn to live with it or divorce me. Today after work I saw a couple on Harleys. I wonder how hard it is to learn to ride one.
As some of you know, I made the decision to enroll in community college with my goal of getting a degree in Culinary Arts. It's been 32 years since I graduated high school, so this was a very big decision for me. And a scary one. I had originally wanted to attend full time, but instead, on the advice of an academic adviser, decided to take just one class this quarter. It was good advice. Portfolio Development is a rather intense class, but one that, so far, I am enjoying. It's making me think about my goals and what I want to do with this degree once I obtain it (and obtain it I will, come Hell or High Water). For the first time in a long time, I'm pumped about what my future will hold.
ODE TO THE LUNCHLADY TEACHERS COME AND TEACHERS GO, IT'S THE LUNCHLADY YOU GET TO KNOW. SHE LADLES THE GRAVY, SHE SCOOPS THE PEAS, YOU CAN GET AN EXTRA PORTION IF YOU JUST SAY PLEASE. FIVE DAYS OF THE WEEK, THE LUNCHLADY IS THERE, HANDING YOU A TRAY WITH A PIZZA SQUARE. ALTHOUGH SOME OF YOUR FOOD MIGHT LOOK A BIT SCARY, YOU CAN REST ASSURED IT'S SANITARY. BECAUSE THE LUNCHLADY SERVES HER FOOD WITH PRIDE, EVEN IF SHE'S NOT SURE WHAT'S INSIDE. POTATO NUGGETS, CORN DOGS, PUDDING AND PIE, CASSEROLES, MEDLEYS, AND SOMETHING THAT'S FRIED. SHE FILLS YOUR PLATE WITH A SMILE AND A WINK, AND REMINDS YOU TO PICK OUT SOMETHING TO DRINK. LUNCH LADY, LUNCH LADY, YOU'RE THE DIVA OF THE SCHOOL, I DON'T CARE WHAT MY FRIENDS SAY, I THINK YOU'RE COOL!
The school I work at. Threats of violence. The 2 students responsible for starting the rumors (which is all it was) are now suspended and I would not be surprised if further action is taken. However, I'm angry. Ever since the shootings at Virginia Tech, this type of thing has been happening at many schools. It's. Not. Funny.
Today at school, we caught a teacher stealing food from the lunchline. She came through, got a sandwich, some vegitables, and a milk, stuffed them in her pocket, and slipped out. The cashier reported it to the Head Cook, as we are supposed to do. Here's the thing-this is not the first time. I caught her more than once stealing a container of yougurt. I reported this to the Head Cook, like I was supposed to. Today was the first time the Head Cook reported it to the Principal. She even told him this was not the first time, but she said nothing in the past. What angers me most is, in the first place, if I had seen the theft and not said anything to the Head Cook, I would have gotten in a lot of trouble. She would have basically ripped me a new one for not saying anything. Yet, as a person in a responsible position, she did nothing. In the second place, perhaps this teacher is broke. But these kids are taught that this is never an excuse. She is setting a bad example for these kids. I guess right now I'm just venting. People wonder why kids are like they are. In some cases, they are being presented with some poor examples.
