Driving and Driver’s Ed
Posted On 11/18/2008 07:00:40

Back in Texas, around the year of 66, you could get a license at 14 if you took drivers education.  I had to wait till I was 15 so I could take drivers ed at summer school. I had been drivin my mom when I was 14, cause she liked the way I drove compared to my older brothers or my dad. Had also "cut my teeth" ridin go-carts.

Never forget that first day of drivers ed, lookin inside the car that had a extra break on the passenger side for the instructor to override enthusiasm with. Oh but wait, I lucked out big time,Nancy was my partner. She was a cute nice shy country girl with long brown hair with a small problem, well actually a big problem. Her brother Ricky was a big and mean country boy who would fight at the drop of a hat, and win. Look but don’t touch - and - so close but so far.....

We started in a parking lot with a few cones on the ground marking the course to test our turning ability. When I drove, the instructor immediately asked "how long you been drivin?", guess I was doing ok. Nancy took the wheel, oh no, she tried the first turn, turned the wheel, but she did not know how to turn, held the steering wheel after turning it, thought the car automatically straightened up. Yikes, I wanted to laugh my ass off, but then I remembered her brother Ricky!!!  Our last drive was in downtown San Antonio, oh no, but she did ok, barely passing.

I helped Nancy along the way, she new I was holding back my laughter, we were good friends after that and no we were never gf/bf, remember Ricky. He even to a likin towards me, very unusual for him to like anyone, guess he appreciated me helpin her.

I took my official drivin exam and aced it, even the parallel parkin, remember that? I used my mom’s automatic transmission car, but wanted to drive my brother’s standard, but the automatic was easier for the test.

I just love manual shift, if you know what I mean......

Howabout your first driving Experiences ???

First "Real" Job
Posted On 11/17/2008 07:14:09

I had cut yards(hit a few sprinkler heads) and was a paperboy until we had to "fold um" and "porch um".
But my first "real" job was at Gulf-Mart in San Antonio Texas.  That store sold food, clothes, sportin goods, you-name-it.  Made being a packageboy a challenge.  Pay was a buck sixty five an hour, translation(1.65 a hour).  Had to wear a white shirt and a funky bow tie.  Cashiers had to actually punch the prices into clunky old machines.  No plastic bags, had to double sack the cold or heavy stuff.
You had to be a member, only cost a couple of bucks.  This was back in 67, maybe this store was a first of its kind, long before the mega membership stores.

Maybe I was a "piece of history", but now most folks refer to me as a "piece of work", could be worse, they might refer to me as a "piece of ????", LoL....

Funny, back then I wanted to work(and stilll do), never understood about other folks not wanting to work that were capable of workin. Some things never change....

Howabout your first "real" job?????????
