Is that it?I guess so… Sheesh! And here all you guys thot I wasn’t doing anything or anybody in my old age.Y’all have no idea!
I am up early, not because I want to be but because the Grasscutter is out there on the ‘beast of noise’ cutting the grass!Lolol He does such a good job… He got here so he could get the job done before the heat sets in again.Trust me, when he mows outside the bedroom window, he definitely gets my attention.
Did I mention that it was 90 in the shade yesterday? What happened to that beautiful cool August day (one) that we had this last week? It did cool down last nite tho… I went out after the sun was behind the trees to the west. Nice, nice, nice…. Oh dear… the six pack started playing doggy tag… I never quite figured out who was it tho, but I did manage to stay out from underfoot this time.
I walked around the yard for a bit and then went out to sit on the glider by the pond.I got so tickled at Viva… Her was hunting frogs… Do you suppose she was the one who put the frog under the fridge?Might have been but not sure.Another one of life’s little mysteries.LOLOL
Not a very good shot of the little critter but he was hiding in the ivy out front…I think my cam was ‘fused’!Or maybe it was me?
Well, between the no-see-ums and the mosquitoes I finally decided to come in… I hate the itchies!Wasn’t quite dark yet.
Woooo Hoooo…!!!!When I went out to talk to Grass cutter for a few, I looked up and lo and behold… Contrails all over the place.Boy, I tell you them guys are either scared to death of this sweet lil ol lady or they are obsessed with the Granny Grunge outfits.Whichever, it works… I saw them tic tac toe lines up there and smiled!Of course,I was really a killer good looker this morning… I had on the nice caftan, my finally dried out mocs but no teeth and hair uncombed.Them BBSBs must really love me!Lolol I am soooooo gorgeous first thing in the morning!Hugs guys and gals! I am sooo happy to see you up there.
Let’s see here… I have a tip… You know those little black bowls that you bake in?You know, the ones that come with raspberry sweet stuff or chocolate sweet stuff?Well, I save them little bowls now. They make the best ice cubes ever.
I clean the bowls and fill with water, or whatever.Freeze them… use 3 or 4 to put in my big mug to cool and dilute my pop; they just fit.You could add a cherry or a slice of orange for color and something to munch on when you get to the bottom of the mug.I think the kids would just love them… you could also put a stick in and freeze some cool-aid.I suggest you put the kids in the bathtub before handing these out.
Only warning on the above… be sure to check the bottom of the bowl for cracks before you do the refill. If cracked, pitch them. You can use both sizes to start flower seeds in… be sure to put a saucer under them, just in case…( I use a wood burning tool to punch holes in the bottom.Have plenty of ventilation while doing this or do it outside… Be careful… You don’t want a fire!)
Back to being out doors… I took the cam with me this time.Pockets do come in handy…lololStarted a couple more albums… One will have flowers and plants; the other is the start of wild critters. No, Sherri and Marv, I am not in there… lolol
Before I forget…I was playing with Topix yesterday… Went to the City of Hamilton to see what I might see.Welllllll, there’s a spot to post pix… I put a self portrait pic of myself… caption reads “Paula at 74 yoa”(years of age).Could NOT resist the temptation.Lolol My enemies are gonna be soooooo unhappy.I have the giggles.
Guess that’s it for now… Take care all of mine.Go in safety always.Remember to do something outrageous (but harmless) at least once a day. Then giggle!
Many hugs, much love and lots of lafter… The always up to sumfin meems
PS….a health problem cropped up again yesterday… Need to take a few days off to recover.Nothing serious at the moment.Take care of one another.I’ll check the mail each day… If anyone needs any help, contact me right away… hugs
EONS INDEX TO MILITARY/VETERANS GROUPS WWW.EONS.COM/GROUPS/GROUP/MILITARY-GROUPS-ON-EONS
OK, Daggone it! I spent the other day doing a special layout for the NEWS on MSWord. Did it turn out right when I c/p to anywhere else? I don’t think so. I have no idea what I am doing wrong… And I’ve tried to c/p YouTube’s… the link came out but the YT’s didn’t show up even tho there is open space for it.
Have I mentioned that I am a puter dummy? Only took me ten years to learn to copy/paste…lolol and now the puter doesn’t want to follow instructions?
Sheesh…Has any one ever thot that the puters take on the personality of the owner? Mine no longer argues/corrects me when I make up words as I go along.. lolol Do puters have a white flag… ‘I give up’ white flags? Puterwon has given up on the word ‘thot’… just takes it in stride nowadays…
Another thing, very important thing… The weather has changed for the better! Would you guys believe it was in the low fifties overnite? I even had the window open… fan blowing… A/C OFF! I am gonna live! YES! Fall is my favorite time of the year… Warm days… cool nites…air dryer. I can start getting outside to play in the dirt!
I even went out to get the mail before sunset… Dogs were playing doggy gotcha tag… I cracked up… Viva was it… and it is too funny watching little Pyggs play growling and attacking a dog that outweighs him by at least 80 lbs. The only dangerous part in this tag team match is if I see them heading for me… Good grief! You can find yourself on the ground in a heartbeat. Trust me, this is not a good place to be when the critters are romping… I expect any day to be trompled under a herd of buffalo… like what happens when the critters wake me when they figure I’ve had enuf sleep. I am black, blue, green, yellow and various shades of purple!
Have I mentioned that I like colors? You learn to after a short spell of the above treatment. I haven’t even gotten to the scratches and scrapes… Oh, the pain! Lololol
Let’s see here… Oh, I guess my Flyguys/gals have given up on me. While I was out checking for the mail, I stood in the drive-way for a long time. No BBSBs went over. I think I heard one in the distance to the east of me. But didn’t see a thing. No clouds up there either… just a hazy blue for as far as I could see. Maybe they’re addicted to my Granny Grunge outfits.. and I was cleaned up today… Purple caftan with embroidered pink roses at the neckline. Even had my hair combed… Wonders will never cease.
Now, here is sumfin bad to think about… Health care bill… paying taxes on insurance as income.. I will lose my home on the mountain…I retired from the Ohio State insurance… I will now have to pay taxes on what I worked for years ago? I am not a happy camper..
BTW, I did try to read the Health Bill… It made no sense and had soooo many loop holes and phrases written in such a manner as to do nothing but confuse the reader… Unless we, the people, get together and throw a hissy fit about this new biased law, we are all in a heap of trouble. I suggest strongly that you all contact your congressmen… and right now!
And then, there are the ‘death taxes’ … and the new property rights laws.
Sorry to be such a downer but truth is truth… and woe betide those who feel ‘it does not apply to me’.
I try not to be political but sometimes I must speak up. Biting my tongue nor sitting on my hands does not work. Just ask anyone who knows me well. Lolol
I managed to get some pix taken of the new 10’ tall lilies…They are blooming… lolol at something like two foots… I know, I know… it takes 3 seasons at least for them to grow that high…ten feets… The new roses are doing well… and it is starting to look like a jungle out there.
I’ve always wanted a country cottage type look to my homes… and this time, I have the room..Lots of room. Guess I should dig up some pics of the original neat and tidy lawn/yard and what I have growing now. The ivy is finally starting to grow on the west, hottest, side of the house. Eventually it will cover the brick and insulate it.
I’ve started different beds in many locations… I leave driving spaces between the beds so I can use Tildy to haul stuff. This is my very own garden of Eden… I have an acre and a third to play with… Now, if the weather will co-operate, I can get into all kinds of trouble out there.
The wild wisteria is going to seed pods… I am watching them closely. Want to salvage those and try to get them growing in another location. And then I have wild clematis growing on the guy-wire to the electric pole. The clematis is blooming like crazy. This one I’ll need to trim.
Guess that’d better be it for the time being. Take care all of mine. Go in safety always. Remember to take care of yourself… the earth depends on us and we depend on her!
Many hugs, much love and lots of lafter each day… meems
Awake, I listen and hear night sounds... Hunters baying on far hills... Nested hens murmuring soft comforts... My dog gently snoring. MONDAY EDITION 2010*8*22 Link to Military Groups www.Eons.com/groups/group/military-groups-on-eons WELCOME HOME, DEAR HEARTS, WELCOME HOME New and joining the Navy Hi I am new here and would love to talk about and get advice about my new adventure in life. I am joining the Navy at age 58. I take my final physical Aug.9th. I am also flying to an active carrier this month for an overnight stay. It is a long story but even senior citizens can still contribute to our country through miltary service.

posted by emom101 %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Sorry it has taken so long to reply. I have been busy with my new venture.
Here is a short version of a long story about my journey into the military at age 58.
In April 2009 my son joined the Navy as a NUPOC (Nuclear Engineer for the Nuclear Fleet) candidate as an engineering major at Gonzaga U. During the time he went through a long application, testing and interviewing process. I flew to Spokane to talk to the Navy personel about the program and fell in love with it. As a University Professor at a small engineering university in Indiana, I had just completed putting together a new Informatics program. The Navy was interested in my work and I talked to quite a few officers about my ability to help with recruiting talented engineers for the NUPOC program.
Last November the Navy flew me to San Diego for 4 days where I toured the Submarine base and also toured a nuclear sub and a destroyer. I held lengthy conversations with many officers and quickly became friends with a couple of O3s who told me they would like to make me a Campus Liaison Officer (commissioned in the Navy reserve). Of course I reminded them that I was way past the age limit of 42 but that did not deter them. They explained in certain situations waivers could be obtained. I went through the application process, finished my full military physical two weeks ago and I was finger printed and .... I need only to complete my final interview in two weeks and I will be commissioned.
I have been successfull at recruiting for several Navy officer programs at my university. I will be going to other universities to help the Navy with faculty and staff to bring them on board (so to speak) with helping students get the information to begin a great career in the nuclear fleet or other specialty areas. The Navy officers I work with really want to get me on the payroll soon and it looks like that will happen. So for the first time in my life - I will join the military.
I heard once that - "You only live once but try to be young again at least twice" Gogeter %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% WAY TO GO, GOGETER! YES!
I am so proud of you... Hooo Raaaa (I know this is a Marine phrase, but it suits!)
May I copy and paste your posts to all my groups. I would really appreciate it and I know that many would be interested to hear what you have done and had to say.

Please use my story as much as you like. What I do is for my generation. I have been inspired by many other men and women who refuse to give up life and do challenging things as seniors. I hope to inspire others by telling and sharing my story.
This Tuesday the Navy is flying me to San Diego to the Naval Airstation where Wednesday they will be flying me out to the aircraft carrier USS Vinson. I will be spending the night observing day and night flight operations and touring the ship at sea. Thursday I will be taking off from the carrier and back to San Diego. As I live in Indiana this is going to be quite a trip. I am honored to be selected for this embark.
Thank you for the support. I could use as much as I can get.

Thank you my dear ones, for allowing me to use your comments and posts. I am still amazed to find that even the elders are valued by the military. Just goes to show we are still able to help our youngsters no matter our age. (I am no longer going to use the word ‘elderly’! Elders is the correct and proper term… The word denotes wisdom, dignity and integrity in the individual. (Well, there are a few exceptions, but I will not name names at the moment.)
Take care all of mine..go in safety always. Remember to do what you can, when you can for others…
This link will take you to the California Fire News… “Bud” did not make a dime from this commercial…It is a memorial for 9-11… I cried. The ‘Clydes” were outstanding. Well done, Bud!
WELCOME HOME, DEAR HEARTS, WELCOME HOME Here is the link to EONS INDEX for our Veterans & Active military.
Did I remember to put everything up there? I hope so… My short term mem ain’t what it used to be… Except where the Marv is concerned… He is such a brat! Him picks on this sweet, lil ol’ lady… lolol Would I LIE? Oh yeah, these lovely green eyes would make up a story about him in a heart beat…. He is so easy and cheap too. Gotcha again Brat!
OK, Get in here and make yourselves comfy… Bring your own toast! I still haven’t gotten a loaf and I certainly haven’t been able to con anyone into bringing me one..Ratz!
Are ye settled yet? We have any mudslides from all this rain? Well, I have a new neighbor in the area… I spotted him/her the other day… A Blue Heron… He flew up to the top of the spruce across the road from the front of the house and sat there.
You know me, I was out by the mail box and could see his silhouette so plainly against the sky… Well, he flapped his wings…I flapped my arms and elbows. He stretched his neck in that tell tale S curve and I copied the motion (with my arm, not my neck) as best I could. I whistled softly and he ‘talked’ back to me. I was thrilled to death.
I wonder if the ‘Boyfriend’ cardinal will get jealous? Hmmmm… lolol
Anyhow, I hope my hillside watcher wasn’t out there watching…and that my BBSBs didn’t see me either. Altho, one of them Birds, contrail following, went right over the house when I was coming up the side ramp.
I was flashed several times… lolol did you ever try to curtsy while standing sideways on a ramp? Trust me, it ain’t easy and my balance ain’t that good to begin with. Just once, kids, just once. Well, it was too hot to stay out there very long… I was also past due to take the towel off my head so my hair could dry. See, I can multi-task when I must. Lol
Oh, a short short here… lolol I have finally filled out the status questionnaire on my profile page… Let me know what you think… I think I am in trouble! Lolol
Let’s see here…Anna gave me some old fashioned red pears the other day. I finally got around to taking some pix of them… memory joggers for a few paintings… I can see a realistic rendition… I can also see an abstract version. or view link
Then while I was playing with my cam, I spotted two blossoms on my 3 year old mimosa. It lives on the back side of the big pond. This pic didn’t come out too well, lolol, lil cam’s body was cold and a mist formed on the lens from the high humids and the temp difference. or view link
The fuzzy pink dead center of pic are the firsts for it…
Almost forgot… the other day at Anna’s… The first words out of her mouth were: “Who ironed your T Shirt?” I fell over laffing… First, Barkely wants to bite me. Then Anna picks on my clean (yes, it was clean!) T-shirt. I have more fun!
Take care all of mine… Go in safety always. Remember you don’t have to be perfect… Learn to laff at your imperfections. (This is the real reason I get tickled so easily)
Many hugs, much love and loads of lafter every day… meems
WooHoo… get your buns in here! Hot out there again … 102 on the sunny side, but the air is some dryer. Thank goodness… However, yesterday, we had a ‘gully washer’. A total of 2.1” of rain. I would say snow but that on the inside of the house.
How bout I have a hallway full of white fluffies. Oh, yes! Doggy fall out is still on the move… I’ve forgotten who gave me the hint (Sorry bout that) but I have started saving it for the mulch bed… If I ever manage to get out there. I have plastic bags hanging from every door knob in the house… Shut up, Sherri and Marv… It’s just a new style of decorating! Doesn’t everybody have a plastic bag hanging from the knobs?
Speaking of Decorating… lolol I am forced, by my charming disposition, to rat out the Marv. Lolol Oh dear, I know I will pay for the following but the temptation is just overwhelming.
Would y’all believe the Marv is redoing the painted surfaces inside his house? OMG! A picture forms in my mind and I get hysterical! To hear him tell it, he is just one step removed from the pros. Pro what, I am not sure… lolol
Any way, he says that: the old paint on the bath room cabinet has faded and the paint in the can no longer matches. Ditto for the walls. Then there were a few choice words about the rusted can that dribbled paint on the floor. I think he now has a freckled bath tub, and I think he mentioned something about the kitchen sink and the microwave. We haven’t gotten to the brushes yet.
Seems like nobody told him what a ‘trim ‘ brush does. And no, one does not wear a good shirt while retouching… I am living proof of that! (see above) And NO, you don’t put an artist type brush over your ear and then lean forward for a close-up touch up! Oh dear, I am on a ROLL/BAGEL/cascade! Need I go on? This is just part of the pay back for sending me a live (at the time sent) lobster by greyhound from California. Another trust me, Greyhound Bus lines is still looking for the boy! Did I getcha Brat? Lol
Then there’s the person who hasn’t known me too long… this person says I a ‘bawdy’? What? Who? Me? Bawdy! LOLOL I just betcha! Behind this façade, lies an ornery, pick on you type personality. (That is, when I am not in a running battle with the ‘powers that be’. ) When those battles occur… I become like a dragon… breathing fire and brimstone. (that’s without the aftermath of an onion and garlic meal!)
Otherwise, I am sweet and charming and loveable and kind hearted and I AM GONNA BE SICK!… lolol I am now on the floor with the giggles! And should you all believe this, I have an interesting historical bridge to sell you… How about a large gold boulder? Bricks are way too common anymore. How bout one of those rare diamonds which seem to melt when removed from the freezer?
They are coming to take me away! Hey! Hey! This is per Anna. Ya suppose she knows sumfin I don’t?
Almost forgot… Rec’d a letter from Rep. Hal Rogers… He’s looking into for me. He, I truly believe, is a decent man.
That’s it! Take care all of mine. Go in safety always… Remember to give your friends a hard time. A gotcha makes everybody laff and feel better!
Good grief! I’m just full of advice today… Here’s another remember….Don’t just ‘think’ outside the box; climb out of it too…
Many hugs, much love and lots of lafter. The wound up meems
Come on in here and set a spell… Make yourselves comfortable while I do a little explaining. Seems like I’ve upset some of my friends here on Eons. The “law of the unintended fall out” has struck again. Yes, I am talking about my diatribe re cigarettes being banned thru the mail…that our military would not, could not receive packages containing them. This is no small thing!
We all know I smoke. I threw my hissy fit about the law, not the pros or cons of smoking. I neither condone nor disparage smoking. I have the same opinion about drinking… altho I do not drink.
What I was and am fighting for is the ‘rights’ of the individual to choose. Our guys and gals, their families and friends had the right of choice taken away from them. Can the military drink…Yes, if they so choose. Why then, can they not smoke, if they so choose?
Smoking has been the choice of the individual… as has been drinking. These however, in my opinion, are not the problem. The problem has come down ‘from above’ in a law written with one idea in mind. The law did not take into consideration the other law “the law of unintended results”.
This incident crossed the line as far as I was concerned and I spoke my piece. Many of you may not agree and that, dear hearts, is what freedom is all about.
No hard feelings, brats… We fought for all of you. We, because we stuck together, won this small battle. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
AND NOW A COMMENT FROM OUR ROVING REPORTER in Maui… This editor had nothing to do with the following… lolol Trust me!
Coconut Wireless to Emom’s Mountain News…Newsflash on BBB (Bamboo Bulletin Board) this a.m. reads as follows. WEDNESDAY…8-18-10...SOS...SOS...Local Mountain Womam aka LOMOWO spotted buying breaded shrooms aka Magic Mushrooms. Vanilla no longer packing punch. Hallucinogenic mushrooms now providing LOMOWO with round the clock magic carpet tripping. Mountain community on High Alert...asked to report unusual sightings.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
Go Donna, Go! Lolol
First of all I did NOT buy shroomHallu… I did trip out… when I got home I found that the shrooms were the only thing breaded… I forgot to buy a loaf of… so there!
Think I am gonna’ quit here and take a nap… running on 3 hours sleep. Take care all of mine, go in safety always. Remember to think of those who cannot speak for themselves.
Many hugs, much love and lots of laffter all your lives… meems
This is a quote from a copy of the sopping wet, wrinkled notice I rec'd from the post office today... I've tried so hard to make it legible but just can't do it.
Per the letter: "... Starting August 27th, military care packages with tobacco can be sent using Priority Mail which ships to overseas military addresses, according to USPS spokesman Greg Frey"
Hugs Beloveds... ain't this great?... meems Meems is doing a thank you dance to the gods of the military and the post office and the people of America!
WELL DONE ALL OF MINE, WELL DONE! YESSSSSSS!!!!!
I am thrilled to death… see what happens when we all work together… This is what America is all about.
I AM WALKING ON AIR… HATS, HORNS AND BALOONS GALORE! GO RED, WHITE AND THE BLUE!

WELCOME HOME, DEAR HEARTS, WELCOME HOME!
Wooo Hooo… get your buns in here! All of 72 out there today for a high! It’s dreary, drizzly, drab and dull! How’s that for alliteration? Lolol all ‘d’s… lolol
Anyway, would you believe I got out of the house yesterday? It was some cooler, in the mid 80’s, so I decided to jump in Tildy, my pickup, to run down to the two pumper. I needed bread.
Well, I got bread all right… Breaded shrooms… I love shrooms no matter how they are packaged. I also bought two large jars of pickled shrooms… yummy yummy! And I found a bottle of sugared Nehi… peach flavored. Not bad… and here I thot that Nehi had gone out of business years ago. I found some packets of perennial seeds, daisies and poppies, bot them too. (no, I am not going to eat the seeds. Will plant in the next month or so and hope for the best) I got some chips and cream cheese too…. Meems is being a baaad girl again… foodwise.
Oh, I stopped at Anna’s for a few…She cracks me up… Front inside door was closed… Oh oh, is she gone? Nope… she is doing the Indianapolis 500 on her riding mower… Out in the orchard to the side of the house…look out world. Lolol I waved… honked horn. Got out of Tildy… waved some more and eventually she spotted me… Look out, here she comes just a flying… headed straight for me… I headed for the porch… Safety first…almost.
Barkely has decided that I am the biggest, ugliest, dog smelliest critter in the whole world… Barkley lives up to his name…He has me ‘treed’ on the front sidewalk… lolol Anna is forced to come to the rescue… I cracked up… No, I’m not afraid of him but I know that he WILL bite. He is the boss man and guard for an umpteen acre farm. A huge barn, a fantastic field of baccer. While he’s at it, he guards Anna’s son and grandsons… the Barkley is one busy little dog…He maybe weighs all of 20 lbs… all muscle and protection. or view link
A dear friend sent me a radio station addy Pandora.com Well, I went there and typed in the version of Scarborough Fayre by Simon and Garfunkel. This is fantastic! It auto loads similar styles of music… I am hearing pieces I’ve never heard before. What a delightful experience…Thanx again, Draco!
Take care all of mine… go in safety always. Remember to listen to the world and a lovely gentle song. These will calm the worst of storms if only for a few.
Many hugs, lots of love and loads of quiet lafter… meems
