Do you wonder if there's a fox in the henhouse at the Fed? This link might answer part of that question for you! There are no words to describe

Our nation is in dire straits from an overburdened deficit, yet as I listened to C-SPAN today one legislator after another assailed the proposed cuts to one program after another. Most of these legislators were Democrats, and in nearly every instance they claimed that the proposed cuts would cut jobs. Let's get one thing straight now, government jobs do not stimulate the economy, they drain it. But that's the very jobs they wish to protect. What part of economics don't they understand? You can't possibly continue to carry more and more debt, borrow more and more money to not only carry that debt, but increase it. the Ayatollah Hussein presented a budget that has the largest deficit in our history, then shows plans to reduce the debt less than the amount his budget is over in one year. Where is the sanity in that?
No one wants higher taxes. Hell, most of us don't want taxes at all! But we also realize that it takes money to operate any business, including government. We just would like to see government operate within its means. To me that means cutting the budget to a break even basis, not a deficit basis year after year. And include a portion to repay not just the interest on our debt, but the debt itself! And that includes paying back the trillions owed to Social Security and Medicare! In case you didn't know it, Congress has used the SS and Medicare Trust funds as slush funds for years now. They borrow all they can over what they think it will cost them on a yearly basis to operate those institutions, and replace what they borrow with Treasury Bonds. And when a bond matures, they replace it with yet another bond, rolling the interest back into the new bond. And they now want to "cut" those institutions? Why don't they start paying them back and replacing the bonds with acttual money? Do you think SS and Medicare would become solvent as a result?
One of the main reasons costs are so high on everything is because of government regulations, so reduce those regulations and reduce the size, and reach, of government in the process. All of this will take several currently unacceptable actions. If, however, we start with a balanced budget amendment coupled with an overhaul of the tax system, we might have a chance to save this nation from itself, and its government. Then we can start to figure out exactly what programs need to go, which ones need to be cut, and which ones really help.
I'm waiting to see what actually comes out of Congress for a budget, so I can compare it to the Ayatollah's budget, before I can comment on what all is wrong with both of them. But rest assured, neither one will do what is really needed to cut our deficit, and our debt. Most of it is simply lip service.

As a young man, I saw what I considered to be the real men of this country, and they were everywhere. Not so today. I look around and most of what I see is a bunch of cowering cowards. Real men stand out, so they are quite easy to spot. Especially since there are so few of them now. Some are in uniform, some are just going by hoping not to be noticed, others are quietly standing by waiting, watching for trouble but never going out looking for it. No, I'm not talking about that adrenalin charged cop who shows up to a call with his hand on his weapon, puffed up and trying to look menacing. And I'm not talking about the power trip TSA or airport security personell or others like them who use their authority to push people around. I'm talking about those men, and women, who go about their business without fanfare, but are always vigilant, always ready to take action, ready to step up and do what they can to help no matter the personal danger to themselves.
What brings up tis particular subject? The GMA coverage of the guy in NY who got sliced up by a freak on the subway. Now, I won't take anything away from this guy. He certainly did what he could to control the psycho until the two cops finally subdued him, and he got severely chopped and sliced during the ordeal. But the truth is, the "hero" was attacked and defended himself. That's not heroism in my eyes, that self-protection. So let's take the English grannie who went after those thieves with her purse, then wanted to slip quietly back into her routine. Now that's a hero! Much like the men I grew up watching, and emulating.
By nature, I'm not a confrontational kind of guy, but I also am not afraid of confrontation. Many my age are the same way, but most those of the following generations seem to shirk from confrontation. They turn away when they see something going down, not wanting to "get involved". I can remember seeing one man walk into a melee to help another man who was obvioulsy in trouble against four thugs, and he did so with no thought of what might happen to him. He was then followed by three others who also disregarded their own safety to help handle the situation. And they held the culprits until one cop showed up to take them into custody. Notice I said one cop, not an entire SWAT team and dozens of other cops. Imagine that, ONE COP!!
That's just one instance from my youth, but it certainly influenced me. Enough that I have found myself, over the years, stepping in, using whatever I could to level the playing ground and even the odds, all to defend the defenseless or the overpowered. But in a situation recently I was accosted by a handful of modern day thugs, and not a single person came to my aid. I'm old now, and use a cane most of the time. I'm not in the best of health, or shape, but I'm still a good sized guy. The first thing that should have been noticed by these punks was that I showed no fear, and felt none. But they were only focused on one thing. Doing me harm and taking any valuables I had on me. (Idiots, I rarely carry more than $10 cash!) The second thing they should have noticed was that I moved my cane to the maximum damage position, a lesson two of them learned in a real hurry. One of the three that remained standing flashed a knife, just before he went down. Then came the gun, and a broken arm that forced him to drop it in a flash. The last guy hightailed it out of there, having lost his bravado, leaving his comrades behind.
This all took about four minutes, but I was winded, though I didn't realize it until it was all over. It was another ten minutes before the cops showed up. I counted eleven. I have no idea who called them, but there was a woman who came forward after they were down and asked if I was okay. I noticed she was holding a cell phone, so I can only assume she was the one who hit 911. But out of some thirty or so people who witnessed the entire thing, she was the only one who came forward, and that was after it was all over. And you should have seen that crew of cops! What a bunch of scared rabbits they were! They acted like they were there to apprehend the Capone gang! Butt hat was nothing compared to the fool who drew the gun. He was crying, "He broke my arm! He broke my arm!" He actually acted like I had done something wrong.
What I did doesn't make me any kind of hero, I was just defending myself. But where were the men among those who stood by watching? Where were the heroes? They, sadly, were not to be found. So I suppose I shouldn't be surprised when the LSM makes a big deal out of anyone who stands up to the thugs of the world. It is a very rare occurence these days. Even after the bravery of the heroes of Flight 93, our citizenry still hasn't learned to be brave. Or that bravery is the answer to defeating terrorism and reducing the effect of thugs in our society. So to them I say, DAMMIT, GROW A PAIR!!

I was Confused. I became confused when I heard the word "Service" used with these agencies: Internal Revenue "Service"; Postal" Service"; Telephone "Service"; Cable TV "Service"; State, City, County "Service"; Customer "Service"; "Service" Employees Union International. This is not what I thought "Service" meant. But yesterday at the sale barn, I overheard two ranchers talking. One of them was talking about a new bull he bought to "Service" his cows. It all came into focus. Now I understand what all those agencies are doing to us. You are now as enlightened as I am.

Many of us older than 50 have trouble keeping up with all the current texting codes the kids use these days. Some of them just don't make any sense at all. In fact, texting makes no sense at all to many of us. If something is that damned important, we need to wait to talk about it when we are together, not send a text or make a cell phone call. But for those of you who insist on acting like teenagers and sending text message after text message, I'm going to give you the text codes I've been forced to learn. These are also appropriate for "tweeting".

It just continues to amaze me that the political pundits and politicians can't figure it out. We've all heard the poll results about how Americans now want the members of Congress to get along, and get along with the White House, on the issues at hand like unemployment, the deficit, the economy, Afghanistan, etc. And the pundits and politicos all say the same thing, not only do we want them to get along, we want them to do something about the problems our nation faces, they just have a far different take on what that really is.
Here's the way I see it, November said it all. We, the majority of Americans, weren't happy with having a Democrat controlled House and Senate in combination with a Democratic controlled White House so we made a change. We made that change because we didn't like where we were being taken by the Democrats. We put a lot of Republicans in office in hopes of effecting that change we wanted, and we are giving them time to get it done. But not a lot of time. If they drop the ball, they WILL get tossed out on their ears. As for the Democrats, they had better shift gears and get with us or they will be gone in bigger numbers than they can ever imagine in 2012. Now that we have the House controlled by the Republicans we want to see cooperation between Congress and the White House. BEFORE last November's election we weren't at all happy with the way they were running roughshod over us, and our Constitution. Now here's the part the elite just can't seem to comprehend. We didn't like the leftist direction we were heading, and we now want to have them work together to get things done, like repeal Husseincare.
To me that means we want the leftists to go back to the right and the moderate right to do the same. That means we don't want the socialist agenda, or anything close to it, forced down our throats. We want a far more conservative approach to how our government is run, and how our elected officials represent us. Yet every one of the elites I heard this morning on the Sunday political shows seemed to completely miss the message. They think we want them to meet in the middle, and in a way we do. We just want that middle to be about 90 degrees back to the right.
We want to turn back the clock on the deficit, healthcare reform, government growth, overall waste in government as well as the control our government has over our daily lives. And if they can "work together" on those issues we'll be fine. That is as long as they learn to follow the Constitution and repeal not only healthcare but dozens of other laws they passed that did nothing more than create more bureaucracies and government spending while removing our liberties. Like I said, we don't mind if they meet in the middle just as long as that middle is moved WAY back to the right, toward a more conservative level.
As for the political rhetoric after Tuscon, I see a big change --- in the speech from the right. but I certainly don't see any calming from the majority on the left. Sure, a few have toned it down, but for the most part those on the left are still ranting and raving about all sorts of things. To me that is jsut further proof that they just don't get it. Tucson wasn't caused by vile political rhetoric, but the call for taming it down certainly was a good outcome of it. Too bad it's falling on the deaf ears of those who needed to hear that call the most.
What say you?

Grammar

As most of you know, I am not normally a stickler about grammar or punctuation, though I do try to use them correctly myself. However, of late I have seen some errors that just must be challenged. Now I won't point anyone out by name as that isn't my way. I will use the following story as an example of how a sentence should be structured. Please pay close attention. On his 74th birthday, a man got a gift certificate from his wife.
The certificate paid for a visit to a medicine man living on a nearby reservation who was rumored to have a wonderful cure for erectile dysfunction.
After being persuaded, he drove to the reservation, handed his ticket to the medicine man, and wondered what he was in for.
The old man handed a potion to him, and with a grip on his shoulder, warned, 'This is a powerful medicine. You take only a teaspoonful, and then say '1-2-3.'
When you do, you will become more manly than you have ever been in your life, and you can perform as long as you want.."
The man was encouraged. As he walked away, he turned and asked, "How do I stop the medicine from working?"
"Your partner must say '1-2-3-4,'" he responded, "but when she does, the medicine will not work again until the next full moon."
He was very eager to see if it worked so he went home, showered, shaved, took a spoonful of the medicine, and then invited his wife to join him in the bedroom.
When she came in, he took off his clothes and said, "1-2-3!"
Immediately, he was the manliest of men.
His wife was excited and began throwing off her clothes, and then she asked, "What was the 1-2-3 for?"
And that, boys and girls, is why we should never end our sentences with a preposition, because we could end up with a dangling participle.
My latest blog is up, entitled "The Tuscon Incident". Give it a read, and be sure to leave a comment. (No signup necessary, you may comment as a guest.)
