Pollster: Pro-Life Republicans Will Take House From Pro-Abortion Dems227-208
by Steven Ertelt
A leading national pollster says his survey of polling data in House races across the country shows pro-life Republicans will retake the House of Representatives from the pro-abortion Democrats who currently control the chamber. Ipsos pollster Cliff Young projects a 227-208 split for the GOP.Should that happen, it would reveal just how frustrated American voters are with the Obama administration and his allies on Capitol Hill, who have promoted abortion extensively, including through the ObamaCare health care reform bill. The analysis comes along with a new Ipsos poll showing voters prefer the Republican candidate in their Congressional district to the Democrat on a 48-44 percentage point margin. The poll also projects Democrats will retain control of the Senate, but on a much narrower 52-48 vote margin than the current 59-41 split they now enjoy. That makes it much easier for pro-life lawmakers to use filibusters to block Obama's pro-abortion judicial nominees and further efforts to promote taxpayer funding of abortion and embryonic stem cell research. The new poll found Obama's own approval mark dropped to 43 percent from 47 percent last month and now 53 percent of Americans disapprove of the job he's doing as president -- the lowest numbers in the Ipsos/Reuters poll since Obama took over the White House in January 2009.Even Democrats nationwide increasingly disapprove as Obama's approval rating with them lowered from 78 to 70 percent.Meanwhile, new polling data released by The Hill today shows Republicans faring well in most of the top House races."Republicans are winning eight out of 10 competitive open House seats surveyed," it reported. "Taken on top of 11 GOP leads out of 12 freshman Democratic districts polled last week, The Hill 2010 Midterm Election Poll points toward 19 Republican victories out of 22 races, while Democrats win only two and one is tied."Congressional Democrats also allowed taxpayer financing of abortions in the nation's capital -- making it so abortions are paid for with federal funds in the District of Columbia for the first time in more than a decade.Democrats in the House also denied pro-life Rep. Chris Smith a vote on an amendment to restore a consistent application of Kemp-Kasten for all organizations the federal government funds, including the UNFPA. That would have stopped the Obama administration from allowing taxpayer funding of the UNFPA, which has been found to be complicit in the forced abortion one-child policies in China.Smith also wanted to offer an amendment to limit international family planning funds to those organizations that certify that they will not perform abortions or lobby for the legalization of abortion. That would have the effect of reversing President Barack Obama's decision to overturn the Mexico City Policy and force taxpayers to fund groups that promote and perform abortions overseas.Democrats prevented a vote on that amendment, too.Republicans, for their part, have pushed the pro-life agenda -- starting with a measure that would repeal the pro-abortion health care bill. They also released their Pledge to America in September and it includes a call for a ban on all taxpayer funding of abortions and an aggressive strike against the ObamaCare law. When it comes to abortion, the Republican "Pledge to America" says "Americans are overwhelmingly opposed to using tax dollars to pay for abortion, and the executive order issued by President Obama in conjunction with congressional passage of the health care law is inadequate to ensure taxpayer funds are not used in this manner."The pledge document calls for a bill to "Permanently Prohibit Taxpayer Funding of Abortion.""We will permanently end taxpayer funding of abortion and codify the Hyde Amendment," the document promises."We will establish a government-wide prohibition on taxpayer funding of abortion and subsidies for insurance coverage that includes abortion, this includes enacting into law what is known as the Hyde Amendment. We will also enact into law conscience protections for health care providers, including doctors, nurses, and hospitals," the draft document says.
The Tea Party is now more powerful than President ObamaByNile GardinerWorldLast updated: September 26th, 2010373 CommentsComment on this articleMembers of the Tea Party rally in Washington (Photo: Getty)Who would have predicted this a year ago? Certainly not the complacent army of White House spin doctors who have failed to grasp, let alone acknowledge, the momentous political transformation that is sweeping America.CNN’s latest pollconfirms that the Tea Party movement has more political clout than the President of the United States in influencing voters during this November’s mid-terms. While just 37 percent of Americans are more likely to vote for a candidate if backed by Barack Obama, a far larger 50 percent will vote for a Tea-Party endorsed candidate.AsCNN puts it:A solid majority of all Americans — 56 percent — say that Obama has fallen short of their expectations. As a result, the president is not in a position to help struggling Democratic candidates; only 37 percent of likely voters say they are more likely to vote for a congressional candidate backed by Obama. In contrast, half of all likely voters now say they are likely to choose a candidate supported by the conservative Tea Party — contributing to the GOP’s 53 to 44 percent lead when such voters are asked which party’s candidate they will choose in November.TheCNN/Opinion Research Corporation pollalso gives President Obama his lowest approval rating so far – just 42 percent, which will be deeply worrying to the White House. This is nearly three percentage points below theRealClearPolitics average of pollswhich currently gives the president a 44.9 percent approval rating, and three points lower thanthe latest Rasmussen Daily Presidential Tracking Poll, which has Obama at 45 percent.Significantly, the CNN poll comes after several days of intense attacks by the Left on the Tea Party in the wake of its surge in the recent political primaries, andreports of a planned campaign by the White Houseagainst the movement. As the assault on the Tea Party intensifies in October, support for it will probably rise even further, with President Obama’s own lacklustre popularity taking a deeper hit.The reason for the Tea Party’s stunning success and President Obama’s equally remarkable decline is relatively simple. A truly popular grassroots movement has captured the fears and concerns of tens of millions of Americans over the relentless rise of Big Government and the growing threat to economic and individual freedom under the Obama administration, while channeling their hopes and aspirations for the future based upon a return to the founding ideals of the Constitution. In contrast, an out of touch presidency that exudes arrogance and elitism at every turn continues to contemptuously spend other people’s money with abandon, building up a crippling debt that will ultimately destroy America’s long-term prosperity if left unchecked. It is a stark choice that the two sides offer, and it’s not surprising that a clear majority of Americans are opting for political revolution rather than the status quo.
THE EVICTION OF 60+ PRO-DEATHER DEMOCRATS SO-CALLED LAW MAKERS ARE NO MORE! ON THE OTHER HAND, 60+ PLUS NEW PRO-LIFE REPUBLICANS LAW MAKERS HAVE TAKEN THE HOUSE AND SENATE, YEAH, BABY YEAH!
I KNOW THERE ARE MANY AMERICANS BELIEVE THERE ISN'T ANY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THESE TWO POWERFUL POLITICAL PARTIES! THAT WOULD DEPEND ON WHAT YOUR FOCUS IS ON!
THE PREMEDITATED MURDER OF THE MOST INNOCENT, ADVOCATED BY MOST DEMOCRATIC LAW MAKERS! THERE IS A MAJOR UNCHALLENGEABLE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY AND THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!
THE LIBERALS ADVOCATED THE SLAUGHTER OF FULLY FORMED BABIES, IT'S CALLED PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION! YOU BABY KILLERS CAN'T DENY THAT HUMAN BEINGS WERE MURDERED BY THIS DEMONIC PROCEDURE!
BILL CLINTON VETOED A BI-PARTISAN BILL TO BAN PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION! IT TOOK THE HATED GEORGE W. BUSH TO SIGNED THE BAN FOR PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION BUT MOST AMERICANS DON'T GIVE HIM CREDIT FOR SAVING BABIES LIVES, GO FIGURE!
OBAMA STATED, "THE BUSH BAN ON PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTIONS IS UN-CONSTITUTIONAL AND NEED TO BE RESCINDED!
THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY HAS A PRO-DEATH PLATFORM, THE REPUBLICAN PARTY HAS A PRO-LIFE PLATFORM. GET IT!
I AGREED THERE ARE TOO MANY SIMILAR THINGS ABOUT THE TWO PARTIES AND THEIR POLITICIANS!
HOWEVER, GOVERNMENTAL SPONSORED MASS MURDER OF BABIES IS NOT ONE OF THEM, IT'S ALWAYS BEEN ALL DEMOCRATIC PARTY!
PLEASE DON'T HAVE ME TO PROVE WHICH PARTY HAS BEEN THE MOST RACIST IN AMERICAN HISTORY, MAKE ME MAD I WILL!!!
For Democrats on Abortion, Votes Have Consequences
by Maura Butler | Washington, DC |LifeNews.com | 11/4/10 5:02 PM
An historic election day has left us with a most promising pro-life majority in the House of Representatives.
The bellwether health care bill separated the sheep from the goats and gave the best legislative indication of real pro-life heroes — and those who gave lip service but betrayed their constituents.
They can’t say we didn’t warn them; votes have consequences.
Fifteen out of twenty self-described pro-life Democrats were defeated on Tuesday sending a clear message that Americans don’t want their hard-earned tax dollars funding abortions through surreptitious legislation like Obamacare. Pro-life voters across the country sent their Representatives who betrayed them packing and replaced them with authentic pro-life leaders who will actually vote pro-life across the board.
Those defeated include Brad Ellsworth (IN-SEN), Steve Driehaus (OH-01), Kathy Dahlkemper (PA-04), Bart Stupak (Retired, MI-01), Alan Mollohan (Primary defeat, MI-01), Baron Hill (IN-09), Paul Kanjorski (PA-11), John Salazar (CO-03), Jim Oberstar (MN-08), Bob Etheridge (NC-02), John Boccieri (OH-16), Chris Carney (PA-10), John Spratt (SC-05), Ciro Rodriguez (TX-23), and Charlie Wilson (OH-06).
During the SBA List “Abortion is NOT Health Care†tour earlier this year, we stood outside district offices across Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania and encouraged pro-life Democrats to stand with their constituents and vote against any health care bill that contained taxpayer funding for abortion.
We told them that we were prepared to defend them if they stood with us, but on the flip side, would defeat them if they caved. Cave they did and sealed their fate by their own vote.
Our lone stalwart and true pro-life Democrat Rep. Dan Lipinski from Illinois, who held fast and did not support Obamacare, won his reelection, proving once again that votes have consequences.
Now our work continues to hold the newly elected feet to the fire and make good on promises to pass pro-life legislation like the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act†introduced by Congressmen Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Dan Lipinski (D-IL), establishing a consistent and permanent government-wide ban on taxpayer funding of abortion.
And the “Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act†introduced by Congressman Mike Pence (R-IN) to ensure that our tax dollars don’t go to organizations that perform abortion, like Planned Parenthood, through Title X family planning grants. Let’s keep the victory moving forward.
New Republican House Leaders Likely Uniformly Pro-Life
by Steven Ertelt | Washington, DC |LifeNews.com | 11/3/10 5:37 PM
In the day after a banner election year for pro-life advocates and the Republican Party, which took over the House from pro-abortion Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her allies, GOP lawmakers appear likely to select pro-life advocates as their leaders.
John Boenher, the Ohio congressman who was the Republican leader during Pelosi’s reign and who led the efforts against the pro-abortion ObamaCare bill, will likely become the next Speaker. He has been effusively praised by key pro-life leaders from groups like National Right to Life and Americans United for Life for his heartfelt pro-life views.
Boehner will likely be voted speaker by his party when Congress returns on November 15 and he will quickly use the position as a means of countering the pro-abortion agenda of President Barack Obama.
“We hope President Obama will now respect the will of the people, change course, and commit to making the changes they are demanding,†Boehner said. “To the extent he is willing to do this, we are ready to work with him.â€
His top lieutenant has been pro-life Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia, who also maintains a sterling pro-life voting record, and he will likely move up the ladder to become the House Majority Leader, replacing pro-abortion Democrat Steny Hoyer of Maryland.
The first change to top leadership structure wil come in the number three position, currently held by pro-life Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana. Pence announced today he will step down from any party leadership post as local Indianapolis media outlets indicate it appears he will run for governor.
That means the number three and four positions — majority whip and conference chairman — are likely to become the subject of races within the GOP caucus, but it appears many of the candidates seeking those important policy-guiding spots are pro-life.
Among the candidates for both jobs are pro-life National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Pete Sessions of Texas, pro-life Chief Deputy Whip Kevin McCarthy of California, pro-life Conference Vice Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington, and Rep. Michele Bachmann, a Minnesota pro-life advocate with a national reputation.
McCarthy, who helped recruit candidates for the House and crafted the pro-lifePledge to America calling for no taxpayer funding of abortions and a repeal of ObamaCare, has already said he would run for the majority whip post and Sessions has expressed interest as well.
Bachmann indicated today she would be running for the number conference chairman position in the House when Republicans choose their leaders later this month.
On her Facebook page Bachmann wrote, “I am pleased to announce that I am running for Chairman of the House Republican Conference! Constitutional Conservatives deserve a loud and clear voice in leadership!â€
Texas Republican Jeb Hensarling, a pro-life advocate who is the former chairman of the conservative Republican Study Committee, is considering running for Pence’s position as well, which becomes the number four spot under a majority.
Hensarling has been endorsed by Cantor but having Bachmann serve as conference chair would send overtures to women voters and signal to more strogly pro-life conservatives that Republicans heard their election message.
McMorris Rogers, the vice chair of the Republican conference, is said to be considering staying in her post, which becomes the number five position.
Looking at some of the key committees in Congress, Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, who is pro-life and well-respected by GOP members, will likely become the chairman of the Budget Committee while pro-life Republican Lamar Smith of Texas is expected to become the chairman of the Judiciary Committee.
The battle for the helm of the Appropriations Committee could become a fight between Jerry Lewis of California, the current ranking member, and Hal Rogers of Kentucky, a pro-life advocate.
On the Senate side, no changes are expected in the top leadership posts, where pro-life Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky is the Minority Leader and pro-life Sen. Jon Kyl of Arizona is the Minority Whip.
Pro-Life Advocates Capture House of Representatives, Topple Pro-Abortion Pelosi
by Steven Ertelt | Washington, DC |LifeNews.com | 11/3/10 10:42 AM
Abortion advocates will no longer control the House of Representatives as pro-life candidates won nationwide and Republican gained far more than the 40 seats needed to win.
Republicans won 20 additional races above and beyond the amount needed to become the majority party in the chamber and wrest control from pro-abortion Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
They will take over the House of Representatives in January with their largest majority since the 1940s. When they ran the House from 1995 to 2007, GOP lawmakers never had more than 231 seats and, after Tuesday, they will have at least 240 seats — most of them pro-life.
The last time they held as many seats was the 80th Congress of 1947 to 1949, when they controlled 246 seats.
In leadership elections expected down the road, most political observers believe pro-life Republican Leader John Boehnerwill become the next Speaker of the House and pro-life lawmakers will also likely win other top leadership positions to be able to set the agenda on abortion and bioethics issues.
“I’ve spent my whole life chasing the American Dream,†a joyfully tearful Boehner told supporters Tuesday night. “When I saw how out-of-touch Washington had become with the core values of this great nation, I put my name forward and ran for office.â€
House Republicans are expected to make an attempt to repeal the abortion-funding ObamaCare law and to consider measures to weaken or defund it knowing President Barack Obama won’t sign repeal legislation.
They are also expected to approve a new bill that would stop taxpayer funding of abortion at all levels of the federal government — forcing Democrats in the Senate and Obama to decide whether they want to contravene the will of the American people further, as every poll shows most Americans oppose tax-funded abortions.
Pelosi won her bid for re-election to a 12th consecutive term Tuesday night in her liberal San Francisco district, but she will have to hand over the reins of the House. In comments following the result tallies, she appeared to not understand the implications of election night.
“The outcome of the election does not diminish the work we have done for the American people,†Pelosi said in a statement after Republicans won control.
But Kristan Hawkins of Students for Life of America told LifeNews.com the results were a clear reaction to the pro-abortion health care bill Pelosi moved through the House.
“The American people have overwhelmingly voted for Life and against the taxpayer-funded abortion agenda in Washington,†she said. “Voters sent a clear message to the Obama Administration to not only listen to the pro-life will of the people, but to stop the corruption and arrogance in our nation’s capital.â€
“I look forward to working with the incoming pro-life Congressmen and Congresswomen to create and promote a culture of Life in our country,†she added.
Father Frank Pavone, the director of Priests for Life, told LifeNews.com the election results provided a huge boost for the pro-life movement.
“Last night was a great night for the pro-life movement. New pro-life Governors, Representatives, Senators, and state legislators across the nation have won victories,†he said. “I am grateful to the Vote Pro-life Coalition and to all who worked so hard to inform their fellow citizens and get them to the polls.â€
He said now is the time to begin contacting elected officials and urging them to move pro-life legislation forward.
“Now let’s communicate with and encourage our newly-elected officials, and work with them on the specific initiatives that will need our help,†he said.
Exit Polls: Pro-Abortion Health Care Reason for Big Pro-Life Election Wins
by Steven Ertelt | Washington, DC |LifeNews.com | 11/3/10 1:20 PM
Look no further than the health care reform bill that allows for taxpayer funding of abortions as the reason why so many pro-life candidates won elections to federal and state offices on Tuesday.
National exit polling results of 17,000 voters from some of the more competitive states nationwide showed 48 percent of Americans want the health care law repealed and even those who disagree supported Republican candidates anyway.
Some 86 percent of those who support repeal backed GOP candidates while 30 percent of those who want the law left in place did as well.
The votes left many pro-life Democrats who backed the pro-abortion health care bill on the outside looking in after the votes came to pass.
Pro-life voters across Indiana, Ohio, Minnesota and Pennsylvania sent their representatives home like Steve Driehaus, Kathy Dalhkemper, Jim Oberstar, and Brad Ellsworth.
“We can’t say they didn’t have fair warning,†said Marjorie Dannenfelser of the Susan B. Anthony List.
“On our “Abortion is NOT Health Care†tour earlier this year, we stood outside their district offices and encouraged them to stand with their pro-life constituents and to vote against any health care bill that contained taxpayer funding for abortion. We told them that we were prepared to defend them if they stood with us, but on the flip side, would defeat them if they caved,†she said.
“We couldn’t let these turncoat representatives get away with abandoning the pro-life movement after voting for the largest expansion of government-backed abortion since Roe,†she added.
The American Center for Law and Justice issued a statement LifeNews.comreceived calling on the Republican-controlled House to pass a bill to repeal pro-abortion ObamaCare.
“The outcome of this election underscores the fact that most Americans don’t believe this country is on the right track and want a change from President Obama’s failed policies of the past two years,†said Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel. “In addition to jobs and taxes, voters sent a powerful message about ObamaCare, the government-run, pro-abortion health care law forced on the American people.â€
“Most Americans have said they want ObamaCare repealed. And, now with a sweeping change in Congress, it’s time to do just that. The fact is with the outcome of this election – along with growing opposition to ObamaCare – this is the perfect time to act legislatively and repeal the health care law,†he added.
The exit polling data also found 54 percent of voters disapprove of the job pro-abortion President Barack Obama is doing while just 45 percent approve. Voters approving of Obama backed Democratic candidates while those who disapprove supported Republicans and they did so in about equal margins.
Some 37 percent of Americans said their vote was designed to express opposition to Obama and 52 percent said his policies would hurt the country.
“America sent a loud and clear message at the polls yesterday. Voters said that President Obama’s pro-abortion agenda—the most pro-abortion in history—is taking our nation in the wrong direction,†said Brad Mattes of the Life Issues Institute.
“This past Congress and the President forced pro-abortion ObamaCare down our throats and inflicted considerable damage on our nation. It’s heartening to see the voters fighting back. They have the final say,†he told LifeNews.com.
