shaded under dusty olives, enough gardening to cultivate your Latin roots,...

in response to ~ “Dilettante, dilatare, delectare.” ~ and other treasured comments left for Alhambra

shaded under dusty olives, enough gardening to cultivate your Latin roots, or:  Lutra lutra

imperator, mea culpa

ignorant of command, innocent and contrite

iam not unwilling, but yes, distracted

and have neglected

awash in surf, and singing

treading water in salty legacies

but, stay! tarry! linger!

heeding imperatives

go! go! go!

importunate entreaties

I'll expand and

dive! dive! dive!

5 full fathoms, thallisinus, my chest on fire

trailing kelp to seek out treasure

each kick propels me in desire

non sequitur, lector

not to follow the reader

secuutus

he will be seeing

what is enigma within crusted abalone

prised open reveals iridescence

revolving to the surface, bursting

backstroke, tethered, this otter plunders

secret, tender flesh all briny

- I sink my teeth in -

tantillus, ligua delectata

and lick, delicious

to slake my lust with something shiny

- kmf (RedSonja, aka RunswithScissors)

and

iridescent → inreto: irreto:

ensnared, entrapped, entangled

and happy as a clam

encountering others willing to contemplate our own navels

another from the weekend: Alhambra
Posted On 05/22/2013 03:27:38

Alhambra

a stranger in the seraglio

behind pierced screens

of story-spells carved

in pale white marble

enclosing the baths

you watch me

through perfumed fragrant steam

breathless, but not replete

a brand new odalisque, I

beckon the palace eunuchs

to trace your words

in henna

upon my palms and feet

sated

with play

with canto et respondu

- kmf (aka RedSonya)

written in response to a lovely comment, itself a poem. so on one level, this is also about writing . . .

a poem, for Sunday morning: languid
Posted On 05/22/2013 02:53:47

languid (mornin' Sweeting)

mornin', Sweeting:

dawn's faintest glow

sparrows chorus

a hint of contrails heard

in their unseen wake

eyes closed

denied, the day

and conjured, invoked

at the lightest touch

a whisper

of sueded silk and soft cottons

warm, sacred breath

sweet bed-scent

stretching, turning

into my velvet pillow

I breathe in

where lately you lay

FIRE
Posted On 05/21/2013 06:35:59

FIRE

Packed in like sardines

with our luggage

more than needed

the newbies, jet-lagged and agog

supplies and groceries, enough for weeks

tucked into every crevasse

seven, altogether, in the Rover

lurching down the highway

at the end of the dry season

from Bolívar, to Guri

across la Gran Sabana

overladen, hot

And the selva smoldered

where smoke plumes echoed

lightning's ghosts

more substantial even than the general haze

Little white crosses

everywhere

clustered like crocuses

but with plastic flowers

where the dead were remembered

And arrived, half a day into a two-hour trip

with our tires on

fire

Accidental Gems

Perfectly Accidental Gems

at the International Machine Tool Show

Tiny beads of lucent moisture

seined from this Chicago fog,

strung carelessly on gossamer:

artless, stranded silken spars.

Weather, mood and spider labour,

in urban stillness, collaborate:

diamonds in the gutter—Ahh!

dawn’s ephemera—seen here, now.

Come Near, My Love
Posted On 05/21/2013 05:44:18

Come near, my love

Meet me for an outing, a picnic

I humbly offer

my cooking beats my spelling

hands down, we can peel each other

grapes, while you toss the word-salad

I’ll dress it with our discarded opera gloves

and boot ribbons

saucing your stochastic greens

then may sing you to sleep

reciting Urdu poems, too ridiculous for English

(Poets. Such naked, shy folk.)

Tantric Yoga

Tantric Yoga

Annoyed. Not at any one:  generally irritable.

I tell myself that acquisition of patience, the suspension between desire and attainment, is in itself the goal. Like Tantric Yoga.

My cursor disappears.  I hover the mouse, awaiting the hand's return, ever reaching but never touching. Even the dreaded "Page(s) unresponsive" is ... unresponsive, with invitation neither to kill it (probably a good thing), nor to wait. Seeking to own the abstract, absent art in a gallery full of negative space.

This will improve me.

The altar before an inscrutable, elusive deity laid with my offering of electrons, gone before I settle them amongst all the marigolds. Freckles carried off by improbable cheetahs in the temple of Isis. I could calculate obiesance's mass only, not position, having changed things with my glance.

Browser relaunched. A frisson of smokey friction.

Focus.

sensible shoes / burnished love
Posted On 05/21/2013 03:39:53

sensible shoes / burnished love

sensible shoes kicked off in the foyer

reclining across the overstuffed

furnishing our shared liebesraum

by turns hitched to helios

or bathed in lunacy

a lipstick kiss left on a mirror

love burnishes the glass

of twelve hours

forever separating us

- kmf (RedSonja)

Author’s Note:  For whatever reason, after I wrote this, I could not unthink C.S. Lewis’s take on Beauty and the Beast;  suggesting for me every fairy tale I’d ever read (and there were a lot of them) with cursed lovers, forever separated;  in my imagination, an archetype fitting for the context of modern barriers:  alternating shift-work, distant time-zones, or the arbitrary borders of country, kith and kin.

(Wine and Roses)

(Wine and Roses)

Pan comes piping

cloven hooves high-steppin' it

white flutter-by maidens

ring in on the changes

enchanted

in the glade of interleaved

filtering a sun-dappled glen

where she sits composing

a secret audience

the river laughing

nearby harmonizes

with tiger-lilies and tickled trout

swimming against the beat

cricket castanets drone

keeping rhythm, beating time

and time has flown

the knave of hearts fans out across

into sweet loamy detritus

no rake for the leaf litter

swept up by the breeze

green premature fox-grapes

remember last year's mead

on her tongue

unnoticed

her heart past overfilling

bursts, showering icewein

over untamed english roses

cascading a wild trellis

late to the dance

a ragged soul takes flight
