None of us are immune from these clammy shadows Of ghosts that pursue us from our long, long agos With draughty whispers teasing our ears at night Leaving as quickly as we are seen to take fright Well gone before any help comes to hand Nothing left for others to grasp and understand
So under the protective tent of covers we go At least that way our googly eyes will not show Nor our ears be subject to more chillsome words For ghosts may go through walls but not sheets I've heard Else-wise how could so many wear a sheet as they prowl With the shape of their grim faces mostly set in a scowl
So carry a sheet if you wish to be safe To render them powerless while you escape And maybe they'll be captured in a quick snap Mobiles are so very handy for that Will you get bolder and tie the sheet in a knot Then call the papers to see what you've got...

Halloween is here tonight, and all will seek to brave a fright, as people come and people go, wherever pumpkins are on show...
The sweets are rattling in the tin, what flavours are to be had within, and who has worn the scariest mask, as midnight comes that's what we ask…
Back home the children all wear smiles, their feet aglow from walking miles, and as they drink some heated milk, it slides inside as smooth as silk…
Older folk stay up past the witching hour, the fright fest doesn't make them cower, indeed they jest as they watch once more, and maybe one or two will snore…
Soon the candles start to die, their last flickers may bring out a cry, as the fun is over until next year, we all love to play safe - with fear!

Hoping to find you in my arms come the break of dawn, it's time we were paired as two singles newly reborn, with the love in our true hearts in unison we'll always be, together here on earth and then for all eternity...
Be in my arms in the morning for every day after this, sure not of any riches but of a true lovers gentle bliss, with iced tea in the sunshine when it passes our way, and hot coffee to warm us on every cold winter's day...
There'll be warming massages to ease any aches, and laughter when we look back at any silly mistakes, we'll take picnics in woodlands to witness the spring, and lie back together as all the courting birds sing...
Let's drive into those mists around old Loch Ness, and see if we can spot the monster of that address, then linger with a tipple by the fireside of a local hotel and know that no one ever lived even half as well...
For fortunes not in the things that we own or we wear, but in the beauty of a pairing that just we two can share, it's the meeting of minds and the rhythm of our two hearts, that makes up for the past which gave us some false starts...
In the end of time there will be no bonds stronger to recall, than the one that we'll share, a boast that's surely not small, but to seek out perfection is not a crime by any means, just a determination that we will live out all our dreams...

Pray dream of wondrous places where inspiration grows on trees And jangles ever more in a soft warm scented breeze Where all of us that ever once paused to write Will find some inspiration accosts us in the night When dreams portray through swirling mists The true passions of a lovers kiss And so can bring more than prose to those Who strain to see up on their tip toes The wonders of a new bloomed rose That's growing there behind the wall We couldn’t climb when we were small... Sweet dreams I sanction for all who scribe Those who create must not be denied A vision from whence they cast new scenes Painted in rhyme from those eery dreams Take sustenance and candles long Behold the words that flow upon The parchment, screen or paper pad With quill or type or pen we're glad To find the steady pass of time Does not our spirits undermine As long as ever we may sit and write For all our days and flicker filled nights… ©Rhumour February 6th 2009

His eyes grew vivid late at night Their glow once seen gave many a fright Bright green and close set together Out and about in all kinds of weather
Ginger hairs were sometimes found Where some victims lay on the ground Forensic men could not be sure Who left those bodies by the door
And still the corpses came most days Bitten in some frightful ways Could none apprehend this lithesome killer Whose habits were a real life thriller
Then as the dawn edged into view Our culprit knew what he must do Slinking to his secret hideaway Until the next night takes away the day
Yet though some tried to see quite where None had ever found his darkened lair In amongst the cobwebs others dread That ginger tom cat in Joe's old potting shed...

Posted as a mark of respect to my Uncle whose funeral was held today
Sombre words and platitudes, I guess we've heard them all. In the darker days we gather, to say our byes and to recall, the best times we remember, with those that have now passed, with those with whom we laughed…
Another day, another dollar, another day, yet more dolour.
Merciless time takes it's toll ever more, though we strive to make the best we can from whatever it is we have to hand, ever praying that something will go to plan, ere we see our journeys end, ere we all cease to pretend…
Weary days, filled with haze, weary days, lost in life's maze.
Illusions held within hearts & minds, cloud our vision like tattered blinds, we seek to peer through ragged tears, but we're still no clearer on our fears, all are taking on that great unknown, so few have the future shore been shown…
Future days, future rain, Future smiles and future pain.
And in the darker days we'll gather, to say our goodbyes and to recall, all those dear friends that left before us, all of their deeds, both big and small…

There was a young guy who was smitten with a very pretty girl who lived across town, but he was a bit shy and also was very aware he wasn't a great 'catch', being from the poor side and having a lowly job.

But he plucked up courage to try and ask her out and she said yes, so he set about planning his approach. He figured a nice bunch of flowers, some chocolates and tickets to see a show might be enough to make an impact, and he took out his small savings to buy those.

The day came for his date and so he set out with the tickets, the chocolate and the flowers, walking across town to save on fares.

Along the way he became aware that the heat was rather high, and he had to open his shirt collar. He walked on and still the temperature rose as the sun was at it's highest - but then to his horror he realized that the expensive chocolates were melting and were plainly ruined.

There was nothing for it, he would have to leave those behind, so he gave them to some children who saw he was about to place them in a waste bin - they smiled and thanked him, not worrying that their fingers would soon be very sticky...

On he walked and as he passed the theatre, he saw an old couple coming out, talking sadly about how the cheaper tickets had all been sold - they were aware they might not get another chance to see the show as it was soon moving on to a city many Kms away. He was touched by their situation and offered them his tickets, knowing that he would get another chance to see a show. They were delighted at his generosity and the smiles on their faces lifted his spirits.

He walked on and came to a cemetery where visitors were tending to the graves of their loved ones - many people had died the year before when a tsunami had struck the town, but he saw some people had no flowers to leave on the graves, so he offered the flowers he was carrying to them and was deeply touched at their gratitude.

By now he had only the bunch of green ferns that had come with the flowers, but somehow he felt it was ok, the walk had opened his eyes to the needs of others and the very temporary (and sticky) nature of chocolates.

He walked on and soon saw the pretty girl sat on the park bench where they had agreed to meet. She smiled and that helped him to overcome his shyness and tell her all about the events as he had walked across town - she smiled at him and said, "Hey, that was really good of you to help those people - and listen, chocolates are certainly nice, but a girl can't eat many for fear of getting fat, lol".

Well, he said, I do have one thing left, and he gave her the bunch of greenery that he had been holding behind his back until then.

'Great!" said the pretty girl, "You do understand girls then." He was slightly puzzled by this , but she smiled and told him, "Look, it's true what they say, like in the song too - girls just want to have fern!"

They both burst out laughing and so began their romance, walking hand in hand through the park in the sunshine, chatting freely without any of the shyness that he had worried so much about.

And the moral of the story is, no matter how much or how little you have, all that really counts is kindness and honesty.

My body is just a shell that I wear, how it looks I have scarcely a care, for I have no sight to cause me pain, or make me view you with any disdain.
I'm told I have a colour but what does that mean, perhaps it's like the flavours that I taste in ice cream, I like the taste of all of those that I've ever yet tried, vanilla, coffee & chocolate, they slide smoothly inside.
I come from some place where we all sound the same, a Yorkshire accent rich with pride, always heard at the game. My friends tell me where the ball flies and excitement grows, they all share that with me and the fun shared really shows.
Mohammed, Ralph and Joseph, Kaldeep and Ahsan, they all come from Bradford, in boyhood and man, we'll eat roast beef and Yorkshire puds down at the pub, or maybe samosas and curries in the working mans club.
I've heard of this race thing, but for me it is just fine, some win at 100 metres, others take some more time, in my world it is better than for some I've been told, where race can be seen as bad but just why leaves me cold.
Would the world be much better if no one could see, and all could be friends with any race just like me, for I enjoy the company of the diverse people who share in this melting pot of cultures where so many show they care...

ONE WORLD SOON
One hope I have for my children No hunger or fear in their lives Every parent wants this, so that is no surprise
When will the world meet in honesty Openly plan an end to all poverty Remove the crowns from the commerce kings Let morality stand proud within all our tradings Don't let it take too long my friends
Seek friendship and sincerity through deeds Open dialogue so we can know each others needs Only when we understand each other well can New beginnings be made that will go to plan
