Tree of Life
Hebrew bible/Christianity
The Tree of Life is mentioned in the Book of Genesis, in which it has the potential
to grant immortality to Adam and Eve, in Proverbs where it's a simile for a blessing.
A Tree of Life, in the form of ten interconnected nodes, is an important part of the Kabbalah.
Kabbalah is considered, by its followers, as a necessary part of the study of Torah
-- the study of Torah (the Law of God) being an inherent duty of observant Jews.
As such, it resembles the ten Sephirot.
Etz Chaim, Hebrew for "Tree of Life",
is a common term used in Judaism. The expression, found in the Book of Proverbs, is figuratively applied to the Torah itself.
Etz Chaim is also a common name for yeshivas and synagogues as well as for works of Rabbinic literature.
Further, it is also used to describe each of the wooden poles to which the parchment of a Sefer Torah
is attached.
According to Jewish law, a sefer Toraha is a copy of the formal Hebrew text of the Five Books of Moses.*********************************************

You live like this, sheltered, in a delicate world, and you believe you are living. Then you read a book, or you take a trip, or you talk and you discover that you are not living, that you are hibernating. The symptoms of hibernating are easily detectable: first, restlessness. The second symptom(when hibernating becomes dangerous and might degenerate into death): absence of pleasure. That is all. It appears like an innocuous illness. Monotony, boredom, death. Millions live like this(or die like this) without knowing it. They work in offices. They drive a car. They picnic with their families. They raise children. And then some shock treatment takes place, a person, a book, a song, and it awakens them and saves them from death. ~Anais
