A Buddhist Poet's Dilemma
The path the Buddha teaches us?
That we're part of a whole
And not a solitary entity
Cast in a starring role,
That every thought and action taken
Sends ripples all around,
That every word we've spoken
Will leave behind a sound.
I've tried to wean myself from mirrors
But it never seems to work,
'Cause every time I see my shadow
I come to with a jerk.
I've tried to pull away from self-"is"-ness
And embrace the Vast Abyss,
But this annoying little tag-a-long
Keeps causing me to miss!!!!
I take it for nocturnal walks
To lose it in the night,
Vainly hoping to be free of self
If it is out of sight.
Yet, with every step and turn I take,
I sense that it is near.
And every time I walk into the Light
My shadow reappears!!
How can one find the Harmony
In resonating Cosmic Strings,
Embracing just the Moment,
When tied to such a thing?
How can I open up my mind
Into the Universal Song
When even Matter forms a Mirror
Which reflects that "I" belong???
I turn to Words to seek a Path
Where I can Understand
A simple way to lose my "self"
Before "I" gets out of hand!!
But with every phrase that's written
There's a line tied to Perception
That can't exist without a "me".
"I" can't escape in that direction!!!
~As always~
I soon find that I
Am sitting by the See,
Drawing cryptic doodles
In the sand
That have no meaning,
But to me.
In all my years of searching
I've found
No Universal Truths to help
The inevitable back-sliding
Every time "I" find
My "self".
