Do you feel like this could happen to you?

I try to stay away from poolrooms. These stories are so sad...

It happens so often...

Love always, Annette, "That's All!"

Annette Hanshaw - True Blue Lou (1929)

Down in the poolroom
Some of the gang were
Talking of gals they knew
Women are all the same, said Joe

Then one dizzy bird
Said, pal, ain't you heard
The story of True Blue Lou

Listen and get an earful, Joe
While I remind you she was
A dame in love with a guy
She stuck to him
But didn't know why

Everyone blamed her
Still they all named her
True Blue Lou

He gave her nothing
She gave him all
But when he had
His back to the wall

Who fought to save him
Smiled and forgave him
True Blue Lou

He got a break and went
Away to get a new start
But poor kid, she never got a break
Except the one way
Down deep in her heart

Maybe somewhere
In heaven up above
There's a reward
For that kind of love

Angels won't blame her
They too will name her
True Blue Lou...

Are you hungry?

How do you like your eggs?

Do you like, them "over easy," "sunnyside up," "poached," "scrambled," in an omelette? You name it!

How about side dishes? Ham? Bacon? Your choice!

Orange juice, tomato, whatever!

Coffee, tea, milk, or another choice?

My door is ALWAYS open, come on in!

I'll be here after 9 A.M. so don't be late as I may run out!

For now I'll sing you my song of love!

Love always, Annette, "That's All!"

Annette Hanshaw sings "Cooking Breakfast for the One I Love" as big band
girl singer for Jack Albin and His Hotel Pennsylvania Music. The song
was recorded January 30, 1930 in New York City and released as Harmony
1105 H. Composers were Billy Rose and Henry Tobias.

The coffee is steaming
Oh boy what I'm dreaming
While I'm cooking breakfast
For the one I love
My baby likes bacon
And that's what I'm making
While I'm cooking breakfast
For the one I love
Our life has been so nice and charming
Right from the start
When I won his tummy, I won his heart
My baby is happy, no wonder I'm happy
While I'm cooking breakfast for the one I love

Morning, I'll be getting up
Morning, I'll be setting up
A tiny table for two
Breakfast, I'll be making his breakfast
He'll be taking his shave and his shower
My happy hour

The coffee is steaming
Oh boy what I'm dreaming
While I'm cooking breakfast
For the one I love
My baby likes bacon
And that's what I'm making
While I'm cooking breakfast
For the one I love
Our life has been so nice and charming
Right from the start
When I won his tummy, I won his heart
My baby is happy, no wonder I'm happy
While I'm cooking breakfast for the one I love

I'm baking a biscuit
He's willing to risk it
While I'm cooking breakfast for the one I love
You're wiping the dishes (what if he breaks a few the dishes)
While I'm cooking breakfast for the one I love
I serve a plate of steaming oatmeal
Taste it but schucks
Who the heck wants oatmeal
Sprinkled with "Lux"?
You can tell that he's grateful
He eats a big plateful
And faints right after breakfast
For the one that he loves!

May I tuck you in, and kiss you goodnight?

The "sandman" will be here very soon!

Just close youir eyes and dream of beautiful thoughts. I'll be here by your side when you need me!

Love always, Annette, "That's All!"

The Japanese Sandman was recorded March 1928 in New York City on the
Pathe and Perfect labels. Annette provides a short vocal refrain for
Willard Robison's Deep River Orchestra. Annette loved working with
Robison and it comes through in this song as well as 3 other Robison
uploads-Smiles, Speedy Boy, and Ain't no Man Worth the Salt of My Tears.
Annette had been providing the vocal refrains for many of Pathe and
Columbia's dance bands since they didn't have girl singers until 1932
when Paul Whiteman hired Mildred Bailey and her success paved the way
for many "Big Band Gals" to follow. In all, Annette made 24 sides as a
dance band singer starting with the Original Memphis 5 in 1927, then Lou
Gold, Ben Selvin, Sam Lanin, Frank Ferera and the Instrumental Stars
(Eddie Lang, Adrian Rollini, Vic Berton and Joe Venuti). She especially
loved working with Eddie Lang whom she called a great musician and a
great gentleman. She hated working with Ferera whom she called a
"bottom pincher". For orchestras that recorded on the Columbia label
and its sub labels, Annette acted as the "girl singer" which was a must
for every reputable orchestra in the late 20s and 30s. She was never a
girl singer outside the studio although any big band leader would have
given their right arm to have had her in their band.
Annette was a much sought after radio personality. In addition to the
show mentioned, she appeared for Coca Cola, Chevrolet, Rexall
Drug Stores, Norge Appliances, and De Soto Automobiles.(Kahal-Wheeler-Fain-Van Loan).

Love always, Annette, "That's All!"

A rare film of Annette Hanshaw now in the Public domain.Hugely popular
jazz singer during the late 1920's and early 1930's.
She was one of those women who was beautiful by just being herself.
A very cool lady who epitomises the age of glamour perfectly.
There has been recently revived interest in Annette with the animated
film Sita sings the Blues, which features performances by Hanshaw.

Annette Hanshaw - Ever Since Time Began I Loved You...

All my life I've been a dreamer of golden dreams
And I hoped that someday they'd come true
There was only one boy in all my plans and schemes
Now I know that boy was you
Ever since time began, I've loved you
And till the end of time I'll care
Ever since stars first shone above you
And just as long as they shine I swear I'll love you
Ever since love was born, I've waited
Knowing that love was made for us two
And though we met just now, in my heart I know somehow
Ever since time began, I've loved you
(Orchestral Interlude)
Ever since time began, my daydreams
All have been filled with thoughts of you
Ever since I first saw the sunbeams
Your smiles have changed all my skies of grey to blue
Ever since I met you, I'm happy
Gone are the cares and troubles I once knew
And since you came along, life is just one happy song
Ever since time began, I've loved you!

Annette Hanshaw Portrait

You may never, know my story...

I hope you will always, remember me...

Love always, Annette, "That' All."

Here is a radio broadcast that pays tribute to Annette Hanshaw, with
commentary from Annette herself talking about her life and career. It
was broadcast over CBC-FM on March 3rd, 1984. in addition to Annette,
you will also hear the voices of Brian Rust, Chris Ellis, John Hammond,
Bill Simon, Jack O'Brien and Lanny Ross.

Annette Hanshaw's date of birth. Was born on October 18th,
'01, making her 24 when she made her first commercial recording, "Six
Feet Of Papa" (released on Pathe 32211, not 1910.

Also, the second illustration in the video (the first shows Annette
with Brian Rust) comes from a radio magazine of the early 30s and states
that she couldn't read a note of music. The was not the case - in fact,
even before she started recording she played from sheet music to
demonstrate new songs for customers in the shop her father owned in
Mount Kisco, Westchester County, New York.
