Happy Easter Happy Trails Blessings

Old German Shepherd
Old Dogs
One day an old German Shepherd starts chasing rabbits and before long, discovers that he's lost. Wandering about, he notices a panther heading rapidly in his direction with the intention of having lunch.

The old German Shepherd thinks, “Oh, oh! I'm in deep doo-doo now!”

Noticing some bones on the ground close by, he immediately settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching cat. Just as the panther is about to leap, the old German Shepherd exclaims loudly, “Boy, that was one delicious panther! I wonder, if there are any more around here?”

Hearing this, the young panther halts his attack in mid-strike, a look of terror comes over him and he slinks away into the trees.

“Whew!,” says the panther, “That was close! That old German Shepherd nearly had me!”

Meanwhile, a squirrel who had been watching the whole scene from a nearby tree, figures he can put this knowledge to good use and trade it for protection from the panther. So, off he goes.

The squirrel soon catches up with the panther, spills the beans and strikes a deal for himself with the panther.

The young panther is furious at being made a fool of and says, “Here, squirrel, hop on my back and see what's going to happen to that conniving canine!”

Now, the old German Shepherd sees the panther coming with the squirrel on his back and thinks, “What am I going to do now?” But, instead of running, the old dog sits down with his back to his attackers, pretending he hasn't seen them yet, and just when they get close enough to hear, the old dog says… “Where's that squirrel? I sent him off an hour ago to bring me another panther!”

Moral of this story…

Don't mess with the old dogs.

Age and skill will always overcome youth and treachery.

B.S. and brilliance only come with age and experience.

Easter is a reminder that even in our darkest hours, there is a light waiting to shine bright. Embrace that inner brilliance and let it guide your path forward.

THE EMPTY BOAT
For every moment you are angry, you lose 60 seconds of happiness. - Anon.

The Parable of the Empty Boat. A monk decides to meditate alone, away from his monastery.
He takes his boat out to the middle of the lake, moors it there, closes his eyes, and begins his meditation. After a few hours of undisturbed silence, he suddenly feels the bump of another boat colliding with his own.
With his eyes still closed, he senses anger bubbling up.
By the time he opens his eyes, he is ready to scream at the boatman who dared disturb his meditation. But when looks, he sees that the boat is empty! It had probably got untethered and floated to the middle of the lake.
At that moment, the monk achieves Self-Realization, and understands that the anger he so righteously feels, is within him. It merely needs the bump of an external object to provoke it out of him. From then on, whenever he comes across someone who irritates him or provokes him to anger, he reminds himself, “This person is merely an empty boat. It's not what's making me angry - the anger is already within me. If I didn't have anger, it wouldn't come out". And then chooses how to respond instead.
Not reacting angrily doesn't mean you don't care about something, sometimes it means you care enough about yourself to walk away. This isn't to say you should never get angry - anger is a part of the human experience and tells you what's important to you.
What I'm saying is, use your anger in positive ways. Channel it in ways that you can both, express it safely and let it fuel your power and determination to create a life and experiences that move you forward. And remember what a wise person once said - anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. I think most of us have to work on this..

"Without really realizing it, Annette had become one of America’s
first recording teen idols even though she wasn’t really a teenager and
had simply been marketed as one. To adolescent boys who bought her sheet
music just to get her image in color she was the girl next door. Her
songs featured her singing the melody calmly without a lot of scat
singing or interpolation and then the incredible backing musicians would
cut loose whenever possible and jazz up the record. She was a quick
study and learned to keep to the melody or bend it a little to fit the
complex orchestrations but she never considered her work to be of the
significant merit of a real musician such as Connee Boswell of the
Boswell Sisters, a prominent contemporary of Annette.

    By sticking
as much as possible to recording and minimizing her personal appearances
and not appearing on Broadway or in the movies, Annette developed an
aura of mystery about herself. In her recordings one can hear that she
is being urged to put more emotion into her vocals but they come across
as laid-back, as if the music swirling around her in all directions
doesn’t concern her at all. The laid-back sound was hot in the later
twenties and early thirties and it is no accident that the number one
male recording star was seemingly easy-going Bing Crosby and the number
one female recording star for a time was Annette."
