Welcome to Saturday
Posted On 09/20/2025 05:48:52

I started to write good morning but after a guick glance at the clock I see it's 12:28 pm... so, good afternoon to you all. I went outside this morning with my mug of coffee to check on the weather and after sitting a while on my deck, I caught myself eying the boards that were cupping and splitting. One in perticular stood out because of the rot. Before long I was on my way to Lowes to purchase new deck boards. By noon I was back home and halfway through with the board replacements. The 90 degree heat was on top of me and that brings us up to now. After a tall cold glass of water I'm here on my laptop letting you all in on my day. I think I'll wait till later this evening to go back out and finish. How are you all doing? I find it hard to just sit around and do nothing. I would have been working harvest but my friend's combine broke yesterday and he's off to Arkansas to get a new part, so no harvesting for us today. It is a beautiful Saturday, and I hope you are enjoying it. I'm going to go work on my next story, novel, book, or whatever you want to call it. My first book was a fantasy about an elf caught up in a human world, and another book was an aventure story about early colonial exploration. This story I'm working on now is a romance. Well, see you all later....

Writing my stories...
Posted On 09/17/2025 02:55:32

It doesnt take much to spark my imagination. The other day as I was on line, I saw a picture that did just that. I quickly jotted down the scene forming in my thoughts, This is all I have right now but I think I can craft it into an enjoyable story. i'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

“The Irishman and The Lady”

Just on the outskirts of a small village along the Irish coast, a beautiful young woman passes by a stone wall where two young men are sitting. With her American as well as her very southern accent, she greets them, but doesn’t stop to talk as she hurries past, making her way into the colorful village.

“Good morning! She says.”

“Good morning?”

“Yeah, Good morning! Where does she think she is?”

“This isn’t her bloody America! I’ve a good mind to…”

“No, Shaun, it isn’t! So what is it you plan to do?”

“Timothy Patrick O’Shea, if it's any of your concern, I plan to marry the girl.”

“The heck you say!”

“Yeah, it’s true, mate! I plan to marry her!”

“She might have a say about that. She doesn’t even know you exist.”

“Believe me, old friend, she will learn about Shaun O’Brien soon enough! Take my word on that.”

“Look, Shaun, there she is!”

“Where?”

“Coming out of the postal. Now’s your chance. Introduce yourself!”

“Don’t rush me, mate! I know how to do things here.”

“Well? What are you waiting for? A personal invitation from her!”

“Leave me alone, Timothy! Your wife needs you back at the house!”

“Mind your manners. Leave my wife out of this conversation.”

“You mind yours! Here comes the lass back this way now.”

“Good morning, boys. Nice day, huh?”

The bright red-headed girl smiled as she walked past Shaun and Timothy, and the boys sat on the stone wall, staring with open mouths. Suddenly, Timothy elbowed Shaun, causing him to fall from his perch. He landed on the cobblestone walk with a thud, causing the girl to stop and turn around. Shaun looked up at Timothy and, with an angry face, scolded.

“Hey! What drove you to do such a thing? Are you daft or something?”

He didn’t see the girl turn around as he finished his rant. But he became aware of her presence when she squatted down and touched his shoulder.

“Are you alright? That’s a nasty fall you took from up there.”

“Yeah, I’m an O’Brien! We are tough! Built tough from the crib, we are!”

She laughed.

“Well, Mister O’Brien, it’s nice you weren’t hurt. I guess I’ll be on my way then.”

“Wait, lass! What’s your name? Maybe stay and chat awhile?”

“Nancy, Nancy Cramer. I’ve got to hurry home, but maybe I’ll see you again sometime, Mister O’Brien. Goodbye. ”

“Oh! You’re the old man Cramer’s niece, then?”

“Granddaughter! Bye now, I must go, Mister O’Brien.”

After a smile and an encouraging wink, Nancy turned and headed down the lane as Shaun balled his fist at Timothy. Timothy laughed, filling his eyes with tears, and immediately, Shaun scrambled over the wall’s loose stones, climbing upward toward his friend.

“Just keep sitting there! I’m coming for you!”

Hello
Posted On 09/13/2025 01:55:14

Gosh, I'm thrilled to have my new friends here on Boomer and hope to reconnect with some friends from Over the Hill. This site is a learning curve for me but I believe nothing I can't overcome. I have had some offers to help, and maybe I'm hardheaded, but figuring things out is fun for me. I love challenges. now with that all said, I'd like to say thank you to all the beautiful friends that have connected with me. I stay pretty busy this time of the year with helping a friend gather harvest. There are many long hours in the farm fields. I drive a tractor and load the big trucks with the corn or soybeans, depending on what is being cut. The combines are huge and require daily service and cleaning. There are different cutting headers for each crop, which are about 36 feet long and attach to the front of the combines. The tractors pull the grain carts and when full are driven along side of the big truck trailers emptying the crop into them. The top of the trailers are open and the trucks then in return haul the crop to grain elevators where they empty through gates under the trailer. The whole opperation is interesting and very tiring. We start each morning around 7 am and hopefully get home by 10 pm. and grab a quick shower before hitting the bed and as far as eating, we eat on the run. harvest time only lasts a few months. At my age now, I may not offer to help next season. Today, we are off work because some of the soybeans are still too green to cut, but in a few days, we will be back at it. Harvest is about over, and in a couple of weeks, I can get back to my writing of my stories and songs. Okay, I'll catch you all later. Have a blessed weekend and do something fun.
