My Mother
Posted On 04/24/2008 09:12:05

My Mother's first name was Margie . She was a kind soul whom never had a mean bone in her body . (unless she was taking a hickory switch to my legs) . I never heard her complain . She worked in the early years in a glove factory near where i live now . She sew gloves . After i was born she became a full time housewife .
She would work in grandpa's cotton fields to help them get the cotton in . She sure knew how to cook them pintos and navy beans . We sure had them three times a week . She never did like cooking possum's when dad would clean one . That was one thing that would keep me out of the house . If you ever cooked a possum you would know why .
Mom loved her Church and read the Bible daily . I always made sure she got to Church after Dad Passed away . They had a Sunday school class that met in a Prayer Circle at different lady's homes each week . She loved that so much .
She did a great job raising my brother and myself . She did without a lot of things so we could have decent clothes to wear to school .
Mom passed away in 1991 on the porch of my great aunts home one bright and sunny day . I didn't get to say goodbye because they wouldn't let me see her . I had went to the Funeral home too see her . She looked so peaceful in her pretty white dress . There was something that just wasn't right though . She didn't have her bible in her hand . I requested a little Bible to be placed in her hands . I loved my Mother and i know she knew . But you know It really hurts deep inside when i go to her grave . It took me years to get the strength to even go near . I guess that is part of the healing process .

I have really enjoyed reading about your wonderful Mother's . Wish every one could post something about their mothers . It would be a wonderful thread to keep and visit from time to time . I hope we can have a thread for our Dad's later on . Thank y'all so much for remembering your Mother's

Washing Machine Like Mom Used

The round one on the right is kind mom used .

My Mom back when i was born used a cast iron tub that she would fire up to wash clothes in then a wash board to scrub them on . One day Dad got Mom a used washing machine . That sure made life a lot easier back then . I would help her wringe out the clothes and if you weren't careful it would drag your shirt or hand clean up to the arm pit . Then you would have to back it out . Sure got a lot of bruses back then . Mom used that washing machine till March of 1970 . I bought us a new 12X60 foot mobile home and got a new modern washer and dryer . That ended the old washer's duty. Mom still hanged out a lot of clothes . We had a dang cat that would back up to them clothes on the line and spray . I guess it was its way of marking things . That cat didn't live nine lives . Also had a dog that would jump and pull them clothes off the line and have them scatred all over the yard . He didn't last to long either . Mom finally give up hanging on line . Sure do miss them days . Guess we all miss a lot of things in life and the memories we shared with our parents and brother and sister's . I never had the pleasure of having a sister to look up too while i was growing up . I have an Aunt named Rachel that was about the same age i was and guess she was like a sister to me . . . . .

Memories Of My Past

My Dream's And A Few Memories Too Share

My Grandparent's

My dreams , my memories of my past are the best thing's in life i can share . I have done thing's in life growing up that i am not prowd of and would have made a better desision if i had the chance to do over . I don't consider myself having a future in life because i live one day at a time . The Lord provides every thing i really need in life . If i die the next breath then i have done as good as i could , I feel peace in myself .
I can remember when my Grandpa said he would pay me for cleaning out the cow stable . I jumped at the chance . He said he would pay me when i got done . So i get up one cool morning and went to the barn with my pitch fork . The barn had two stables and i chose one . I go into the stable and barely had head room to stand up in . So here i go , put my foot one the pitch fork and pushed it in and started pitching the manure out the window . After a little while the steam began rising from the stall . You know that stuff was three feet thick . It took me three day's to get all of it out . When i was done i went up to the house and there sit Grandpa . I told him i had finished . He dug into his pocket and brought out some bills . He handed me three dollars and thanked me . Here i was standinf before him and it took me three days to clean that stall out and all i got was three dollars . I didn't know whether to cry or laugh . I just thanked him and went home .
My Grandma took me to the barn with her one morning telling me i needed to learn how to milk a cow . She brought Susie out of the stable and tied her close to the post . She also tied a brick she had to the tail of that cow . That dang cow still could swing that brick back and forth . I got down on a short stool and put the ten quart gavanized bucket under Susie . I grabed one of her tit's and started to sqeeze . Nothing , I kept working at it and finally got some milk out still having trouble hitting the bucket . Susie kept trying to put her foot in that bucket also . After about thirty minutes or so i finally got the hang of it . That is how i learn how to milk a cow .
Grand ma would put the milk in ice box and each morning she would skim the cream off the top of the milk . When she got enough , she would get her butter churn out and let me churn the cream till it made the butter . It sure did make your arm sore pushing that handle in and out . When done Grandma would pour the contents and wash the butter off with clod water . She had a butter printer that she would pack the butter in and when she would push the butter out it had a pretty design on top . She would sell some of the butter , milk and eggs . Those eggs were really big eggs . They came from big hens . You can't buy egg's like that today .
One time it snowed one night and my uncle come by and asked if i wanted to see if we could track anything in the snow . Well we set out and saw rabbit prints in the snow but never did see and rabbit's . We had gone a long way and came upon a place we called Larel Hill . It had Larel bushes all over the hill and Holly trees with thick red and yellow berries . At the bottom of that hill was a small creek . We were following the creek and saw a screech owl under the bank . We tryed to catch the dang owl and that thing flew out and just missed my uncle's ear . I finally saw a large Robin up in a tree and shot it . My uncle said grandma would eat Robin if we took it to her . So we did . Uncle went home and i stayed there . Grandma cleaned that Robin and boiled it then fried it . She sit there and eat that robin . You know that was the last bird i ever killed . I can't see any reason killing God's creature's this day and time . Unless it is to feed the hungry . Now i'm not talking about our cattle . I got to have a burger once in a while .

My Room

How Not Too Build a Room On a Trailer

This is a true story and it happened back around 1982 .

I was married and had two Daughters . One day i picked up my Daughter's and went home after work . I got home and my wife had moved out and left me a note that she wanted to be free . So i packed up my kids stuff and moved in with mom and dad . I also got full custody of my Daughters .

Things were cramped so i got this idea to build me a room . The room would be built on the back side of a 12X60 foot mobile home . No one could see it from the road , so i didn't get a builder's permit . Since i worked at a Funiture plant that made funiture frames , i asked my employer if i could have a stack of popular boards he had stacked outside that were in reality half rotten . My boss man helped me move that stack of boards . Like a dummy i unloaded them board's away from the trailer .

Well i got out back one morning and started digging out a place where i was going to put my room . As i was digging i found trash bags and some of that stuff don't decay . It took me a while to get that stuff out of there . One of my friend came down to help me start a foundation . I used 5/4 (five quarter) board's for subfloor and all . Well i found out i needed a skil saw . My X brother in law let me borrow his new one . I had never used one before and when i went to cut off that first board i cut the dang cord into . so i got out my trusted duck tape . and taped the cord back together . I got the floor nailed down . I come to realize i needed 2X4's for the studding of the walls .

Off i go to local building supply store . Good 2X4's cost a lot . I noticed they had some over too the side . I asked them how much . Fifty four cent's a piece . I fiqured heck that would be good enough for me . I bought 100 . I was so happy for my great deal i got . So down the road i came . Got them unloaded .

So i get out there one morning and got started . The first one i stould up , when i started to nail it , well it fell apart right at the knot in the 2X4 . I fiqured i could use it for support . I had to get my mom to hold the 2X4 up while i nailed it down . It took me a week before i got the studing for the wall up .

Remember them boards that i unloaded so far of the trailer . I had to carry them one by one over 200 feet to get to the back of the trailer . I started nailing the boards to the studding . Wall looking good now . I got all the sides up and then i realized i needed a window on each wall . Here i didn't leave room in my design for windows . I went to my cousin's house and borrowed his chain saw . A 12 inch Homelight . Never used one of them either . I finally got it cranked and started . Ya know them things kick back at ya . I finally cut through and was cutting really good when sparks fly . I hit a nail . Finally cut through the nail . That dang saw had a mind of it's own it would cut circles . Found out the chain was real dull on one side of chain . Finally got it cutting straght again . I finally got the holes for the windows cut .

Now the roof I used the same five quarted boards for the roof . It went find with some help . Now i had to choose something that would tread water . Building supply i go . Shingles cost too much . I saw these black roll's and the man said that was heavy tar paper . Cheep . I bought a couple roll's and headed home . I finally got on top of the roof and started rolling the tar paper . I soon found out you start from the bottom not the top . Had to tear two layers up and start over . Well i got the top finally covered . Looking good now .

I soon realized i need to put a 4th wall up connecting the room to the trailer . I go buy these 40 penny nails . (A 40 penny nail is around 10 inches long) I got to nailing the big nails into the 2X4's and in to the wall of the trailer . Every thing is going good till i hear mom hollar . No power . Smoke was even coming out of the plugin's . I went into the trailer and looked at the fuse box . It seems i drove one ot those 40 penny nail's clean through the steel fuse box . There it was sticking out . I took my trusty hammer and proceed to knock that nail back through . a few sparks fly but i got it out . I got the power going but a lot of plugin's never worked again after that . Finished the final wall . I looked up there was a large crack at the top . Now i had to find something to seal that crack up to keep the rain out . I buy two five gallon buckets of black tar . That would do it i fiqured . Finally got it spread . I had found a piece of used carpet for 8 dollars . Got it down on the floor , Got my outlets run from the breaker box out side . (that is a story in itself) . I get my bed and tv all moved in and was ready to spend my first night in my new room . I had no heat sorse yet and nearly froze that night because winter was near .

A couple days later we had an ice storm . I got me one of those kerosine heaters . That would keep me warm . Well that heat from the heater started melting the ice on top . Over where i had sealed that crack water had begun running down the wall . I had to peal the carpet back and cut slits in the floor for the water to drain through . Some time during the night (there was a very large oak tree that hung over my room) the ice started to melt and these large ice tags started too fall . You know where i left cracks between the roof boards . Ice tags wer coming clean through the tar paper . Some landing on my bed . I never got much sleep that night for fear a large ice tag would spear me through the chest and kill me . Around day break you could see sunshine showing through all the holes that were punched during the night . the wind got up and blowed the rest of that tar paper off . That night as i lay in bed i could see stars through the crack . Quite romantic i thought but i had to get some thing on the roof to keep the rain out . The next morning i went back to building supply and bought some roll roofing that was like shingles . Got it put on and that kept me dry except that crack between the trailer and room . I finally give up and had to ut my console tv on cement block to keep water from seeping in from the bottom .

I lived in that room from 1983 till 1990 . I bought a double wide Mobile Home for Mom and the Girls So they would finally have a decent place to live .

I hope you ejoyed this story because it really happened . The other project i did was build a 20X24 foot garage behind my new home . No builder's permit either . But that is another story all together .Especially when the roof fell in .

Since i am disabled now i can't do all the neat thing's i used to do but i can dream can't i .

My Life As A Tree

My Life As A Tree

A long time ago i began my life from an acorn . Some how i got sprouted and i began to grow . I noticed i was a long way from the other trees and was all along . I started growing limb's then the green leaves formed . I slowly climbed above the tall grass . Some time passed and soon it began to get so cold . My limb's would shake and i wondered what is happening too me . My leaves began too turn golden in color then turned brown . The wind got up one morning and blew with a mighty howl . All of a sudden my limb's began to shake and my brown leaves went flying . Where did they go i wondered and why . Slowly the cold began to set in and i became so sleepy . I was standing strong . I fell a sleep .
I don't know how long i was a sleep but one day i felt a warm breeze . My roots began to flow and i became strong again . I soon started growing and my limb's got longer and started growing more limb's . My leaves started sprouting , Oh! I felt so full of life . All of a sudden i heard a mighty roar . Something went rushing by me . It was long and a black smoke came from its mighty roar . I soon learned later it was an 18 wheeler . How you wonder how i learned this . This bird came one morning and told me what it was . She said many cars would be in my future .
During that year i experienced many things . I could smell the on coming of a warm summer rain that smelled so sweet . One day a strange animal came by and had four legs . What was it i wondered . It came closer . All of a sudden it threw one of it's legs in the air . I soon felt something hot and kinda burned as it ran down my trunk . Get a way! Get a way i shouted ! Soon this thing went a way . Now i had to wait till another warm rain came too wash that horrible smell .
Soon the things i learned kept repeating . I would always fall a sleep and wake up stronger each year . I now am sprouting acorns . Soon i will learn a new life will be born again and again . I learned this is caused by Mother Nature .

Hope you have enjoyed my little story . It is rare to learn about the life of a tree .

Being Shy

Being Shy In Life & And How It Has Affected Me

When i was young and started going to church around 1957. I would take my bike and there was a path that you could take like a short cut . There was a place on that trail where people in the area said Tom Dooley was hanged . ( There is a song called "The Legend Of Tom Dooley") . Anyhow i would make it to the Baptist Church and i enjoyed going to church . I was skinny and everyone treated me well . After church was over i would ride my bike back home taking the paved road . Soon after in 1960 we moved and that ended going to that church . By then i was getting chunky and that is where my problem of shyness took over . I soon started going to a Methodist Church .
I was so scared of talking to people . I would go to my Sunday school class and they would go down the line and each would read a verse in the Bible . When it was my turn i would try and read my verse . I would stutter and everyone would look my way making me feel like a tiny ant in a huge room about to be stepped on . People would snicker at me . That it self caused me not to go to church much . It affected me later in life about being around people . My shyness has for the most part kept me from attending church like i wanted too . Mom loved going to church and after dad died i would take her out to the little church and go back later to pick her up . One day when i took her out there . Some one had the speaker system turned on . I sit there and listened to the service . by the end of the service i had so many tears flowing . I wanted to be in there but my shyness took over and prevented me from attending .
After my mom died i tried going back to that church and was doing well . I couldn't stand up when the other's did and that played a part later in not going back . I would sing with the rest and maybe some could here me singing and they would turn around and see who was singing . I got to where i would just sing in silence and soon just give up .
I can not say i am a saved person in most people's view of me because i don't attend Church . I was baptised many years ago and do believe i did it for the right reason . My love of God has grown over the years and i do pray . God has provided all the thing's i really need in life and if i didn't get the other thing's then i didn't need them any how . Since i joined eon's my love of God has grown more each day . The friend's i have made and the other member have taken me out of my shell and i feel at ease talking too and all the wonderfull kind word's i get each day keeps me going . I do pray too God that i may some day make it to Heaven where i shall only be judged by God himself .

I know there may be some that do not believe in God and how the earth was created . This was writen from how i feel and believe and for anyone that happens by too read and don't like what i wrote so be it .

Remembering Grandma
Posted On 04/13/2008 01:37:04

My grandma name was Ellen Martin . When i was young but old enough to do things . I would rush down to grandma's house early in the morning . She would be getting up to fire up the wood cook stove . She would get a piece of rich pine . (where me and her would go into the pine thickets and look for pine stumps that over time were full of rich tar that was used for kindlin) Tack a small hatchet and cut into small splinters . Take a match , light it and put it under the wood . That got the fire going . The cook stove had a basin on the side to heat water . The oven would make the best bisquits . She always had a dish of fried tators and green beans to stick between a bisquit . Oh so good . Some times she would fix grits or rice with red eye gravy . Or fry up a little tenderloin .
Grandma would make handmade quilts so rich in color . Her lady friend would come over and all start sewing on the quilt and so much story telling while they sewed .
They had a cow who was so gentle . I would watch her milk and i soon learned how to milk a cow . Now that was something to see . Grandma would take the milk and each morning skim off the rich cream that woul form over the night . When she got enough cream saved , out her butter churn came . I got to churn the milk and make the yellow butter . She had a thing to put the butter in and make a pretty print on top . Grandma would sell the milk , butter and eggs to have spending money .
In the spring they would have a big garden plus acre's of corn , sugar cane for mollassus , acre's of cotton to take to the Cotton Gin . That money is what got them through the hard winters back then . My grandpaw worked in the sawmill later on .
In the evening's we would either set on the porch swing or out in the yard and listen to grandpaw play the Harmonica . Also we all would have contest and see who would fart the longest and laugh so hard you would want to roll on the ground . Oh! those were the days .
After i grew up my Grandmother was the one person i could set and talk to . She acully would sit and listen and give sound advice to me . I never could talk to my Mother like that . Don't know why just couldn't .

Life in General
Posted On 04/05/2008 05:41:52

When i got in High School I couldn't wait to finish school and go to work . Then in 12th grade i quit school half way through the 12th grade (kinda got expelled) . Here i was sitting at home , the world ahead of me . Had a car but had to find a job to pay and get gas for it . I worked numerous jobs over the years . Finally went back to night school and got my deploma . I just couldn't find the right job . Then i got married , still didn't want to work . The old lady didn't either . Then we had a baby on the way . When my first child was born my whole life changed . I found a job that i liked and stayed at that job for 25 years till i got hurt . I really found out God made sure i had what i needed and wanted . If i didn't get some things i wanted then i wasn't meant to have it . I never really had any dreams of my future . This day and time i still don't . I found sex wasn't a big part of my life . Careing for my Kid's was the big part . I have as some would say "been through hell and back" , I have lived with pain , Lost of my parents still haunt's me still . But in all i have had a good life . No regreats . I believe in my Lord and Savior and it grows stronger each day . All this started when i joined eon's . It changed my Life more than you can believe . I found a friend later on called KulBreeze . She has inspired me so much in my life . I bet her Mother is so prowd . Most of my friends are at eon's but i have friends here also . Isn't life grand . We all go through ups and down's in life but it all work's out in the end . I didn't plan on writing this much but when i get started it is hard to stop . Love you all .
