WHAT IS A RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS?
Posted On 09/14/2008 01:56:44

WHAT IS A RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS?
It is:
Running someone's errand
Because they can't go out.
No one has to ask you -
That's what kindness is about.
*
A call or visit to a shut-in,
With compassion and with grace,
Leaves a very loving memory
And a sweet smile on their face.
*
A touch to help another's suffering;
Lending a truly listening ear,
Shows someone really cares for them
And eases loneliness and fear.
*
Kindness shown in anything
Can help to lead the way
For opening up possibilities,
And to brighten someone's day.
*
A random act of kindness,
That came straight from the heart,
Changes another's life so much
And you know you've done your part.
*
You did what needed doing
And didn't sit by on a shelf;
Without a fanfare or pat on the back
You offered up yourself.

FORGIVENESS
Posted On 09/14/2008 01:50:48

FOREGIVENESS
*
Forgiveness will help another;
It will do much more for you.
It frees your heart and opens it
For the things you are to do.
*
It isn't just for actions.
It's for everything deep in your soul.
It lifts your burdens and blesses you;
It lets God make you whole.
*
Sometimes forgiveness seems so hard
For those who've done us wrong.
And in our hearts we tell ourselves
For us they don't belong.
*
At times we think "I won't forgive;
You've hurt me way too much."
That's just the time to turn to God;
He'll help you with His touch.
*
It's not always easy to forgive
The ones who've come our way.
Just remember God has said to us:
"I forgive you every day."
*
God will help us with forgiving.
A lesson's there, you know.
Forgiveness doesn't mean forget.
It just means letting go.

AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE DANGERS OF A MAMMOGRAM??
Posted On 07/18/2008 05:27:18

THIS WAS TAKEN FROM ONE OF MY HEALTH NEWSLETTERS.  The Dr. is right....They HURT!!! and I DO believe they can cause the damage he describes.  It makes sense!

What your spit can tell you about breast cancer

Dear Friend,

Scientists have discovered a new way of testing for breast cancer that could make the mammogram a thing of the past—and it's about time. The test could potentially be far more accurate than the old-school mammograms—not to mention much safer. If this catches hold in the medical community, women can say goodbye to those breast- smashing vise grips. Now, all they'll have to do is open wide and say, "Ahh."

U.S. scientists are developing a breast cancer screening test that checks a woman's saliva for evidence of the disease. They say they've identified 49 proteins in saliva that can actually distinguish healthy women from those with benign breast tumors and those with malignant breast tumors.

According to Charles Streckfus, a professor at the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston, "Breast cancer triggers a change in the type and amount of proteins in the secretions from the salivary glands." And sure enough, when the researchers tested a group of 30 women – 10 healthy, 10 with benign tumors, and 10 with malignant tumors – the protein patterns were found to be different in all three groups.

If this is true, it could finally put an end to what I've considered the most dangerous method of breast cancer screening: the mammogram. Yes, in spite of the many multimedia pushes encouraging women to get mammograms as early as possible, it's long been my belief that these tests have been doing more harm than good.

The reason? What I call "compression syndrome."

Very simply, severe compression of the breast (such as the kind that occurs during a mammogram) can lead to microscopic tissue ruptures – even in the tissue of the tumor. This tear can actually create a "leak" in the tumor, which allows the malignancy to spread and cause an acceleration of the cancer—and an earlier death.

Every doctor knows that breast lumps should be handled with a great degree of care, because handling them roughly could cause such a rupture. It's something that's drilled into your head in med school (or at least it was back in my day).

And any woman who has experienced a mammogram knows that it squashes the breast pancake-flat until it hurts—hardly what I'd call "handling with care."

Of course, the researchers say that more tests need to be done before a saliva screening test based on these findings can become common and widely available. My old friends at the FDA have to weigh in on the subject, and we all know how quickly they move. Streckfus said they would seek the government's approval for the saliva test in the next five years.

So let's say, worst case, it takes the full five years for the approval to be sought. How long do you think it'll take the FDA to get around to actually approving this potentially life-saving test? Three years? Six? Ten? Depends how much money the researchers have to put into political coffers, I suppose.

It's maddening that we live in an age when science can move at a breakneck pace, but our tired, dusty government system is still locked in the days of the horse-and-buggy.

Wouldn't this simple – and surely affordable – spit test solve so many problems? What woman wouldn't sign up to take this screening even in her early 30s, just to be sure— especially when it's known that early detection is the key to survival in the war against cancer.

Help me get the word around about this saliva screening. Maybe we can help enough political juice to get the test approved sooner rather than later.

So mad about mammograms and the FDA that I could spit,

William Campbell Douglass II, M.D.

Poem - In The silence Of The Night
Posted On 06/01/2008 09:39:43

Sometimes we all need to be reminded.  This is one of the poems I was inspired to write, and it's given so much to so many - including me when I re-read it.  I pray it will give you what you need, too.

IN THE SILENCE OF THE NIGHT

In the deepening silence of the night,
When all is still and stars are bright,
Reflect upon God's love for you
And look within to know it's true.
***
When you accept that He is there
You'll see Him 'round you everywhere;
And when you feel life's hard for you,
He'll help you if you ask Him to.
***
If you feel sad and torn apart,
He'll fill the emptiness of heart.
And put a smile upon your face,
So you can show His loving grace.
***
There is no limit to His power.
He's with you in your darkest hour;
When it's so hard to make a choice,
Just listen to His loving voice.
***
And when you think it's all in vain,
He'll lead you from that road of pain.
He'll comfort you and give you rest;
You'll feel His love and know you're blest.
***
When life is full and joyful, too,
He shares your happiness with you.
Show the peace you've come to feel,
So others know His love is real.
***
When you reflect His love for you
In all that you may say or do,
You'll help another on his way
With strength to face a brand new day.
***
In the deepest silence of the night,
When all is still and stars are bright,
Give thanks that He has let you see
That He will ever walk with thee.

Poem on God's Protection
Posted On 06/01/2008 08:22:05

GOD'S PROTECTION

Go over, under, around and through
To reach the One who blesses you.
Be not afraid of the enemy.
You're protected by His Divinity.
***
When you're beset by arrows' slings,
And feel they've torn your fragile wings,
Just stand with God in one accord
And lean upon His sacred sword.
***
With ups and downs; touch and go...
Keep faith, and in your heart you'll know
That in His arms you'll safely abide
And torments and fears are all swept aside.

Poem of Comfort
Posted On 05/31/2008 07:55:22

It took a while after Miss Freckles died before I could write this little poem.  Then I added my drawings of four of my Puppy and Kitty Angels to go with it.  I hope it brings you.....

Some comfort if you've lost a pet....

A POEM OF COMFORT
From Our Pets To Us
Dear Mom and Dad,
We can feel your loss,
For we miss you, too.
You gave us your love
And the best you could do.
~~~~
When we meet again,
How joyous we’ll feel!
For this is His promise
And God’s love is real.
Love,
From your babies.
My absence - More Info.
Posted On 05/30/2008 05:44:41
Questions ..... I don't have legal training, as I mentioned, and I've had to represent myself at each conference and hearing for the last year or so.  This has been a real hardship on me physically, as well as mentally and emotionally!  I have solid proof, with witnesses, that the prosecution's main witnesses lied on the stand = Perjury!  Now, comes the question of how do I proceed - what forms, how and where do I present it, etc. ???
On the abatement ..... It seems that someone REALLY doesn't want me back in the neighborhood, as the prosecution is now asking the judge to order my home to be torn down to the ground, even the slab foundation.  [It can be repaired, which wouldn't take much, and I have help to accomplish this.]  One of their witnesses says there's no other remedy but to tear it down.  I already have proof the code violations they cited were a ruse, one "means to an end"; and when they received one of the rulings they wanted, I received a Notice that they were dropping the code violations part of the suit = more evidence?!  Funny thing ... the codes they cited apply to a business, NOT a single-family, owner-occupied, (residential/household) dwelling.
Prayer needed ..... To bring an attorney to my aid.  He/She will be paid, if he/she won't do it pro bono.   A counterclaim also needs to be filed on my behalf - and there's money for that, as well, or it can be on contingency.    There are so many people here who have had problems with our local set-up of "people in high places", and have been hurt badly.  These "officials" must figure they don't need to follow and obey the laws - City, State or Federal - much less the Constitution and Bill of Rights.  Whoever comes will have plenty of business once my case is over!
I sincerely thank you for your prayers!  Your kind words mean so very much to me!
My absence.....
Posted On 05/29/2008 06:10:59
To say I've missed my friends here would be an understatement!  I can't tell you how much I appreciate your beautiful comments, as they mean so very much to me!  It's nice to know I'm thought of, even when I don't check in and say hello to you, and especially with all that's been going on in my life .  I just want you to know you do make a difference!
Since I don't usually blog about my personal life that much, I'm not sure where to begin.  I guess I'll start with a time in August of 2006 when I fell and broke my wrist.  It was a twisted mess, there was nerve damage, and the tendon in my thumb was torn.  After having surgery (with three pins inserted) and spending five weeks in a cast, about a week later it was obvious it hadn't healed right, as the bones had clearly shifted close to where they had been.  What makes it more difficult to live with is the fact that it's my right hand and I'm right handed.  I've needed more surgery to fix everything since October of that year, and have pain every day, especially if I accidently bump it or use it too much at a time.  I cancelled/postponed the two surgeries set up at the end of 2006.  The delay?  That's another part of the story.
This part of the story is still puzzling to me...  Less than 18 hours after my surgery (at about 9 AM) there was a knock at my door.  I'd had a pain filled night and little sleep because of it.  (I had arrived home about 8 PM the night before, after a 2-1/2 hour trip from Tucson, took care of my furbabies, and tried to unwind and calm the pain in preparation for bed.)  To continue...when I asked who was at my door, I heard "Police."  When I opened my door, you would have thought there was some dangerous criminal in the neighborhood.  There were 6 people on my doorstep, 2-4 in my yard, and another few just outside my yard's gate...some in uniform and some in plain-clothes.  When I asked what was wrong, I was told there had been complaints from my neighbors. and they needed to come in my home to check things out.  They refused to say what kind of complaints.  NOTE:  NO ONE HAD ANY PAPERS OF ANY KIND! I told them "No" at least 3 times, (They said there was a search warrant sitting on a judge's desk ready and waiting to be signed.),  and at one point I closed the door.  After much banging on the door, threats being shouted, and scaring me to the point I thought they might break my door down, I opened the door.  BIG MISTAKE, as they came in then!
Long story short - on this part - I was removed from my home wearing a nightgown, slippers, and the new cast.  I wasn't allowed to take any clothes, shoes, personal items, papers, etc.  And they took my cats I'd had from 8-13 years. They had called my Mother (who is now 83) to come get me and take me to her home and, when they started to take my 2 dogs, too,  my Mom asked why, and they said no one would be there to take care of them.  She finally persuaded them to take my dogs to her home.
As for my cats ..... I tried to get information about my cats, but no one would tell me, or return calls.  After being upset and worried about them, I found out 2-3 weeks later they had put them all to sleep.  I miss them and grieve for them even now!  Anyone who has ever been "owned" by a pet knows some of what I feel.
I also tried to find out why I had been removed, forbidden to return, and what the problems/complaints were.  Again, no one would tell me.  Just a short time before my first scheduled surgery, I found out what the charges were, and had to make a Court appearance (the first of many).  Needless to say I had to cancel the surgery.  I wouldn't be able to deal with a fresh major/open surgery and all the papers, etc. at the same time.  (I felt I needed to be as "with it" as possible mentally without the mind-numbing pain.)  Just before one of the hearings, the other side dropped the major charges, so I planned on having surgery again.  Well, the prosecution decided to go after me with something else - another surgery cancelled.
On the charges ..... Anyone who knows me knows this is ridiculous ... I was charged with animal cruelty, which is a felony!  Here I am at 60, disabled, and facing possible jail time!  On the other charges they pursued ... When I pressed for an evidentiary hearing, (granted by the judge), the prosecution asked for the case to be dismissed on the morning of the hearing  - it was.  I knew they couldn't present the evidence because it didn't (and doesn't) exist!
I wish I could say, as Paul Harvey does, "This is the rest of the story"...It isn't!  It breaks my heart to think someone could hate (?) me so much to continue the legal "nonsense"!  I have never hurt my neighbors - or anyone else that I know of.  Hurting others is not how I live!  After the case was dismissed, I thought I could have my home back.  Not so!  Then, charges were filed relating to code violations; then abatements to fix everything that was supposedly wrong, etc., etc......  My most recent hearing was May 9th, and I'm still filing papers, and trying to sort things out, to get my home back!  I'm still staying with my Mom, and paying on my home, including taxes, etc.
I made a sad discovery of the human-kind during all this, in this area of the world.  And I imagine I'm not alone when I say this - there are some "Gutless Wonders" living here in this small City and other small places in our Country.  NO attorney here would handle my case.  I've called hundreds of numbers/people around Arizona, other States, and even called Washington, DC. - I lost count after the first thousand - trying to get help.  It's been hard to handle all these legal matters that have come up since August of 2006, as I haven't had legal training.
Coming more to the present ..... Aside from the legal "stuff", and my wrist, hand and fingers hurting all the time, the worst of the degenerative discs at the base of my spine are screaming 24/7!  I'm normally a positive, upbeat kind of person, and I've been trying to be that way, even through all of this.  The last few weeks I haven't been too successful at it.  I just hurt too darn much!!!
I know within the deepest part of my soul, that it is God's love, and my love for Him, that has sustained me and will continue to sustain me.  There have been times I wanted to give up.  I'm tired and in pain.  He keeps me going!  I'm so thankful for my beloved and loving Lord, and my beloved and loving Heavenly Father!
I genuinely care for other people, and want to be there for them if they are in pain, or just need someone.  I feel for those I can't help, or haven't been able to help in some way.  That bothers me, too.
   On a brighter note ..... I was finally able to scan a few pieces of my own artwork, and I'll share it in other blogs...just not tonight.  (I'm starting to really feel the consequences of the time spent already.)  These are mostly animals, so I think you'll enjoy them!
  Please be Angels and pray for me, my Mom, and my situation.  Also, please pray for those who have been so devastated by Nature's actions.  Thank you!
Much love and blessings I give you!
