Words of Wisdom
Posted On 10/18/2013 10:38:35

Of late, now that I am experiencing loss of vision, and hence, I'm reading less, I find that I rely more on my memory of words already consumed rather than anticipation of words yet to be written.   In a moment of reverie relating to my recent loss, words of author Stephen King comes to mind and demands sharing.   He wrote:

"A man with a good wife is the luckiest of God's creatures, while one without must be among the most miserable, I think.   The only true blessing of their lives is that they don't know how poorly off they are."

For your wisdom, Mr King, I thank you.

God forgive me.

Was just this moment writing in my journal, a habit I've had for the past five months.....Signing off I realised that today here in Brisbane, the date is September 10th, the day after the destruction of the WTC and the murder of all those innocent souls.

I though that I would never forget that terrible day,

But God forgive me....I did.    .

As Usual
Posted On 09/04/2013 07:09:05

Tomorrow marks another month since the angels came and took her away.   It's never going to be easy, I know that, but each day is a little less hard.   I wonder if that makes sense.

The following isn't really blog material, but I'm tendering it on the off chance that  someone who really matters might understand:

As Usual

The Sun comes up and greets the dawn,

as usual.

Then I awake and find you gone,

as usual.

But I can't find a way to let,

This aching heart of mine to forget,

I pretend that you're still beside me,

as usual..

Each evening I take a walk,

as usual,

I make believe that we still talk,

as usual

People stop and stare,

I guess they just don't see you there.

Don't they know you'll always be right there,

as usual.

Today I looked into my mirror,

as usual,

In told myself that you're still here,

as usual,

But as I stood there telling lies,

the tears began to fill my eyes,

Coz I know I'm only fooling myself,

As Usual.

What Buddha Said
Posted On 08/30/2013 10:30:19

This might sound odd coming from an old Warhorse like me and mayhaps it's not really blog material but I'd truly like to share it with y'all.

I'm told that Buddha said:

"In the end, only three things matter:

  How much you loved;

  How gently you lived; and

How gracefully you let go of things

   not meant for you".

Things not meant for you?   I hope he's not referring to Ripe old age.   When I'm called, I'll go, but if I'm called soon, I wont be letting go too gracefully.

Visions of Genocide
Posted On 08/30/2013 12:57:05

Just when it seemed that it was safe to watch Television news again without viewing the horrors of war seen through the eyes of seemingly callous observers, I find today that the reporting is of the use of Chemical Agents in Syria.   I know not the perpetrators of this latest form of Genocide but I do know that the visions of tiny victims, contorted in pain is a spectacle even the most gentle must feel savage, and the most savage must weep.

The sun is shining on my garden, and that's how it is today in Syria...so far.

History? What history?
Posted On 06/15/2013 10:41:48

Can anyone remember how the 'Gulf of Tonkin' incident gave President Johnson the Carte Blanche that he sought to pursue total war in Vietnam and how very soon after, US Marines stormed ashore at Da Nang?   The rest, of course, is a history that many would prefer to forget.

And now, my friends, you'll awaken to learn that the US is about to provide Military Aid to Anti Lybian Government Rebels in response to the use of 'Chemical Weapons' by the incumbent Forces.   Standing by at the border are  US Marines waiting for the command to 'storm ashore'.  Is history about to repeat itself and in time, will there be many of us who would prefer to forget it?

History has always proved to be a grand taecher, but sadly, we have always proved to be poor students.

I should add that the Government of my country went 'All the Way with LBJ' and it's a safe bet that we'll also go 'Withya in Syria'.

I will also add that even though I disagree with our involvement in this impending campaign, my support of our troops will continue.   God bless them all

It could be war

Just another morning at Misery Farm....Breakfast on the table in front of me and the dog besides me hoping for a moment of carelessness on my account.  Before we start though, lets see if we can get a clearer picture on the News Channel of the Idiot Box.   Looks for all the world like a clown or a juggler who's escaped from a travelling carnival...a juggler probably, going by the tools of his trade in his right hand...must have taken a dip in a bucket of paint before he hit the toe.   Seems to be dripping in it.   Say, wait up a bit Max, wipe the gravy out of your eyes...That's not paint for cripes sake...it's blood.   And there, right behind him lays a human body.   Motionless...dead.

Listen...he's telling the person behind the phone/camera..."I'm sorry a woman had to see this, but in my Country, Mog..... women see this sort of thing every day".

So what is this that's put me off my breakfast.   C'mon Max, this sort of violence happens all over the world.   Listen to what the guy said.

But this hasn't happened in 'Sometown' Iraq, or 'Anytown' Afghanistan.   The body we see is that of a British Soldier and the blood has come from his neck where this self described terrorist and his cohort has tried to severe his head.   All this in the City of London while my breakfast got cold.

The bobbies took both of them alive, shot but surviving.   Meanwhile, is this incident the first of many...Civil War in the country of my parents?

Thank god I live where I do, where hate doesn't pollute our society, yet.   When this changes for the worst, do I pack my family and move, to where?   Do I build a fortress and  wait for the inevitable?   Unarmed of course, we handed in our weapons, didn't we.  Or do I pray  when I wake next morning, that he really was a clown or a juggler, and it really was red paint.

Oh Max, dream on old fellow, dream on..

Darwin, 1942
Posted On 02/20/2013 06:56:23

I'm wondering if the following really rates as a blog, and if it doesn't, please feel free to ignore it.

Recently I visited Hawaii for the fifth (and probably last) time and as usual, while I was there I went out to Pearl to pay my respects on the Arizona Memorial.

It always chokes me up a tad and on my last visit I found something very new although I've past it previously and not noticed it.  It is the remains of the Tripod Mast from which the colours fly.   One can actually see the ladder within it that must have fairly rattled with the pounding of sailors feet as they climbed it to man their battle stations on the morning of December 7, 1941.

I could have easily reached out from my position on the memorial and touched the remaining telephone cables but to do so would be sacrilege so my hands remained by my side and the dust in the air caused a tear in my eye.

What surprises me is the general ignorance of the four carrier group that caused such carnage in Pearl then steamed southward and on 19 February 1942 attacked Port Darwin...the first of 64 such raids there.

A long way from the US I guess, but folk there should be aware that among the shipping that was lost on the day of the first raid was the destroyer, USS Peary.

A galant ship that still had guns firing as she slipped beneath the burning surface.

So there...A blog?    Let the reader decide.

A lesson in ancient history?   Yeah, I guess so but within us all lurks some form of frustrated teacher, aint it so.

It pays to have a contingency plan
Posted On 12/07/2012 10:27:38

I'm a believer in the idea that for every 'Plan A' there should be at least a 'Plan B' for isn't it said that the 'Greatest Plans 0f Men and Mice, often go astray"?.

So, with that in mind, when I walk into Dan Murphy's for to purchase a carton (slab) of Miller's Draft and to be told "We're all out of Miller's Mr Mick" I'm not in the least put out because I have a cunning 'Plan B' or even, if it's required, 'C'.

I'd much prefer 'Plan A' because somewhere in this world it just has to be 'Miller's Time' but if it's going to be a 'B' or even a 'C', and because I only ever imbibe in a coldy on days that end in 'Y', any old drop will do, just as long as it's not too Japanesee.

And that reminds me of the purpose of this note....Historical Contingency Plans.

Today, being December 7, I'm reminded that it's the anniversary of the day the Sons of Nippon slipped a dirk into the back of an unsuspecting and peaceful nation and in doing so they didn't take into consideration the surviving bits in front that Kick and Gouge and Stomp and generally make life miserable for dirty ###### (skunks?).

It was a long haul back and before the eventual victory and I wonder if, in 1945, did President Truman say to his staff...:

"What ever happens,

 I have got,

 A bloody big bomb,

 And Japan has not".

I'll conclude this with a fervant prayer that this will see the end of world, or any other, conflict.

Just like the world prayed similarly in November 1918.

Not loud enough maybe..
