Proper Social Site Etiquettes
Since joining Yuwie a short while ago, I’ve noticed that there are many blogs and announcements from people who are promoting their various endeavors. GREAT!! All that is good and well, however there seem to be an absence of proper etiquettes…..Old Fashion Good Manners----WHERE ARE THEY FOLKES? Certainly this lack of proper etiquettes does not apply to everyone. However, this trend seems to be more the norm here than not.
Yuwie is a social media, networking site. Since social media is a social medium, it important that members understand the proper ways to behave online. Therefore, not because you are sitting behind your computer monitors in the privacy of your homes, doesn’t mean all social etiquettes should be thrown out the window. Following proper social media etiquette is a key to successful promotion of your various enterprises and ultimately to their success.
Please try to keep the following in mind:
1- Treat Others As You Want To Be Treated: If you want to receive attention from others on line, you have to be willing to give it first. Remember the old saying? ‘I’ll scratch your back, if you’ll scratch mine†routine. You can’t burst onto a social media site with a sense of entitlement, thinking that others should be interested in your ventures when you don’t show any interest in theirs or even display basic manners.
Simply sending a “dry†message to others without introducing yourself or even greeting the recipient properly is RUDE. Hence, don’t expect others to respond these “dry†messages that you send to their inboxes advertising your enterprises, especially when you did not have the common courtesy to respond or acknowledge a nice greeting or comment sent to you by that individual.
2- Don’t Be A Keyboard Gangster: Oh YES! I am sure we have all ran across one of these along our internet adventure. These people are rude, obnoxious and say things online to others that they would never have the guts to say to a real person’s face. They simply talk trash to everyone they encounter, trying to ruin everyone else’s online experience, because they lead miserable lives.
3- Respect The Community: Show respect to the community. Respect for everyone goes a long way to ensuring a great experience for all. The rule of thumb is to treat others as you want to be treated. These are the same social skills that you should already be following in your everyday lives. Hence, you simply have to follow them online also.
4- Listening Is Good….Forget The Frowns: Your first reaction should not be to get angry if someone respectfully comments or disagrees with your blog or postings. It’s OK! Remember that everyone is entitled to their opinion. Therefore, take whatever is said as constructive criticism. Try to understand their point of view. Remember that we don’t know everything and we can learn from others if we take the time to listen. Therefore, I implore all of you to send me your comments on any of my bogs. :-) Comment! Comment….Away!
5- Build Quality Relationships: People are more willing to help others who they have a relationship with. By building quality relationships with other members, you will always have a friend when you need help. Consequently, you also need to be a good participant in your social site relationship. A quality relationship requires the participation of both parties. It is not a one way street.
6- Be NICE! All of my 5 points above Adds To Two Word…. BE NICE! It does not take too much effort to be nice to others if we always remember to practice proper etiquettes. Good Manners Goes A Long Way! :)

Thats great advice Colleen, but one question did you come across someone that was rude?hope I didn't give you anything rude. I try to be polite,,,I try to teach my kids to be polite. Thats sometimes hard because their teen agers,,,they tend to have attitudes,,

Great blog. A person does have to be careful. I have gotten message like this from women in their 20's on this site telling me they want to get to know me. I always think what do they want with a man who is 30 years plus older them. I always figure they want something or up to something. You can meet some strange people on sites like these, both men and women. Take care!
