Across the miles and through the trees, I’ve seen many
moths fly by – drawn to the light of my lantern raised high aloft.
Seeking comfort from their night’s sky.
Such things I once enjoyed, back when my brilliant torches
glowed much stronger – I drew them close and embraced them soft.
What once was Truth, it seems, is sadly true no longer.
As the flames grew weak and tired, those that sought out that
familiar shining light – were now compelled to brighter skies.
Those once-reliable companions suddenly vanished from my sight.
I return to the trail today, a lonely walk, where I make my new
and higher camps – I find friends amid the fireflies.
Their wings fan me with understanding for they carry their own lamps.
