Please Don’t Bring Me Flowers
Posted On 02/12/2012 05:15:26

My dear Valentine:

This Valentine’s Day, please don’t tell me you love me with flowers and chocolates, or even a sappy card, just so you can brag to your friends that you earned brownie points.  I’d rather have your undivided attention, just for an evening.  It will cost you nothing but your time.

And don’t bother buying me that last-minute guilt present or making empty promises you cannot keep.  I’m smarter than that and my heart needs to be warmed more than once or twice a year.

Instead, love me in small ways; love me in the every day things you do and with the words you say.  Love me with a look, a touch, a gesture, a squeeze of my hand.

Love me today, like there may not be tomorrow.

Love me by encouraging me to be the best I can be, by understanding my need to be valued by you.

Love me by treating me as an equal, not a subordinate, or even a possession.

Love me by being pleased with my successes, not threatened.  Love me by consciously choosing to speak a compliment rather than voice an insult.

Love me by not criticizing my ways just to make you feel superior, but by offering constructive advice in a genuine spirit of support.  Love me even during our  disagreements by respecting that we both have valuable opinions, even if they differ.

Recognize that your callous words can cut me to the core; so choose them wisely – you can’t take them back once they’re spoken.  Realize that over time, hurtful actions can scrape away at my self-esteem and confidence in a manner that is difficult to heal.

Love me in the small things of every day, like scraping the frost from my car windows in the morning, or vacuuming the house, unasked.  Love me by cleaning the toilet or changing the empty toilet paper roll, or picking up your dirty laundry.  Love me by offering to scrub my back in the tub, or making supper on Friday night, or bringing home a movie you know I would like.

Understand that when your daily actions show you are considerate of my feelings, it is easier for me to be considerate of yours.

These aren’t the wise signs of love that little girls are taught.  When I was young, no one told me that love wasn’t the raw passion and brilliant romance that I saw in movies.

I had to learn by experience that love waxes and wanes, rises and falls, and then evens out into a breadcrumb trail of small, everyday things that guide us in and out of dark places and around obstacles and through challenges…and finally – just maybe – lead us to the top of the mountain where we can see clearly where we’ve been and where we are going.  Where suddenly, we know we didn’t get there alone; we had help.

That’s love.  And that’s what I really want this Valentine’s Day.

Just breadcrumbs.

Winter Skin Care
Posted On 02/01/2012 04:38:27

As winters have finally set in, you already start feeling that tightness in your skin. This is because your skin is not getting enough moisture. Make sure to follow these guidelines to have a perfect smooth skin even in winters.

Oil-based moisturizers: Start using oil based moisturizer that contains avocado or almond oil. These oils will lock the moisture in your skin and build a protective layer on the top surface.

Sunscreen:  Don’t forget to use your sunscreen, it scold but still quite sunny. Avoid a water based one if you can.

Avoid Hot water:  I know we all like to stand under that hot shower but its not at all good for our skin. It can not only break the capillaries in the face, but also break down the lipid barriers in the skin, which will lead to a loss of moisture. To add some moisture to your skin, apply some almond oil.

Moisturize skin when it’s damp : Apply a good moisturizing Lotion right after bath when the skin is damp. It will help to lock down the moisture and will soften the skin.

Use Cream foundation: The cream foundation in winters will act as a extra protective layer and will not dry off easily.

Never ever lick your lips: Always keep a lip balm or Vaseline in your bag. Dry lips are not a good sight to see.

Give your hands and feet extra care: the skin of our hands and feet is very thin so it can’t capture much moisture in it. Winters therefore makes the skin appear dry, broken and flaky. Make sure that doesn’t happen and apply lotion more frequently.

Easy tips which don’t take that much effort. Start taking care for a change and feel the difference! Stay beautiful!

Forever Young!
Posted On 02/01/2012 04:30:40

Signs of ageing can be as depression as any other major worry in the world. Wrinkeles, dark spots and dull skin can be as daunting and terrifying as a nightmare. No lady wants to grow old or feel old. Maybe that is why we ladies do not like revealing our ages. And its fair too. Staying beautiful is a women’s right. It makes her feel strong and confident. As long as we are not obsessed with beauty to an extent that it completely takes over our mind, there is nothing wrong in employing little techniques and tips which can help us stay forever young.

This article has those simple tips which will help you look younger and attractive and serve as good anti-ageing techniques.

  • Get a good haircut. Haircuts can really alter the way you look! Generally, to look younger it is advised that you keep your hair length between you chin and your shoulders. Get a flattering haircut which is not only trendy but also suits your face.. see those years shed in just a matter of minutes!
  • Use the correct lipstick shades. Glosses and light colours should be preferred as matt lipsticks and dark brown shades settle in your lips making them look dry. Darker shades enhance your lip lines which also gives an aged look.
  • Those eyes can do a lot of magic if they are properly maintained. Curl your lashes and apply mascara and make your eyes prominent. Line your eyes deep enough to make them look larger.
  • Stand up straight and sit in the right posture. This is very important. In fact, from a very early age one should make a habit of sitting and standing in the correct posture or else your backbone starts to bend. This is a sign of early ageing. All the elegant women and celebrities stand up straight and confidently!
  • Do not compromise on your sleep. Sleeping is very essential as sleep depriviation can cause weakness and lack of energy. Staying active keeps you healthy and hence, younger for long. A good night’s sleep is also important for your skin. Do not let dark circles appear because of stress and bad sleeping habits.
  • Smile always. Smiling makes you look more pretty and elegance. Smiling is a good way to keep yourself and the people around you happy and make you feel lively. A happy heart obviously makes you younger and cheerful which will add to your beauty even more. Remember that no one wants to talk to a boring stressed face. With lots of people around who love your personality, you will feel young and look young so smile all the way.
  • For a confident smile, try teeth whitening. Overtime, teeth may yellow with coffee, tea stains and so teeth whitening may be a good trick. Avoid smoking and keep your lungs healthy, your heart lively and your teeth white.

Stay beautiful for your own self. Love yourself and maintain yourself.

Stay young, stay happy..

Smile

 SWALK1955

Some days, it’s easy to smile. You wake up to the sounds of birds chirping, with the warm glow of the morning sun cradling your face. You take several deep, cleansing breaths standing beneath a perfectly cascading shower, just before drawing a smiley face on the steamed-up glass with your index finger.

Your roommate or significant other makes your coffee, just the way you like it. You hit every traffic light. You sing to your favorite tunes. And you arrive at work refreshed, excited, and anxious to create and collaborate.

But not every day starts this way. Sometimes you wake up to chaos, in your head or in the world around you. You hit snags, and bumps, and roadblocks at every turn. You try too hard, or don’t try enough, and things fall apart, or things fall short.

You struggle, you fight yourself and other people, and you find yourself wishing you could stop the world so you could get off for a while.

But there is an alternative. When things go wrong, you can fall down or look up. You can shut down or wake up, all over again, starting from right where you stand. You can accept that the days won’t always look bright, but commit to finding something worth smiling about. Not sure what that might be? No worries, friends! I have a few ideas….

Call a friend who knows how to laugh at herself to remember what it’s like not to take yourself too seriously.

Ask a friend to come over and make you smile. It’s really simple and obvious, I know, but sometimes we forget to just ask for what we need.

Read a letter, card, or email from someone who thought of you when you were going through a hard time.

Search your deleted email folder for “thank you.” You probably made a huge difference in someone’s life recently—remember that now!

Text a friend, “What’s the funniest thing you’ve heard today?”

Text your significant other with a silly picture of you and ask for one in return.

Tell a child in your life that you need a hug. Just try to stay stoic when she throws her little arms around your neck and sings “The Sun Will Come out Tomorrow.”

Alternatively, ask that child to draw a picture of you and him or her together.

Take a break to enjoy a simple pleasure that you often multitask—like a cup of flavored coffee, or a favorite snack.

Rearrange your furniture. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel a sense of accomplishment when I do this, and I also really enjoy the novelty of creating a space with a different feel.

Give your cat a ball of yarn or give your dog a wrapped gift and watch him try to open it. Pets playing = instant smile, at least, for me!

Go out and invest in a hula hoop. It’s nearly impossible to stay glum when you get moving like you haven’t since you were a kid. (Alternative option: jump around on a trampoline and just try to not smile!)

For the ladies: paint your toe nails a bright color that you wouldn’t usually pick.

Ask a child in your life to do your hair. Seeing yourself with massive 80s bangs (ladies) or a Mohawk-inspired look (men) is sure to get you laughing!

Blast your favorite music and dance around with absolutely no regard for rhythm or appearance.

Bake something that has a silly face on it. Really—this is a valid suggestion!

Eat food that requires you to use your hands, and get messy—and then really get messy. Get rib sauce all over your face and just go with it.

Make some type of arts and crafts project, just like you would have as a kid, with plans to give it to someone else. (Two-part smile: when you see the ridiculous thing you made, and when you see your friend’s face after receiving it).

Make a snack you loved as a kid. Maybe it’s peanut butter and banana sandwiches, or a sundae with gummy bears on it.

Watch a movie or cartoon from your childhood. Smurfs always do it for me

Write a hand-written letter to someone you love, using different colored pens.

Look at pictures from your childhood. I can’t help but smile when I see the ridiculously thick bangs my mother gave me (translate: the front of a mullet).

Pop in the video/DVD from your child’s last recital—or your childhood recital.

Call your oldest friend, start a conversation with, “’Member when we…,” and end it with, “That was awesome, huh?”

Do an updated version of that awesome thing, right now. Really—grab your markers, or your bike, or your flashlight, or you video camera, and have a childlike day.

Make a magazine collage of things that always make you smile. Consider it a mini vision board for moments you’d like to create soon.

Dress up in clothes you love, just to run a simple errand. When you like how you look, you generally feel good.

Wear bright colored socks. If your pants are long, wear a different color on each foot. It’s like a little private joke that only you and your feet know about.

Make a beeline to your favorite spot, whether it’s a beach, bike trail, or mall. (No judgment—it’s your favorite spot.)

Make time to see the sunrise or sunset, and make it an occasion. Invite a friend and bring wine and a picnic basket. Make a memory, and make it beautiful.

Walk by your neighborhood park and soak in the innocence, excitement, and wonder.

Grab your camera and go outside with a mission to capture things that make you happy.

Make a list of all the amazing things you’ve accomplished and experienced this year, and then bask in the beauty of it all.

Tell someone how much they mean to you. Say all the things that might make you feel kind of vulnerable, and then think about how special you just made them feel.

Help a neighbor with something, whether it’s pulling weeds from a woman’s garden or running an errand for an elderly man who no longer drives. Two part happiness—forgetting about your own problems, and showing someone that neighborly kindness is not a thing of the past.

Commit a random act of kindness and tell that person to pass it on.

Spend some time exploring your world.

Make your own list of awesome things.

Create a happy list for the day, including the smallest details (a fluffy pillow) and the biggest things (your health and your family).

Take a run around your block. Trigger some endorphins, whittle your waist line, and remember that the world is so much bigger and greater than it seems when sadness closes you down.

Laugh out loud. Seriously, just choose to laugh and keep going.

Hum your favorite song. it’s soothing, it centers you, and also calms your nervous system.

Make a new friend, in person or by commenting on a blog. Like this one. =)

10 Romantic Ideas Without Spending a Dime
Posted On 01/19/2012 02:55:42

Romance Doesn't Have to Be Expensive

A long time ago it was commonly believed that romance had to involve spending a lot of money. You needed to bring the one you loved flowers or chocolates or really impress them with a date of fine dining in an expensive restaurant. Fortunately, many of these romantic ideas have lost a lot of appeal as they have become so cliched. Some of the best ways to show your partner that you love them are simple and free.

Below are our 10 favorite ideas for how to be more romantic - without spending a dime:

1. Little Love Notes: Love notes go a long way, and you don't have to spend anything for them. You can simply use paper you have already laying around the house (even torn off pieces of junk mail will work if you are really frugal!) Leave them little notes in all types of places - in their shoes, their drawers, their car, etc. They'll be surprised everytime they find one!

2. Dandelions and Other Pretty Weeds: So most people expect roses or tulips or carnations. But why not take advantage of some pretty flowers that grow naturally in areas that you can get for free? Dandelions for example are perfect - a lot of people don't want them in their yard, which means you can almost always pick them for free without worrying about someone getting upset that you took them. It's not the type of flower you get, it's the thought that counts.

3. Write a Song: You don't have to be musically talented in order to write a song. Sometimes the worst sung songs, when they come from the heart, are the best.

4. Do Something They Hate: If your partner has something they hate to do, like a household chore or other activity, offering to do it for them will make them pretty happy and show that you care about them.

5. Play a Romantic Game: There are many games that couples can play that don't cost anything. Strip poker for example only takes a deck of cards.

6. Make a List: Writing out a list of the reasons you love your partner is a great way to show that you care about him or her. You can decide to frame it, or just tape it up on the refrigerator.

7. Make a Picture: You don't have to be an artist to make a special picture for the one you love. Draw a memory of a favorite time together or something about them that you love.

8. Recite Poetry: You can either write your own poem or borrow a few lines from one of the classics. Poery can be very romantic.

9. Cook Something: Whether you decide to cook together for a special romantic dinner at home or just make them their favorite dish, cooking is a great way to show your love for someone.

10. Hold Hands and Snuggle: When you've been with someone for a long time, a lot of times you forget to do things like hold hands, kiss them unexpectedly for no reason at all or snuggle up and watch TV together. A backrub can also be a much appreciated romantic gesture.

MAY BUTTERFLIES MAKE YOUR MORNINGS BRIGHT,
MAY IT BE SHADED WITH TREES AND BIRDS YOU KNOW.
MAY THE FLUFFY WHITE CLOUDS DRIFT BY TAKING AWAY THE GREY.
MAY EACH MORNING BE PLEASANT AS YOU AWAKE.
MAY THE ROAD ALWAYS BE THE RIGHT CHOICE IN THE ONE YOU TAKE.
MAY YOU REMEMBER THERE WILL BE TESTS EACH DAY YOU LIVE.
MAY YOU ALWAYS MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION AND TAKE OUT THE WEEDS.
MAY YOU APPRECIATE A ROSE TOUCHED WITH THE MORNING DEW.
This little poem is written to for you my Boomer Friends.

I want you to enjoy your life, always take the time to
"smell the flowers."

Guardian Angel
Posted On 01/11/2012 09:52:54

A Guardian Angel
Then took hold of my hand,
And all it can do,
A kind smile on your face,
To show someone you care,
All the powers you possess,
To bestow the powers of love,
And with those final words,
She disappeared up above.
