Thinking of the Children Sitting on the wooden floor No heat and the room is empty Except for the children themselves Their faces covered with sadness The cold air creeps and whistles As it moves through the cracks in the walls The children shiver, all huddled together Drowning within their own little thoughts Days have passed since their last meal And today may bring them the same In their weakened state clinging only to hope It helps them survive the rest of their day They sleep in the corner of the room Depending on each other for warmth Sleep comes slowly if it comes at all As they await a new day of emptiness Torn, tattered clothes cover their bodies Their shoes are old and too small for them Some of them even have a warm coat They must be shared from time to time They do not step foot into a schoolroom No one even knows these children are here They live in seclusion in their own little world It is all they have ever known to exist Their bodies confined to these four walls No playtime, they never seem to smile Their minds are far behind the normal Limited to this hell that holds them Each day is the same; nothing changes They live for the moment waiting on the next Hoping for the chance of anything at all Not even knowing what will or will not come Tears are plentiful and flow daily These little ones understand worry Days are consumed with nothingness It is all they have ever known This time of year always makes me sad to see all of the materialistic mentalities when what I have just described is not only a reality, but is far more common than we may think. There are children who literally have no chance in life, because their parents have failed to love them and provide for their daily needs, as they should insist upon. There are children that will not get Christmas gifts this year, but that is the least of their concerns. Many will not even have a meal on that day that we celebrate and sometimes not realize the true blessings we tend to take for granted. If you are able, take the time to help those who are less fortunate, and have true needs that go far beyond many of our daily challenges. Pray for these children and that they somehow get a chance to be lifted from this dark reality in which they live. They are our future. Vic Damico 12-21-2010

Note: I wrote this earlier this year and decided to re-post it...
A Typical Night At The Bar (A little humor) At 5:00, I sat down at the bar The bartender placed a beer before me I took the first sip; it didn't even taste good Bored, looking around, and I knew no one
At 5:15, I ordered another beer This one tasted better, but not good It went down faster than the first Still bored, looking around, knowing no one
At 5:45, I ordered a beer and a shot of Apple Pucker I drank the shot, and spilled my beer in my lap The bartender put another beer before me, no charge This one really tasted better, I turned the bottle up and chugged it
At 6:15, I was no longer bored, but wasn't sure why I ordered a Jack and Coke, drank it and ordered another I then took my shirt tail out to hide my wet spot The bartender told me he was getting bored
At 7:00, a women entered the bar and sat down beside me She told me her name was Sarah, and I bought her a beer We toasted to the new friendship, and I spilled my drink in her lap Now I was not only not bored, but I knew someone
At 7:25, Sarah's friend showed up and sat on the other side of me She was already drunk, and her name was Janet I bought her a shot of whiskey with a water back She drank the whiskey in one gulp, then spilled the water in my lap
At 7:50, I was wet, buzzed, and knew two people in the bar Sarah ordered all three of us a shot of Bacardi 151 Drunk ass Janet leaned over and kissed me on the cheek While she did this, Sarah drank my Bacardi and hers
By 9:15, I could not remember the girl's names The bartender had taken shots with us the last four times My eyes were having difficulty with focusing on anything And Sarah and Janet were the most beautiful girls I had ever seen
At 11:10, the bartender told us we were getting too drunk He then made us switch back to drinking beer Sarah and I spilled our beers on each other The bartender laughed so hard that he dropped his beer
At 12:20, we were fighting over who was the most sober I realized that I could not remember my name The bartender leaned over and told me Janet was a lesbian Janet told me that Sarah was really a man
At 1:05, I asked the girls to excuse me while I went to the restroom Disoriented with my return, I sat at the opposite end of the bar The bartender was so drunk that he did not remember me He brought me a beer and said he would start me a tab
At 1:20, Sarah came down and joined me at the bar The bartender brought us four beers and sat them before us He took two of the beers and poured them in our laps Sarah and I then toasted to the bartender and thanked him
At 1:45 Sarah woke up the bartender and told him to give last call He gave us all another beer and two shots of something that was blue He locked the front door and told us we had to go home After realizing what he did, he could not find his keys
At 3:22 Janet was still asleep on the floor by her table Sarah was asleep on top of the bar covered with about 40 bar towels The bartender was asleep in the back office on his desk And I had accidentally locked myself in the beer cooler Vic Damico 12-20-2010

We are living in dark times, as a nation, and as a people. Although no one is forced to accept or conform to the same beliefs as others, many things cannot be overlooked as they are filtered through our daily lives. If someone is born blind, from birth, they do not have even a slight concept of vision. Vision cannot be explained. Vision cannot be taught because for those who have never seen, there is nothing for them to use as a comparison. They simply cannot see. You cannot explain colors to them. You cannot explain shape or sizes to them. All they know is where something is, what it feels like, or how far away it is based on their own standards of measurement. They have faith that it is as it was last time they touched it, what shape it was and how large or small it was, or how far away it is based on the faith that it remains the same. This is blind faith in the true sense of the word. Oh, how we could learn from them. My faith in God is much the same. Those who question us ask that we prove there is a God. We cannot prove it to them by showing them. We cannot show them by letting them touch Him. We cannot tell them how far away He is. We can only show them our hearts. And that should be what we do every single day of our lives. I cannot prove to someone that there is a God, just as that blind person cannot show you where something is. All we can do is by faith, lead them to what we already know and hope they find it, just as that blind person hopes to find what he/she has found in the same place so many times. In our nation on this day, as many days in the past, we have a breakdown in religious values. Values are being dismissed because many are choosing to reject personal confirmation of their beliefs in an effort to not offend someone. This rejection of attempts to speak of religion does not allow for absolute standards of right or wrong. We have no authority to turn to for the determination of what is right or what is wrong if we do not accept the faith that sets those standards. Many do what is right in their own eyes, and that which is based on their opinions. Public opinions have their own valid functions, but are inappropriate and insufficient as true guidence. In our everyday lives, we find ourselves using our faith to guide us, but we need to understand what faith is. Faith is believing in something because we already know it to be a reality. That reality does not become less real because someone may question its existence. That reality does not vanish because there are those who have made statements that are attempts to explain it away. Faith is real, and it cannot be taken away once it is there. You can dismiss it, but it cannot be forced from you. Just as the blind person may use that blind faith to avoid obsticles that are all around him/her, our faith allows us to avoid the obsticles that are in our paths. We simply have to find that faith, and cling to it for what is truly is. That is what guides us through life. That is what allows us to determine what is right and what is wrong. And that is what leads us to where we have chosen to go with our lives. Vic Damico 12-18-2010

What is the purpose
Of decorating a tree? What is the connection? What is the point? Who does it honor?
Why do we see the need To sing so many songs? Songs of bells, snow And even reigndeer Who are we singing to? Who does it honor?
Why does it seem that everyone Is supposed to receive a gift? A television, tools, dolls, Music, toys, and games To even tell others What it is that you expect Who does it honor?
Every single house On every single street Is flooded with lights Each house is an attempt To outshine the one beside it Beautiful colors flashing constantly Who does it honor?
Would it not make more sense To just gather on that day With family and friends? To sit at the table With a decorated cake To share in a prayer For a very special birth
At least with that We would know who we are honoring

I Must Remain Focused Reaching for that which I know is and has always been there The path is obstructed by the litter of those who reach for nothing Knowing well my goal and the path that is of my own heart and soul Finding myself taking the long road in order to avoid the unwanted Forced to labor more than should have been warranted or even necessary Yet understanding that I will do what is needed to fulfill my obligations Setting aside my wants and needs while I fight against the currents of life With no regrets or hesitation for the trials and struggles that are presented My life is not my own; it is a vessel that floats within this existence A direction is predetermined; it is up to me to continue with understanding I have an obligation to a power that allows choice, yet shows me the way He guides me through darkness and storms providing all that is needed My journey is long, difficult, and temptation constantly rears its ugly head If my heart is strong and constant, the powers against me are thrown aside Never…Never…Never…allowing my path to be clouded or changed Holding firm to that which serves as my light in the darkest of nights So I move forward in a constant motion, focused on what is to come Not on the end, but the beginning…Not on death, but the essence of life The life before me is full of pain which is like a thorn in my side It is a reminder of the pain that He must feel constantly as He watches I hold my head high, and I place my feet firmly on the ground before me I take a single step at a time, evaluating my progress or the lack of it Learning as I go, and applying that knowledge and wisdom to my vision My heart is my smile, as I get closer and closer to my chosen destination Vic Damico 12-16-2010

Sometimes, I just shake my head in complete confusion as I see what has become just common, everyday logic for most, and what is accepted without any kind of resistance...Our nation is not screwed up; it is the people, themselves who are screwed up...It amazes me that we have survived this long when you consider the following... ***It is ok to burn the American Flag***It is not ok to pray in school***We have to be careful to not mistreat the terrorists who killed thousands of people on 911***It is not ok to bring a Bible to school***We cannot enforce laws that prevent illegal entry across our borders in fear of disrespect to the Hispanic vote***It is not ok to display the Ten Commandments in front of a government building***It is ok to produce a law that will allow gays to make an announcement of their sexual preferences within their role in our military***It is not ok for a state (Arizona) to produce a law to protect its border because the federal level refuses to do so***It is not ok to use the moral foundation of our faith as part of the guidence of our nation***It is perfectly acceptable to build a Muslim Mosque at or near the site of where a terrorist attack took place, and the people who are offended are viewed as racial***It is ok to use the word "RACISM" as a political tool***It is ok to use Christmas trees, Christmas gifts, and Christmas songs in a television ad***It is wrong to use the word Christmas in the same tv ads***It is not necessary for those who hold political offices to be honest with the people they represent***It is not ok to question the actions and statements of the president without being considered a racist***The government blames the banks for the economic situation in America***The government bails out those same banks***It is ok to force U.S. Citizens to purchase health care insurance***It is ok to fine those who do not purchase and maintain health care insurance up to $250,000 and to face prison time of up to five years for the same offense***It is ok to abort a child for the simple reason of not wanting the child***The government will pay you if you do not have a job, and if you still do not work the pay will continue***It is ok to have a perfect stranger fondle a three year old child in the name of airport security***You must show identification to purchase a fishing liscense***No identification is necessary in order to vote for the next President of the United States***Freedom of religion seems to be in full force, unless your religion has an association with God***
Do we really have to wonder why our nation is so screwed up right now?

The separation of church and state: I wrote this about two years ago, and decided it needed to be posted for those who may be given a better understanding of what led to the Separation of Church and State. The original intention of the topic has been distorted and manipulated to represent the views of those in Washington, and its purpose is now merely a political tool. It was never meant to represent what it has now become, and we as a nation are truly effected by this illusion.
I am constantly amazed that the whole perception of “the separation of church and state†is so hard to understand. I blame this on the Republican Party, and I am angry that we have gone so long without fighting to get the American people to understand what it truly was meant to be. Many years ago Thomas Jefferson heard that in England, they were looking at placing a certain religion as a national religion. When Jefferson heard this, he realized that this would be a problem in America and it was not the place of any government to determine what religion should be followed. First of all, the “no establishment clause†of the first amendment says, “Neither a state nor the Federal government can set up a church. Neither can pass laws that aid one religion, aid all religions, or prefer one religion to another.†Why is this so hard to comprehend? Why have we allowed it’s meaning to be so distorted? The whole idea of “the separation of church and state†is to remove the government from the church, not to remove the church from the government. In 1962, the Supreme Court outlawed officially composed prayers in the public schools, and then in 1963 it outlawed daily readings of the Bible and recitation of the Lord’s Prayer in public schools. These decisions by the court brought a tremendous storm of disapproval at that time. So the idea of trying to control our religion has been unpopular since the original miss-interpretation of Thomas Jefferson’s initial concern. When the Bill of Rights was passed, its first words were “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.†How can anyone look at this and determine that somehow it means that you cannot pray in school, or that you cannot bring a bible to school, or that it is unlawful to display the Ten Commandments in front of a government building? The whole concept of “the separation of church and state†is to allow anyone within our borders to practice the religion of their choice. It was not meant to allow us to practice religion as long as we did not offend others that did not share in our personal beliefs. The only stipulation was in the “free exercise clause “ of the First Amendment, which stated that people cannot be compelled by government to act contrary to their religious beliefs, unless the religious conduct collides with valid laws. Our Nation was founded with the faith of God as part of the very foundation. You do not weaken the foundation and expect to maintain the original integrity of anything. By the removal of this faith, we have allowed our government to dismiss the necessity of choosing right over wrong, good verses evil, and when you are speaking of the whole society that makes up this great country, that is not something that should have been dismissed under any circumstances. And today, as a nation, we are paying for that lack of integrity and the dismissal of the moral fibers that are within us, but hidden away in order to not offend those who do not see the very need for the morals in the first place. The government will never control this part of my life. Vic Damico 12-14-2010

I Refuse
I refuse to conform To demands of man, groups, or government Overlooking my moral obligations in the process Or to stray from what I believe to be right
I refuse to give up Allowing others to think for me as if held captive Insisting on assistance when it is simply not needed Or to depend on others for what does not concern them
I refuse to be guided By those who themselves are clearly lost Leading others to a place that has no meaning Resulting in confusion and the need for further correction
I refuse to be blinded Unaware of the world that evolves around me Understanding my part in the whole existence Considering all factors that add to the end result
I refuse to forget history The measuring stick for what has and will happen The knowledge that has come from my past Is the source of wisdon for today and tomorrow
I refuse to remain stagnant To sit in dormancy as life continues Waiting for the efforts of others to clear the path Simply looking and longing for the finished product
I refuse to conform To demands of man, groups, or government Overlooking my moral obligations in the process Or to stray from what I believe to be right
I simply refuse...

We Need More Soldiers We need more soldiers in full combat ready to move Those who are willing to fight with all that is within them Setting their selfishness aside looking toward a common goal Desiring that which will benefit all who are part of the fight The leader is known to all who see the necessity of this battle A Commander In Chief that knows not the meaning of defeat In the midst of a war that has been brewing since the beginning of time The enemy being those who work against the predestined outcome Free will is alive and well, and on that concept the armies are built A simple choice to serve, to battle, and to lead those who also fight Sides have been chosen even though one side is guaranteed victory A battle between those who have seen the light and those who are blind Guided by our Master’s voice that can be heard throughout the lands Setting a path before us that has no room or tolerance for the weak-minded The enemy moves all around us as they present themselves as our allies They will inevitably be defeated but they spread turmoil within our daily paths Our fight will be strong and our army will be victorious in the end No factors will change that; it has been pre-determined long long ago We are strong, we are many, and we are ready for the fight to begin The stronghold that manipulates the people will not win or even survive There are those who understand fully of that which I have written here And they know well who that Commander In Chief has always been Supported by an army that grows daily with its soldiers that will fight until the end Because understanding the end is the very source of our fight And we need more soldiers
NOTE: I want to make sure that it is clear that I am not speaking of the United States Military, nor am I suggesting that we need more men and women to serve in the military...The battle I speak of is good vs evil...The Commander In Chief I speak of is God...The soldiers I speak of are those of us who see the need for this continuing battle and are a part of it...
