Libra

libra september child

the skies open up to wispy clouds

as the fresh crisp air of september arrives.

i open the window and breathe in the beauty of the morning

i forget the long hot summer days and nights

and look forward to the change of the season.

i drink in the colors of fall

quenching my thirst from

wine colored trees.

my head spins as i watch the amber leaves

spiral down from their branches

creating a carpet of gold and red velvet as they touch the ground

a canvas painted with the colors of the earth

God's palette of autumn fill my eyes with wonder

and my heart fills with memories

of my childhood, my travels, my home.

september is more than a goodbye to summer

it's hope for today and tomorrow

and peace from the past.

i was born in september and was given

a ring of sapphire as a little girl.

it remains one of my treasures even though it has no value

just a beautiful blue stone that still has a sparkle.

given with love to this libra september child

with hopes of harmony and fairness

to balance her life

and to forever cherish the days of wine colored trees

that quench my thirst

~~A Friend Is A Friend~~

As I walked closer to his image the black and white day seemed to come to life.

The air seemed to stir from standing still to a breeze that made my heart race.

Each step closer felt like I was still standing in place.

I knew that he could feel my presence and as soon as I saw his face,

maybe he was someone I had known or maybe about to discover.

He looked so clear and vivid with an aura that changed the world to color.

The softness of his voice was like a familiar comfort.

His eyes were filled with such kindness that I couldn't help but stare.

His silver gray hair looked as soft as a child caught in time.

His smile was filled with such honesty that made his words seem to rhyme.

We spoke of memories that seemed to be intertwined...

sadness and heartache but we soothed the pain as we spoke.

He was a teacher, a poet, an artist, joyful in spirit.

As we crossed paths I did not want to leave.

He said I will remember your face, maybe not your name.

I replied a friend is a friend just the same.

He said I hope we meet again and I agreed.

Somehow I know we will.

~~Can I Trust The Sky~~

As I drove away I looked in the rear view mirror.

The dark angry clouds were forming as if they were taking over the sky.

Closely following me as if asking me to stay.

I was leaving the sea.

I once again had found myself seeking the answers from the sound of the waves.

Hoping I could see beyond the horizon at daybreak,

or maybe evening when the day turned to dusk.

I had run away from a place I had left in pieces

that I had helped shatter.

Pieces that had crumbled painfully and slowly.

Lies that had been told and partially believed.

Excuses for the emptiness in every room.

A confused heart that my mind could not combine with a love I wanted and a love I did not need.

A favorite mistake, the sweetest taboo.

A wish that would never come true.

I looked again and the clouds were still there.

Closer and above me hovering not moving.

Should I wait for the wind to take them away.

Should I listen to my heart?

Can I trust the sky?

~~For The Love Of A Child~~
Posted On 11/18/2012 04:59:19

It seems that in this world today there are so many stories of pain and suffering. Lost and lonely people, many with no family to turn to for the comfort they need. In my life I have been blessed with a family that is rich with love. Our lives have also been touched with pain and loss that somehow brought us closer. I thank God all through the day for the love we have and that he will continue to bless us. I see the light he so generously shines. One of my most precious blessings is my beautiful granddaughter. When I say beautiful, I mean physical beauty, but also beauty from inside. She has the heart and spirit of gold. She is only nine years old, but we could all learn a lesson from the love of a child. She recently heard a story about a child that suffered from cancer and sadly he died. She was so sad that she cried and cried. She decided she wanted to do something to help others. She heard about locks of love...an organization where you can donate your hair for cancer victims and she knew what she wanted to do. From the love of a child to another she donated her lovely long locks. I've loved her from the moment I learned she would be a part of our lives and have been proud of many magic things she has created in her short life. But, my heart has never been as touched as her gift for the love of a child.

~~A Place They Belong~~
Posted On 05/29/2012 05:26:15

There's a place to keep things where they belong

Not to hide,  just a place to know where they can be found.

A savored memory to cherish when you're listening to the silence.

A treasured friendship that time sometimes passes by

But you know it's always stored in your heart.

A breeze that brings you the scent of rain ready to fall

Cooling the air and reminding you of the night

You danced outside as it fell.

Your first love and each one that followed.

The music that played as that love grew

Still makes you feel the excitement

With the lyrics etched in your mind.

The loss of someone that broke your heart

With words that should never been said.

You can't lose them because there's a place where they can be found.

A place where they belong

Not hidden and not forgotten.

A place to keep them and the lesson they taught.

A place to take you to find peace of mind

To renew your spirit and soothe the soul

A light to shine and show you the way

To keep the things that matter the most and to know where they can be found.

~~Echoes~~

The weekend passed slowly and quietly as they sometimes do.

I found myself lost in memories and longed for a time gone by.

I remembered an old suitcase that I had carried from one destination to the next.

As I, this gypsy woman moved from

situation to situation.

I sat alone in the large room with the high ceilings and wooden floors

that others had once called their home and now was mine.

I settled on the floor and unfastened the antique straps to see what lay inside.

There were no jewels and there were no coins

But the treasures began to unfold.

I discovered pieces of my childhood

as well as other cherished children

that my parents had loved.

I found tattered paper with the art of those children,

words they had innocently prosed.

Letters of love from my father to my mother,

Little handprints copied keeping us forever young.

I learned some of my sisters' loves as a child

and later as a woman wanting to come back home.

I was lonely that weekend and needed a good cry

to let me remember that I could still feel.

Away from my family and mourning the loss

of times we'd shared

disconnected and weary

I found a comfort and a sense of those memories coming alive.

I knew from the time I was a child

how blessed we were my family and I.

I knew the love I would forever carry and share.

I knew without words how deep that love ran.

But before I replaced the treasures I had found

I noticed an old wallet with something inside.

I removed the small clippings that were almost parched.

I found the tenderness my father had always

kept near to his heart.

Newspaper clippings with words from Browning.

I found assurance of his inward faith.

I found the love he gave to each of us

without saying a word

or putting pen to hand

I found my father was a poet

deep in his own thoughts

I cried those tears I needed to cry

not out of lonlieness or fear

but tears of pride

for that poet

that loving soul.

And although he's been gone from me for

a very long time

Those decades are echoes

that will keep his voice alive,

Without saying a word.
